2024 Jeep Wrangler

I started my Jeep in my driveway and a warning quickly flashed onto the center screen just before the Check Engine Light illuminated. I attempted to test drive it. The vehicle started cutting out before the engine started racing. I was able to stop at the end of my street. I made a U-Turn to return to my home and the Jeep started bucking and jerking wildly as I was attempting to stop in front of my house. It was at that time it stopped running and locked itself in PARK. I called a tow to the dealer. The tow driver was also unable to move the vehicle as it was still locked in PARK. He was able to drag it onto the flatbed. Upon inspection at the dealer, they stated that the hybrid battery had failed and needs to be replaced. This was a dangerous enough situation but had this of happened in traffic or worse yet on the highway, it would have made for a much more dangerous situation where someone could have been killed. This is not the first time I've had drivability and loss of motive power issues with this vehicle. The last time a few months ago I brought it to the dealer's attention and explained the problem and the danger. The dealer advised me that the software after the 68C Recall will reduce power to protect the hybrid battery. It seems that Jeep is trying to save money rather than do the right thing and buy back these dangerous vehicles. Jeep customer service basically told me that it's my problem. I just want the Jeep fixed or bought back. It is not a safe vehicle to drive without fear of being smashed into from the rear. The Jeep is currently at the dealer waiting for a replacement hybrid battery. It is my understanding that the replacement battery will be the exact same as the defective one and runs the same chance of being defective and dangerous. How is this even allowed to happen?

* See list below for specifics - yes vehicle is available at mechanics location * 6 lane intersection - vehicle and myself were in center lane blocking traffic - made 911 call requesting officer since I was blocking traffic * See below for detailed description * No at this particular time, it is at the mechanic's shop for further investigation - shop was closed by the time the tow truck carried the jeep to the drop off location * See below for detailed description Within the last week the jeep turned off on its own while sitting with the engine running in a parking spot, it also automatically slowed down to less than 25 mph unable to give it gas and then a warning came on about the sway bar being disconnected, the check engine light came on for a few days then turned off by it self, the last incident some of the following warning lights came on before the jeep came to a stop on it's own while traveling approx 45 mph on a 6 lane street - serv 4wd, auto emergency braking unavailable, sway bar!, service electronic stability control, sway bar disconnect unavailable, forward collision warning off, adaptive cruise control fault, and as the jeep cut off the warning light for the plug status fault warning came on. The vehicle has been towed to a mechanic and they will let me know the status of the jeep once they have checked it out.

I am reporting a serious safety concern with my 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe, VIN [XXX] . The apparent systems involved are the hybrid propulsion system, charging/high-voltage battery system, powertrain control system, and/or regenerative braking/deceleration system. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. After prior battery/charging-related issues and recent Jeep recall service, the vehicle displayed a “Service Charging System” warning and the check-engine light came on. While driving home, the vehicle did not decelerate normally when I removed my foot from the accelerator. It felt like the Jeep continued propelling itself or maintaining speed without accelerator input. I drove approximately one mile down my street at about 40 mph, and the vehicle did not slow down as expected unless I applied the brakes firmly. I had to brake harder than normal to slow the vehicle. This created a serious safety risk because the vehicle appeared to continue moving at speed without normal deceleration, which could have caused a crash or prevented me from stopping in time. After the incident, the vehicle also turn off. It took multiple tries and about 20 minutes to turn off. The “Service Charging System” message and check-engine light remained on. The problem has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center, but I am arranging for the vehicle to be towed/inspected and do not intend to drive it due to the safety concern. The vehicle was recently inspected/serviced by a Jeep dealer for recall-related work before this incident. I am requesting that the dealer/manufacturer inspect the vehicle and preserve all DTCs, freeze-frame data, module update records, HV battery/charging diagnostics, and any available accelerator/brake/propulsion data. Yesterday evening we were driving and the orange check engine light came on. Followed by a red battery light, the red turtle and an exclamation point with a car and a speedometer symbol. It would not let me switch to electric e-save and kept me in hybrid mode. Regenerative braking would not work either. Once safely parked it was making a loud high pitched whining noise. It would also drop RPMs while idling and then they would rev up quickly. Once the tow truck arrived he tried to drive it up on the flat bed but it had no power to make it up the ramp and had to be pulled with the tow cable up the ramp. Another thing I have noticed as of the last 68c update is that when in electric mode and merging onto a freeway for example, it gets really sluggish at about 65mph and the gas engine won't kick in like it used to before the update. It doesn't go above 65 and slows down to about 62 even if my foot is pedal to the floor before ice kicks in. Makes it pretty dangerous to be merging with traffic going 70+.

