I reported transmission issue to my dealer years ago. It started when I would start the truck in the morning and put it in reverse. It would do nothing than al of a sudden lunge in reverse. Than it would clear up and not do it for several months. I pretty much got the blow off from the dealer. Cold Oil, linkage sticking bs. Of course, now it’s out of warranty. The transmission shifts hard and even slips out of gear. It stalled tonight at a stop light because it banged into gear. I have less than a hundred thousand miles on this truck. It’s not even safe to drive down the road. You never know when it’s going to shift out of gear . Or lunge forward when it shifts into the next gear.

We were about 75 miles from the destination when going down hill the transmission would not shift to the lower gear until we were going to fast and then it would down sift very hard. While going up a hill it would down shift ok but as we got up to speed the transmission would not shift up but stay in the lower gear. Finally at very high RPM it would shift up to the higher gear with a very loud clunk. As soon as we got to our destination we took it to a ford dealer and they said we were lucky because the transmission was on verge of failing completely. Ford has a 60k power train warranty and they said even though it was less than 60K miles my warranty ran out of time 6 weeks ago. If the transmission had failed completely, the car could have had a major safety issue with the trailer behind us. We were not pulling weight more than rated but going up the mountains and the down with only brakes would have been very dangerous. I read that many ford owners are having problems with their 10R80 ten speed transmission in the larger heavy vehicles such as Expedition or F150. Ford Authority reported expeditions pulling trailers have the 10R80 transmission failing after 30K miles.

My car is suppose to take unleaded gas or higher and it knocks if I use unloaded. Now my catalytic converter is going out and it is not covered under warranty unless it is consequential to other problems. Well there appears to be engine problems that are not being addressed and I have a warranty and have taken it in. But they do not look any deeper into the problem except for computer scan and the warranty people won’t give me any answers on what they will do if there is engine problems.

San alarm went off in the dash indicating an imminent crash causing my wife to almost lose control of the vehicle. There was no vehicle in front of us and none in the opposing lane or behind us to trigger this response. My wife speculated maybe a bird flew across in front of us but I dodn,t see that. it was very alarming and almost caused her to lose control of the vehicle. I had this happen to me driving alone at about 40 mph. The only difference , there was a vehicle in front of m E but I was not close enough to trigger this safety alarm. The vehicle in front of me was not stopped and I was not close enough to trigger this response. I was at least4 or 5 car lengths away doing 40 mph. and they were traveling about the same speed. PE23001 · Windshield Trim Molding Item Detachment

Opened Jan 27, 2023 · Closed Feb 8, 2024

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Structure:body:roof And Pillars

On January 27, 2023, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE23-001 to investigate allegations of A-pillar trim panel detachment on model year (MY) 2011-2019 Ford Explorer vehicles. At the time of opening, the office had received 164 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) reporting this failure. ODI has received 671 VOQs regarding this failure, including 1 alleged crash and 2 alleged injuries. Some consumers have reported that the failure occurred while they were driving at highway speeds, with the detached trim panel entering the path of travel of the vehicle behind them, requiring the driver of the following vehicle to take evasive action. It is noteworthy that motorists who experience this type of road hazard are less likely to accurately identify the subject vehicle the item detached from and report the event to the NHTSA. In its April 17, 2023 response to ODI’s information request, Ford provided 175 consumer complaints (including field reports) and 14,162 warranty claims related to A-pillar trim panel detachment. Ford relayed that the subject vehicles utilize a plastic A-pillar bracket, which is bolted to the vehicle structure during assembly. The A-pillar trim panel is attached to the bracket utilizing 7 plastic clips. Contributory factors which have been identified by Ford as leading to the subject defect include incomplete installation at the assembly plant, inadequate part stack up, damage to fasteners during installation, and failure to follow proper repair procedure during windshield replacements or other services. On January 19, 2024, Ford filed safety recall 24V-031 for MY 2011-2019 Ford Explorer vehicles to address the subject defect. In the Part 573 Safety Recall Report, Ford identified that a detached A-pillar trim panel can create a road hazard for other road users, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall remedy includes an inspection of the existing A-pillar trim panel and, if necessary, the replacement of the component. The remedy A-pillar trim panels will be installed with an additional adhesive for robustness and utilize an inspection procedure to ensure full engagement of all the retention clips during installation. In view of the recall action being taken by Ford, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
