IVE TAKEN IT TO VALLEY HIGH HONDA 2DIFFERANT OCCASIONS. 2009, 2016 THE DEALER SAID THEY WONT FIX IT, I SHOULD GO TO PICK A PART. HONDA AMERICA ALSO TOLD ME THEY WONT FIX IT. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY! THE BAGS ARE NOT IN WORKING ORDER DUE TO THE LIGHT BEING ON AND WILL NOT DEPLOY IF INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT! I THOUGHT SAFETY WAS #1 PRIORITY FOR HONDA? I HAVE ALL MY DOCUMENTATION SHOWING MY MULTIPLE VISITS. MY WIFE AND CHILDREN TRAVEL IN THIS CAR DAILY. I WOULD LIKE SOME HELP FIXING THIS SO MY FAMILY WILL BE PROTECTED IF IN AN ACCIDENT.I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE BUT THE DEALER SAID ITS NOT COVERED. I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT AFTER RECEIVING AN AUTO AIRBAG SETTLEMENT CARD IN THE MAIL. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED FROM VALLEY HIGH HONDA IN 2007. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHILE I HAVE BEEN THE OWNER. I WAS TOLD IT WASNT IN ONE PRIOR TO MY PURCHASE. I WAS INFORMED BY THE SAME DEALER THAT THE INFLATOR WIRING WAS DAMAGED AND CAME DISCONNECTED FROM THE INFLATOR SWITCH AND THAT I WAS AT FAULT. ? I RECENTLY HAVE MOVED AND DONT HAVE ALL MY DOCUENTS READILY AVAILABLE, SO I HAVENT ATTACHED THEM YET. THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAD BEGAN COMING ON SHORTLY AFTER OR NEAR THE TIME OF MY PURCHASE OF THE CAR. I WILL SEND OR ATTACH MY LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION/DOCUMENTS AS SOON AS I CAN GET SETTLED AND LOCATE IT.

SINCE THE FIRST DAY DRIVING LESS THAN 10 MILES HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL, A C AND DRIVE TRAIN OR WHEEL PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TRANSFERRED.FROM A SANTA BARBARA CA DEALERSHIP TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP IN SAN LUIS OBISPO CA. THEY CALLED ME ON A SUNDAY TO SAY THE CAR WAS THERE IT WAS RAINING AND DARK. CAR HAD 400+ MILES ONE IT AND SAFETY CHECK HAD NOT BEEN DONE SINCE IT WAS ORIGINALLY RECEIVED WHEN IS WAS 0. ON THE 7TH OF A 10 MILE RIDE HOME THE WHOLE.ENTIRE DASHBOARD FIRST SIZZLED OUT LIKE AN OLD COMPUTER.MONITOR GOING BAD THEN.COMPLETELY WENT BLANK. I COULD NOT TELL HOW FAST I WAS GOING. AT THAT POINT I HAD NOT YET HOOKED UP MY PHONE.TO APPLE.PLAY WHICH IS A WHOLE NOTHER SOFTWARE ENDLESS.GLITCH BAG OF ISSUES. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT A YEAR. IT POPPED THE HOOD AND ALMOST BURNED MY HANDS ON THE HOOD ARM. THE DIGITAL DASH TURNS BLACK AT LEAST 2-3 TIMES A MONTH (NO MILES.PER HOUR, ETC). EVERY OTHER DAY MY IN DASH FACTORY SCREEN RADIO GOES BLACK. THE CAR UNLOCKS ITSELF OVERNIGHT EVERY FEW DAYS. MOST IF THIS INCREASES WITH FREQUENCY WHEN IT RAINS. AT LEAST ONE TIME A WEEK THE CAR WON'T UNLOCK BY TOUCH EVEN THO I HAVE THE KEY ON ME. SINCE DAY ONE THE CLIMATE CONTROL WILL RANDOMLY TURN ON FULL BLAST. SINCE DAY ONE RIGHT FRONT LOUD BEARING NOISE NEAR TIE ROD ARM AND LOUD KNOCK/BEARING/BUMP NOISR IN DRIVE TRAIN AREA; UNDER DASH AND IN AND INSIDE DOORS AND SUN ROOF RATTLE SO LOUD I HAVE TO TURN UP THE MUSIC NOT TO HEAR IT LIKE PARTS ARE LOOSE, AT 9 MONTHS HOT FULL BLAST 90+ DEGREE HEAT COMES ON WHEN THE A C IS TURNED ON (STUCK.IN HEAT MODE) EVENTUALLY AFTER BEING TURNED OFF WILL RESET ITSELF THEN WORK NORMAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED AGAIN 4 TINES IN THE PAST WEEK. SINCE DAY ONE TURN SIGNALS GET STUCK AND DON'T DISENGAGE UNLESS FORCIBLY FORCED. NO CLEAR COAT ON DOOR JAMS. HOOD, TRUNK AND DOORS HAVE UNEVEN GAPS/MISALIGNED.CRACKED LIGHTS

FOR EXAMPLE THE LIGHT INSIDE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VEHICLE WORKS WHENEVER IT FEELS LIKE WORKING. SECOND THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDOW MOTOR I ALREADY CHANGED IT 3 TIMES AND IT'S STILL GIVING ME TROUBLE. I ALREADY SPENT TOO MUCH MONEY I GAVE UP ON TRYING TO FIX IT. ALSO I ALREADY LOST COUNT ON HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE CHANGED MY BRAKES MINDING THAT I HARDLY DRIVE MY CAR. IN ADDITION MY GAS NEVER LAST EITHER NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF GAS I PUT. TRIED ALL OF THEM AND IT'S ALWAYS THE SAME. I BOUGHT MY VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY PROMISED ME I WOULD SPEND LESS GAS BUT THAT WAS NOT TRUE.

