When in stop and go traffic, and in a stopped position at the time the screen flash parking brake and the car was unable to move forward. Had to put the car in park, and back into drive before it was able to move. The other incident occurred when the vehicle was backing up, and the accelerator was being pushed the car slammed on the brakes and said parking brake again on the screen. The car does have rear collision warning, however it does not brake automatically. Incident is not able to be reproduced and was inspected by a Jeep dealership which found no issues. Car does not show any additional symptoms.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the transmission was skipping gears. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle decelerated unintendedly and failed to respond while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact attempted to resume normal driving, but the vehicle failed to respond while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was diagnosed by a nearby transmission mechanic, who determined that the transfer case had failed, and the failure was related to an unknown recall. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and several cases were opened. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

The engine completely failed causing me to have to pull over to the side of the road on a hill, luckly there was enough of a shoulder on the road to pull off safely and await a tow. Car would not start after the engine failed. Upon towing the car to a dealership I was informed that they found metal through the engine and it will require the engine to be replaced. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A failed PTU may result in a loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
Remedy: Dealers will update the Drivetrain Control Drivetrain Control Module, PTU, and Electronic Park Brake software, and replace the PTU, as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed June 25, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy becomes available. Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Jeep Cherokee vehicles. The power transfer unit (PTU) may become damaged and disengage the transmission and differential, resulting in a loss of drive power and/or loss of park function.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash. A loss of park function can cause an unintended vehicle rollaway, which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
