These two failure types for 4 incidents may involve 3 components or 1 or 2 of the ADAS; Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking (Certainly,) and Forward Collision Warning: The first incident was at town speed when a vehicle to the immediate front right slowed to depart the turn land into a driveway, and my vehicle slowed abruptly, although the other was not in my path. A subsequent time, mine abruptly slowed under similar conditions and displayed the red imminent crash warning. A third time, it slowed abruptly on the freeway when a vehicle to the right front slowed. The fourth failure was on [XXX], headed [XXX] toward Fremont, when the vehicle, without any warning or signal on the screen, braked abruptly when I was in the express lane and traveling between 65 and 70 mph. The trucklet braked precipitously, and I quickly pulled past some pylons into a construction shoulder area to avoid a chain reaction collision! In a couple minutes it seemed to indicate things were normal, and I waited some minutes until I could re-enter the freeway from the left into the high speed express lane (!) and have been able to drive the next couple hundred miles without these jarring sorts of malfunctions. These constitute 4 separate incidents, three of which could have precipitated accidents. Who knows what's next? I have a service appointment for tomorrow morning to have the dealer's service department look at the issues I'm reporting. [XXX] [XXX] (land line). Vehicle Speed Control
There is NO "rubber" pedal on the gas pedal. Foot easily slips off "metal" pedal whether shoe is dry, wet, muddy snow encased, etc. Unable to maintain positive pressure on gas pedal as shoe/foot easily slips off. On [XXX], I was traveling from Georgia to California in a 2024 Ford Maverick XLT 2.5L Hybrid with approximately 219 miles on the odometer, using cruise control set at 73 mph and in the ECO mode. I'd stopped for gas and upon returning to the highway [XXX]) the vehicle, still using cruise and in ECO mode, experienced an extreme reduction in power and the check engine light illuminated. I pulled over to the shoulder and shut down the engine; restarted the engine and tried to resume driving while changing to normal mode and not using cruise control. The check engine lights was still illuminated and the vehicle would not accelerate and could only travel at about 30 mph. Pulled off the highway at the next exit and had the vehicle towed to a Ford dealership in Birmingham AL. At the dealership, I informed the service advisor about the check engine light and that the Ford app indicated a problem with the high voltage battery coolant pump. During the initial troubleshoot, the mechanic relayed to me the following three potential faults: the high voltage battery cooling pump, a pump in the transmission, and a fault with the battery electronic control module (BECM). The two pumps were replaced and the BECM fault cleared, see attached service invoice. I picked up the vehicle on [XXX] and drove back to Georgia without issue. The odometer currently indicates 869 miles with no issues. Since the vehicle had limited power and was unable to accelerate, especially on an interstate, I consider this type of failure a safety issue. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Maverick Hybrid and 2020 Escape Hybrid vehicles. The Hybrid Powertrain Control Module (HPCM) software may cause the vehicle to shift into neutral unexpectedly, causing a loss of drive power.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the HPCM software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 12, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S33. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning January 15, 2026. This is an expansion of Recalls 24V330 (24S33) and 25V133 (25S16).

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received a petition on July 20, 2026, which was dated July 7, 2026, requesting a defect investigation into the intermittent loss of braking on Model Year (MY) 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid vehicles. The petition alleges intermittent loss of antilock and regenerative braking associated with certain fault codes that led to a collision event. The petitioner highlights that the condition persisted through four repair attempts and over 50 days out of service. Furthermore, the petition alleges that MY 2024 was improperly excluded from related Ford brake-control software recalls.
