TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FXDI MOTORCYCLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED A FUEL ODOR EMITTING FROM THE MOTORCYCLE. THE FUEL LEVEL LOWERED AND FUEL WAS LEAKING ONTO THE SPARK PLUG WIRES, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING OUT OF THE CHECK VALVE…

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FXDI MOTORCYCLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED A FUEL ODOR EMITTING FROM THE MOTORCYCLE. THE FUEL LEVEL LOWERED AND FUEL WAS LEAKING ONTO THE SPARK PLUG WIRES, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING OUT OF THE CHECK VALVE/ PIT COCK. THE FUEL SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,200.

05V430000 · Vehicle Speed Control:cables

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE THROTTLE CABLES COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE TUNNEL PORTION OF THE FUEL TANK.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: IN THIS CONDITION, THE CABLES COULD EVENTUALLY WEAR THROUGH THE TANK, CAUSING A FUEL LEAK. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE CABLE AND TANK, REPOSITION THE CABLE AND, IF NECESSARY, REPAIR OR REPLACE THE TANK AND/OR CABLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 31, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HARLEY-DAVIDSON AT 1-414-343-4056.
