My 2019 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost with the 10-speed 10R80 transmission has developed severe shifting and acceleration problems that create a safety risk. The transmission frequently appears to skip 2nd gear and bangs very hard into 3rd. This 1st-to-3rd harsh shift is persistent and does not go away after the truck warms up. I also experience delayed shifts including 3rd-4th, 6th-7th, 8th-9th and sometimes 9th-10th. Downshifts into 4th can also cause a hard bang. More concerning, the truck intermittently hesitates and loses forward momentum when accelerating. This happens with light, moderate or heavy throttle. It commonly occurs during the first 3-4 miles but can happen with a cold or warm start. It can also return after the truck has been driven, parked briefly, and restarted. This creates a serious crash risk when I pull onto a main road or merge onto a highway. After I commit to entering traffic, the truck can hesitate and lose momentum instead of accelerating. I must wait for an unusually large gap in traffic because I cannot predict whether the truck will accelerate normally. I regularly have my two young children in the vehicle and no longer feel safe driving it. There are no warning lights. An independent mechanic found the transmission fluid low and topped it off. The PCM/TCM programming was also updated. Neither corrected the problem. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by Ford for this condition and is available for inspection. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this as a potential safety defect because the unpredictable loss of acceleration while entering or merging with moving traffic creates a risk of collision. The hesitation can occur without warning after I have already entered moving traffic, leaving little opportunity to avoid an approaching vehicle. I believe the unpredictable loss of acceleration creates an immediate risk of a side-impact or rear-end collision.

Transmission at high speed acts very erratic, when downshifting is like it doesn't know what do do and when it finally decides to down shift, it kicks so hard that feels like it's going to brake in pieces, even at low speed the shifting is very hard, not smooth at all. radio carplay is useless, every time i try carplay, it works but i am not able to use the volume, so i have the feature but can't use it

I took the vehicle in for maintenance -transmission flush, oil change, anything they could find because I was planning on a road trip and wanted it ready. They found the box frame just behind the front tires had completely rusted with large holes. The service tech did not even want to put the vehicle on the lift. They took some pictures and sent them to me. No maintenance was performed due to the severity of the rot. After inspection, no where else on the frame or body/fixtures is there rust like this. There is typical surface rust in usual places. I took multiple pictures of the problem areas as well as adjacent areas. Upon research I found that the 2015-2020 models have this issue due to the lack of weep holes in the box frame which accumulate moisture and rot from the inside out. The truck is a 2019 has 71k miles. I have owned ford trucks for nearly the last 30 years and have never had this issue. Unfortunately the tech said it is not road safe given its condition.

After a recall repair was performed on my vehicle at Central Ford on 3/5/2026, the check engine light came on right afterward. Since that time, I have returned the vehicle to the dealership for repair on three separate occasions. My vehicle is still at the dealer now. The dealership has had my vehicle for a total of approximately seven weeks across these visits. Despite multiple repair attempts, the issue has not been resolved, and the check engine light remains on and continues to return the same day the dealer claims it has been fixed. The dealership has been unable to provide a permanent fix or clear explanation for the ongoing problem. I am concerned that the recall repair was either performed improperly or has resulted in a new defect affecting the vehicle’s reliability and potentially its safety. At this point, my vehicle remains unreliable and may not be safe to operate. I am requesting that this issue be investigated, as the recall remedy appears to be ineffective in my case. Repair history and documentation are available upon request.

Opened Jan 27, 2023 · Closed Feb 8, 2024
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Structure:body:roof And Pillars
On January 27, 2023, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE23-001 to investigate allegations of A-pillar trim panel detachment on model year (MY) 2011-2019 Ford Explorer vehicles. At the time of opening, the office had received 164 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) reporting this failure. ODI has received 671 VOQs regarding this failure, including 1 alleged crash and 2 alleged injuries. Some consumers have reported that the failure occurred while they were driving at highway speeds, with the detached trim panel entering the path of travel of the vehicle behind them, requiring the driver of the following vehicle to take evasive action. It is noteworthy that motorists who experience this type of road hazard are less likely to accurately identify the subject vehicle the item detached from and report the event to the NHTSA. In its April 17, 2023 response to ODI’s information request, Ford provided 175 consumer complaints (including field reports) and 14,162 warranty claims related to A-pillar trim panel detachment. Ford relayed that the subject vehicles utilize a plastic A-pillar bracket, which is bolted to the vehicle structure during assembly. The A-pillar trim panel is attached to the bracket utilizing 7 plastic clips. Contributory factors which have been identified by Ford as leading to the subject defect include incomplete installation at the assembly plant, inadequate part stack up, damage to fasteners during installation, and failure to follow proper repair procedure during windshield replacements or other services. On January 19, 2024, Ford filed safety recall 24V-031 for MY 2011-2019 Ford Explorer vehicles to address the subject defect. In the Part 573 Safety Recall Report, Ford identified that a detached A-pillar trim panel can create a road hazard for other road users, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall remedy includes an inspection of the existing A-pillar trim panel and, if necessary, the replacement of the component. The remedy A-pillar trim panels will be installed with an additional adhesive for robustness and utilize an inspection procedure to ensure full engagement of all the retention clips during installation. In view of the recall action being taken by Ford, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