Aug 5, 2010

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2003 HONDA ACCORD, CIVIC TWO AND FOUR DOOR, AND MODEL YEAR 2003-2004 HONDA ELEMENT VEHICLES. THE INTERLOCK LEVER OF THE IGNITION SWITCH MAY UNEXPECTEDLY DEFORM, WHICH CAN ALLOW THE INTERLOCK FUNCTION OF A VEHICLE WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TO BE DEFEATED.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: REMOVAL OF THE IGNITION KEY WHEN THE GEAR SELECTOR OF A VEHICLE WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS NOT BEEN SHIFTED TO THE PARK POSITION CAN ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE ORIGINAL INTERLOCK PIN AND LEVER WITHIN THE IGNITION SWITCH, AND REPLACE THEM WITH NEW, DESIGNED COMPONENTS. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 7, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

02V120000 · Electrical System:ignition:switch

May 16, 2002

ON CERTAIN SEDANS, COUPES, HATCHBACKS, AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, ELECTRICAL CONTACTS IN THE IGNITION SWITCH CAN DEGRADE DUE TO THE HIGH ELECTRICAL CURRENT PASSING THROUGH THE SWITCH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: WORN CONTACTS COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JUNE 14, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009 OR ACURA AT 1-800-382-2238.

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical System:wiring:interior/under Dash; Exterior Lighting:headlights; Exterior Lighting:headlights:high/low Beam Dimmer Switch; Exterior Lighting:headlights:switch

This investigation was prompted by Preliminary Evaluation (PE) 11-017, and was based on reports from consumers alleging that both low beam headlights stopped illuminating simultaneously. Some complainants also reported that the combination switch (switch) that controls the headlights and turn signals, and/or its electrical wiring harness connector were damaged by overheating.ODI's PE information request letter asked Honda for certain data on model years (MY) 2002-2006 CR-V, 2003-2008 Pilot, 2003-2008 Element, 2001-2005 Civic, and 2000-2001 S 2000 vehicles.Analysis of complaint and Honda data show that a complete low beam headlight circuit failure occurs in models with 2-bulb headlight systems (i.e., a single bulb on each side for high and low beam).Models with 2-bulb systems include MY 2002-2004 CR-V, 2003-2005 Pilot, 2001-2003 Civic, and 2003-2008 Element.Models with 4-bulb headlight systems (i.e., two bulbs on each side, one for high and one for low beam) have different electrical circuits for the headlights and do not experience the same failure mechanism as the 2-bulb system.MY 2000-2001 S 2000 models with 2-bulb high intensity discharge headlights also have different electrical circuits for the headlights and do not experience the same failure mechanism.Honda introduced the 4-bulb headlight system in CR-V in MY 2005, in Pilot in MY 2006, and in Civic in MY 2004.On March 29, 2012 Honda submitted a defect information report (DIR) to recall 554,428 vehicles, including MY 2002-2004 CR-V and MY 2003 Pilot. In the DIR, Honda stated that tension from the combination switch wiring harness to the electrical terminal for the low beam headlight circuit could cause a small amount of motion as the combination switch was operated. This motion, over time, can wear the surface of the terminal creating copper oxide, increasing electrical resistance, which may cause the terminal to melt within the harness connector.ODI continued its investigation, and on August 31, 2012 Honda submitted another DIR to recall an additional 820,789 vehicles. This report included the MY 2002 Civic vehicles which were not subject to a prior safety recall (04V-086) for headlights, all of MY 2003 Civic, and MY 2004-2005 Pilot.Honda's DIR advised that operation of the turn signal switch lever at high speed and/or with heavy force can cause movement between the combination switch body and the sub-harness wiring connector. This can cause wear and continued movement can create copper oxide, increasing electrical resistance, and potentially causing the terminal to melt within the harness connector. Please see both DIRs at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/ under safety recall 12V-136 for complete details.Honda also provided additional information on the Element model, stating that it was not recalled due to it's very low failure rate.Honda sold 301,497 Element vehicles in the United States and received 17 reports, while ODI received one report (see VOQ 10395219).Honda's technical explanation for the low rate, which was submitted under request for confidentiality, is that the headlight switch, as installed in the Element, reacts differently to the forces applied to it as compared to the recalled models.See attachment for additional information.

(Honda) submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) to NHTSA regarding a ignition interlock defect in approximately 384,220 model year (MY) 2003 Honda Accord and Civic and MY 2003 and 2004 Honda Element vehicles with automatic transmissions (Recall 10V-364).In a September 22, 2010 supplemental DIR, Honda expanded the scope of the recall population based on manufacturing and complaint data. The total population for the complete recall is approximately 551,498 vehicles. The information listed in this closing report refers only to the subject vehicles, MY 2003 Accords with automatic transmissions.According to Honda's DIR, Under certain conditions the interlock lever of the ignition switch may unexpectedly deform, which can allow the interlock function of a vehicle with an automatic transmission to be defeated if the driver does not follow the typical shut-down procedure of shifting the gear selector to the Park position before rotating the ignition key to the off position. Removal of the ignition key when the gear selector of a vehicle with an automatic transmission has not been shifted to the Park position can allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.Honda's dealers will be instructed to inspect the ignition interlock switch and, if necessary, replace the original interlock pin and lever within the ignition switch and replace them with new, redesigned parts. This investigation is closed.
