THEN, IN SEPTEMBER 2019, IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS BECAUSE I WAS DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE. I WAS STILL APPROXIMATELY 500 MILES FROM MY NEXT OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ISSUE OF MY CAR STOPPING IN TRAFFIC WAS DUE TO "DIRTY OIL." IN DECEMBER 2019, THIS HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. I AM STILL 1745 MILES AWAY FROM MY NEXT OIL CHANGE. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THAT THEY NEEDED TO CHANGE THE OIL IN ORDER TO DO AN OIL PRESSURE TEST. I ASKED THEM TO FIX THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM BECAUSE MY CAR IS STOPPING REPEATEDLY AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN MY VEHICLE. IT IS A HAZARD TO MYSELF AND OTHERS AS I LIVE IN A DENSELY POPULATED AREA. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A failed PTU may result in a loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
Remedy: Dealers will update the Drivetrain Control Drivetrain Control Module, PTU, and Electronic Park Brake software, and replace the PTU, as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed June 25, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy becomes available.