With the recent completion of recalls 68&78c , and a new HV battery, APPEARS TO ME, thatJeep has changed the software for the throttle response when in electric mode. The result creates a safety hazard as you lose pedal response and power when the battery reaches below 35% or about 9 miles remaining. On the highway the jeep loses all power and will not accelerate over 62 mph. And the same around town when you need that extra umph, the pedal becomes dead. More Scary when you’re on the highway!! The result? Since the electric power output is unavailable, you have to mash the pedal to the flow to kick it out of electric mode. But this is also unsafe as now you start the engine (often cold as I was running electric mode) and you smash the rpm’s over 6k to launch the gas engine (That can’t be good for the engine long term) . Before battery replacement and recall software updates, this process was very smooth and occurred with 5% or less battery life. This had occurred a few times and could probably reproduce it when this scenario is present

On April 17th 2024 my vehicle received a recall update 68C regarding the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle battery. Two days later, I was driving on a major freeway in Southern California, noticed that the EV battery was not being depleted as it remained at 100%. Shortly thereafter, a check engine light came on, and the power was severely restricted. Within a few minutes, the vehicle completely lost power in the middle of the freeway and I was able to get over to the right shoulder. At this point, the vehicle had no power and I could not turn the vehicle off either regarding the electronics. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership in San Diego, and by the time it was at the dealership, the vehicle was in full lockout mode and had zero battery power left and could not even lock the doors. This caused a significant safety hazard as I was with my [XXX] child and the vehicle just completely lost power on the freeway. The vehicle is now at the dealership and they are giving me a very hard time saying that there is nothing wrong with it, but I have read that there have been many problems with this recall update. The dealership told me that the problem was a bad 12 V battery and that I needed to pay to replace that and I argued with them that that was not the problem and they are not addressing the major issue with a complete power loss on the freeway after a required software update that has known problems. While driving approximately 35 MPH on a 4 lane major roadway, the vehicle suddenly shut off in motion, resulting in a complete loss of power. This included loss of power steering and the ABS system. The vehicle effectively locked up, and a message appeared on the display instructing me to place the vehicle in park. As a result of the shutdown, the vehicle lost all propulsion and came to a complete stop in an active travel lane of a high-speed roadway. There was no ability to maneuver the vehicle out of traffic. I could not steer it to safety, restart it, or shift it into neutral. The vehicle was fully immobilized in the roadway. This left me and my family stopped in an active lane of traffic, exposed to oncoming vehicles traveling at highway speeds, creating an immediate and serious risk of collision. At the time of the incident, I had two children in the vehicle. We remained in this dangerous position until police arrived and an hour after. The vehicle ultimately had to be removed from the roadway with assistance, as it was not operable. During the event, there was a total loss of electrical power. The critical safety systems, including brake lights, were not functioning during the shutdown. After attempting to reset the battery, the vehicle continued to malfunction. It would not properly turn on or off, wouldn't shift into neutral and remained unable to be moved. This is the third occurrence of this; once was while driving at highway speeds. All warning lights, including the battery light, were illuminated. The vehicle is subject to an active recall; however, I have been informed that there is currently no available remedy . Despite this, the dealership and Stellantis advised that the vehicle was safe to operate. Given the repeated loss of power while driving, the inability to move the vehicle out of an active roadway, and the absence of an available repair, this vehicle presents a serious safety risk and I should be able to turn this vehicle in with refund.

Vehicle shut off while driving. Luckily we were in right lane and we just drifted into breakdown lane with no power steering or power braking. These cars are unsafe 2500-4000 lb missiles going down the roadway and the government is continuing to allow them on the roadway with serious life jeopardizing known defects. The dealers point at Jeep, Jeep points to dealers, both point to Stelantis and it an endless run around. All we want is out of the lease and nobody will help. We can’t drive the car as it’s unsafe. Our dealer is trying to help and gave us a loaner car (of much less value) but we are paying a lease on a much higher cost car while driving a low value loaner, meanwhile Stelantis just ignores the request to be let out of the lease without paying the full lease value on turn in. That’s over $13,000 if we turn it in now. Stelantis says work with your dealer. The dealer says we can’t do anything until they come out with a fix. We just want out of the lease. These cars are unsafe, by their own admission, and should not be on the roadways.
