2019 Jeep Cherokee

The rear differential went out on it on Nov 27th, I had it towed back to the dealer and they kept it until Jan 5th and said they had fixed it. I have a hand written receipt from them but it's not very detailed. It does seem better but I can still hear a small noise that concerns me because it sounds and feels just like it did before. I just started financing this vehicle so im not sure what to do and I cant get any help with it. Its scary to drive sometimes but it's my only transportation and I have 3 small children. The check engine light is on but it didn't come up until after they worked on it the first time.

Newnan Peachtree Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram: The dealership initially identified the recall-related failure but subsequently "deleted operations" from my service record. They replaced these with different labor codes and "tag numbers" to misclassify the repair. By deleting the recall codes, the dealer successfully billed my third-party extended warranty for a transmission replacement. This allowed the dealer to collect a higher labor rate while unnecessarily depleting my private warranty’s limit of liability. The dealer failed to address the root cause (the Power Transfer Unit/PTU). My vehicle was returned to me still exhibiting grinding noises, which is a known precursor to sudden power loss on the highway. During the unauthorized warranty work and a concurrent oil change, the engine oil cooler was damaged. Furthermore, the dealership failed to perform a mandatory cooling line flush, causing metallic debris to contaminate new components.

It has been over a year since I got my notice of recall. Still no fix for this according to the dealer. It is completely unacceptable that I have a vehicle that is not really usable without risk while they sit around and dont get a fix. It can not be that complicated. Replace the ptu if they have to. I know it sucks but if its a safety thing then it needs to be done.

It has now been more than a year since the recall was issued, and Stellantis still has not provided a remedy for my vehicle. My servicing dealer, Carson Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Carson City, Nevada, reports that no parts are available for the recall and that Stellantis has not provided any timeline for when parts or the required software remedy will be released. This recall involves a safety‑related defect in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) that can cause loss of drive power or loss of Park function. Despite the severity of the defect, Stellantis continues to delay both the software remedy and the availability of replacement PTU components. I am unable to obtain the required repair, and the manufacturer has not met the federal requirement to provide a timely remedy. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate Stellantis for an unreasonable delay in providing recall repairs for Recall 01C and require the manufacturer to supply the remedy without further delay. My vehicle has now been held at an authorized dealership since February 2025 due to the lack of an available remedy. Since the original recall notice, I have contacted both the dealership and the Stellantis recall hotline multiple times. Each time, I am given a new projected month for the remedy to become available. In October I was told November, in November I was told December, and now in December I am being told January. This cycle continues with no definitive solution, effectively leaving me without access to my vehicle for nearly a year. I am also concerned about the extended period of inactivity and the resulting potential for component degradation, including leaky seals, warped rotors, electrical issues, and tire damage. The service department assured me this would not be a concern, but I disagree and believe the prolonged storage may create additional safety issues or repair needs. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in reviewing this matter, as the lack of remedy and extended vehicle hold time appears unreasonable and may represent a failure in recall execution. The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while attempting to use the 4WD feature, the message “Service 4WD” was displayed, with an audible chime. The failure caused the vehicle to slide while driving in the snow. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure. The vehicle was not repaired due to the part not being approved or provided. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 89,773.
