2024 Hyundai Palisade

While crossing a railroad track, the vehicle in front of me slowed down. I applied the brakes but there was no response. I pushed even harder with excessive force and the brakes did not respond at all. I though for sure I was going to hit the vehicle in front of me when the brakes finally responded. I was traveling at about 20 miles an hour when this incident began. I know there is a recall related to the ABS brakes where a software update is intended. That recall does not indicate a safety hazard. This recall seems related since it appeared to me to be an ABS braking problem. I can tell you that it is certainly a high safety risk. My local dealer can not get me in to address the recalls for another 6 weeks and I'm concerned this may happen again. This needs to be considered a significant safety risk before serious injuries occur. I currently have 20,000 miles on this vehicle. The driving conditions at the time of the incident were dry roads surface, sunny and about 72 degrees F. About 4pm on 6-24-26.

While driving the 2024 Hyundai Palisade, the steering wheel suddenly locks up, resulting in an immediate loss of steering control creating an immediate safety hazard. The steering wheel becomes completely rigid, making it impossible to turn left or right. This condition feels as though the power steering system has completely stopped working. Simultaneously, multiple warning lights appear on the dashboard. To avoid an accident, the driver must physically muscle the rigid steering wheel to force the vehicle onto the right-side shoulder of the road. Once safely stopped, turning the engine completely off and restarting it seems to temporarily resolve the problem. After the re-start, the warning lights disappear, and the steering wheel operates normally again. This problem (loss of steering wheel control) has occurred 5 times randomly and intermittently (each time while driving). The first 2 times this problem occurred was in September 2024 and it was taken to a Hyundai dealership and the problem was reported (repair #1 dated 9/30/2024, mileage 13603). Next, the vehicle was in the dealership for repair of the Forward Collison Light / Low Battery (repair #2 dated 11/22/2024, mileage 14899). Next, the vehicle was in the dealership for replacement of the Front Radar Sensor (repair #3 dated 12/05/2024, mileage 15353). Next the vehicle's steering wheel locked up on 9/18/2025, mileage 24370 (3rd time). Next the vehicle's steering wheel locked up on 5/24/2026, mileage 31714 (4th time). Next the vehicle was in the dealership for regular maintenance and to investigate the steering wheel lock up that occurred on 5/24/2026 (repair #4 dated 5/27/2026, mileage 31798). Next the vehicle's steering wheel locked up on 6/04/026, mileage 31946 (5th time). Next the vehicle was in the dealership to replace the steering column control module or power pack electric (repair #5 dated 6/04/2026, mileage 31985).

I am writing to report a serious safety defect regarding my 2024 Hyundai Palisade. While driving at approximately 6 mph, the vehicle went over a bump in the road. Immediately after hitting this bump, the vehicle began violently shaking and steering out of control. This shaking did not stop or diminish on its own. I immediately attempted to apply the brakes, but the brake pedal became extremely hard to press, requiring significant physical effort to slow down. The violent shaking only ceased once I managed to bring the vehicle to a complete stop.This condition represents a severe, immediate safety hazard. I frequently have my children in the car and use this vehicle for work travel, which requires utilizing highways with speeds greater than 60 mph multiple days of the week. This failure caused a sudden loss of vehicle control and a compromised braking system. I am terrified of the catastrophic consequences if this violent shaking and brake failure happen again at highway speeds with my children inside.Component / System Failure:UNKNOWN. The exact mechanical or electronic system that malfunctioned is currently unknown. The vehicle is parked and is available for inspection upon request.Warning Lamps / Prior Symptoms:There were no warning lamps, error messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. It occurred suddenly and without warning.Testing / Inspection Status:The problem has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by an independent service center, nor has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. The incident occurred over the weekend, and I am taking the vehicle directly to the Hyundai dealership for a full safety check on Monday morning as soon as they open.

I have had an open recall for recall 283 now for the almost full year I have owned this vehicle. I am unable to use the outside seats in fear of seatbelt failure for my two children. The fact that there has been a back order on this lifesaving component is unacceptable. I am paying for something that may not be safe and that is not okay.

We were traveling on XXX near XXX at 60 MPH (Speed Limit 70 MPH but it was raining). The vehicle in front of us abruptly stopped due to a rear crash causing the chain of vehicles behind to brake suddenly. I had to hard brake - the emergency collision warning turned on but at the same time - the 2nd row driver side passenger's seat belt automatically released putting the occupant in danger. On 2 separate occasions, under similar circumstances, the collision warning systems, both front and rear, applied the brakes for no reason. When reversing slowly (foot slowly off brake pedal) from a parking space on an almost empty rooftop parking lot; I confirmed there was no foot traffic or moving vehicles before I started to back up. The brakes automatically applied (no screen display); I reapplied the brake and was then able to reverse normally. On a normal service visit to my dealership, I mentioned the incident and it was noted on my invoice. About 3 weeks later, at a full stop at a stop sign, I was about to turn left onto another road. After confirming there was no cross traffic of any kind, and before I had completely released the brake, the collision assist engaged and suddenly applied the brakes (again with no screen display but an audible thump). Again, I was able to reapply the brake and then accelerate to make the turn. Since the same event had happened twice, I went directly to my local Hyundai Service Center and reported it. They kept the vehicle for a week and tested it thoroughly. Nothing showed as being faulty. When I picked up my vehicle on 5/22/26, they informed me that there's a known issue (NHTSA Campaign # 26V316) with other Hyundai models (not the Palisade) and that an update for the forward collision avoidance system in those models will be coming mid-summer. As the Palisade is not included in the Campaign list of makes/models, but has the exact same event/problem, I wanted to report this for inclusion in the safety recall. I was not injured in either event but anyone with this issue could potentially be at risk in the future.
