2016 HYUNDAI TUCSON REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. THIS HAPPENED JANUARY 2021. I WAS WAITING FOR THE ENTIRE FIRE RECALL TO COME UP WITH A FIX SO I COULD TAKE IT IN AT THE SAME TIME. NOW, THE FRONT DRIVER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE, ONLY THE INSIDE. HYUNDAI IS SAYING IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND I WILL NEED TO PAY FOR BOTH. QUICK RESEARCH ONLINE SHOWS ME THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ALSO EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE EVALUATED AS IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF MY CAR CATCHES FIRE BEFORE THERE CAN BE A FIX FOR THE RECALL AND MYSELF OR MY PASSENGERS ARE UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IF IT IS ON FIRE.

I PURCHASED 2017 TUCSON BRAND NEW AT ROUGHLY 22K MY ENGINE SEIZED AND THE 3RD CONNECTING ROD FAILED. AFTER ENGINE REPLACEMENT I CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH REAR DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY GOING OUT, BULB IS NOT OUT BUT WIRING SCORCHED AND BULB SOMEHOW CONTINUOUSLY BECOMES LOOSE. I HAVE REPLACED FRONT HEADLIGHTS REPEATEDLY WITH THE DRIVER FRONT SHATTERING IN HOUSING. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED CALIPERS AND HAVE GONE THROUGH 7 SETS OF ROTORS. AT ROUGHLY 60000 I NOTICED I WAS RUNNING OUT OF OIL IN BETWEEN EVERY 3000 MILE OIL CHANGE. CONTINUED TO BRING BACK TO DEALER FOR REPAIR S . I HAVE COMPLAINED MULTIPLE TIMES ABOUT HESITATION WHEN PULLING OUT FROM STOP AND ENGINE KNOCKING. MULTIPLE OIL PAN RESEAL GASKETS REPLACED FUEL PUMP REPLACED, OIL ALWAYS ALL OVER ENGINE. AT 110K MY ENGINE FAILED A SECOND TIME WITH HYUNDAI DENYING ALL CLAIMS. ORIGINALLY SAID THEY WOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR RENTAL BUT WHEN THEY EMAILED ME LETTER FOR 'GOODWILL ' REIMBURSEMENT IT WAS A RELEASE FROM LIABILITY WAIVER IF I TOOK THEIR 'GOODWILL ' . I HAVE INFORMED THEM OF ELECTRIC ISSUES AND HOW I FEEL UNSAFE WITH NEW RECALL AND FIRE POSSIBILITY AND THEY INFORMED ME AS LONG AS NO WARNING LIGHT IS ON IT SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE. I TRIED TO TRADE VEHICLE IN AND NO ONE WOULD TAKE MY TRADE, IT'S 3 YEARS OLD AND WORTH NOTHING. HYUNDAI RESPONSE WAS VEHICLES DON'T HOLD THEIR VALUE LIKE THEY USED TO. I AM DISGUSTED WITH THEIR DISMISSIVE CUSTOMER CARE, 2 ENGINES IN A VEHICLE 3 YEARS OLD AND THEY INSIST THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THEIR PRODUCT.

THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS IN MY 2016 HYUNDAI TUCSON FAILED REPEATEDLY. THE FIRST WAS ON NOVEMBER 3, 2020, ONE WEEK OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY. THE SECOND DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR FAILED TODAY (FEB 5, 2021). THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE AS THE DOORS CANNOT BE OPENED FROM EITHER THE INSIDE OR OUT BECAUSE THEY FAIL IN THE "LOCKED" POSITION. IF THERE WERE A FIRE OR OTHER ACCIDENT, THE OCCUPANTS WOULD BE TRAPPED INSIDE, RESULTING IN A FATALITY. THE LATCH MECHANISM WON'T UNLOCK FROM EITHER THE PHYSICAL MECHANICAL TOGGLE OR REMOTE SIGNAL. THIS OCCURS THEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN DISCUSSED ON NUMEROUS ONLINE HYUNDAI FORUMS. WE ARE ALL WONDERING WHY 1) HYUNDAI HAS NOT ISSUED A SAFETY RECALL 2) WHY THE NHTSA HAS NOT STEPPED IN AND REQUIRED HYUNDAI TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL. NOT BEING ABLE TO EXIT OR ENTER A CAR DURING AN EMERGENCY IS A HUGE RISK TO ALL, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN, THE ELDERLY, AND HANDICAPPED PERSONS. I CAN'T THINK OF A GREATER SAFETY ISSUE THAN BEING TRAPPED IN YOUR VEHICLE. PLEASE INTERVENE! THANK YOU. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition.
