THE COMPUTER REGISTERED NO ERRORS AND I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *TR

SAT IN DRIVEWAY AND WATCHED THIS "LINE" GO FROM BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD UP AND TO THE PASSENGER SIDE. NOTHING HIT MY CAR AND THIS "LINE" CAME UP FROM BENEATH THE RUBBER SEAL ON THE WINDSHIELD. CALLED THE SALESMAN THE FOLLOWIING MONDAY AND WAS TOLD NOT COVERED UNDER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. MY EDGE IS ONLY 2 MONTHS OLD!!! SALESMAN SAID HE WOULD CALL ME BACK - NEVER DID. I HAVE ALWAYS BOUGHT FORD VEHICLES BRAND NEW. MY LAST BRAND NEW VEHICLE, 03 EXPLORER HAD A SMALL ROCK HIT IT WHEN IT WAS 2 WEEKS OLD, SHATTERED THE WINDSHIELD. NO MORE FORD FOR ME!

THE FORD EDGE WAS BOUGHT NEW IN DECEMBER 2014, AND THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I DROVE THE CAR AT NIGHT. I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA IN NORTHEASTERN PA. WITH NO STREET LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE HAS "PROJECTION BEAM HEADLIGHTS" AND ON HIGH BEAM, THE LIGHT IS SO FOCUSED TO THE FRONT, THAT YOU LOSE SIGHT OF ANY ROAD YOU MAY BE TRYING TO TURN ONTO. YOU CAN VERY EASILY RUN OFF THE ROAD SINCE YOU LOOSE THE RELATIONSHIP OF WHERE YOU ARE DRIVING ON THE DARK ROAD. WITH THE LIGHTS ON LOW BEAM IT IS AS IF A BLACK SHADE COVERS THE TOP 2/3 OF THE WINDSHIELD MAKING IT EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TO SEE THE ROAD, TURNING OR NOT. IT IS BAD ENOUGH ON A SOMEWHAT LEVEL AREA AND IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE MORE THAN 10 YARDS AHEAD WHEN GOING DOWNHILL SO THAT IF ANOTHER VEHICLE IS APPROACHING AND YOU CHANGE TO LOW BEAM TOO SOON, YOU CAN'T SEE THE ROAD OR ANYTHING STANDING IN IT BETWEEN YOURSELF AND THE OTHER VEHICLE. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FOG AND YOU TRY TO DRIVE WITH LOW BEAMS. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER, EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING, THEY "ADJUSTED THE HEADLIGHTS" ( THERE WAS LITTLE TO NO CHANGE IN THE DARK). I HAVE SINCE TAKEN SEVERAL PEOPLE FOR A RIDE IN THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT TO DEMONSTRATE THE HEADLIGHTS AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT MY DESCRIPTION DOESN'T DO THE PROBLEM JUSTICE. I HAVE ALSO TAKEN PICTURES FROM THE DRIVERS SEAT OUT THE WINDSHIELD TO SHOW TO ANYONE INTERESTED. THIS IS THE MOST DANGEROUS VEHICLE I HAVE EVER DRIVEN AT NIGHT. I HAD AFTERMARKET FOG LIGHTS INSTALLED THAT HELP SOMEWHAT BUT DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I WOULD BE WILLING TO BET THAT A NUMBER OF SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENTS AT NIGHT ARE CAUSED BY THESE HEADLIGHTS. I DID CONTACT FORD MOTOR COMPANY, EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AND WAS POLITELY TOLD "THIS IS THE WAY THE LIGHTS WORK". I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT MORE OWNERS LIVING IN RURAL AREAS HAVEN'T COMPLAINED. *TR

ON 9-27-14, USING ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ON STRAIGHT, 4-LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY WITH NO TRAFFIC IN LANE AHEAD OR BEHIND. VEHICLE'S BRAKES SUDDENLY ACTIVATED DROPPING SPEED FROM 74 TO 50 MPH. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP 10-7-14 AND ISSUE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. HAPPENED AGAIN ON 11-11-14 WITH SAME ROADWAY & TRAFFIC CONDITIONS, THIS TIME 55 TO 50 MPH DROP. TAKEN TO DEALER ON 11-20-14 AND AGAIN NO ISSUES WERE DETECTED WITH THE VEHICLE. CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO SAID TO TAKE IT BACK AGAIN TO GENERATE A "HOT LINE" COMPLAINT FOR AN ENGINEER TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE BACK 12-3-14 AND LEFT IT SO THEY COULD DRIVE IT FOR A FEW DAYS AND TRY TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE (THEY SUPPLIED A RENTAL). CALLED AFTER 2 DAYS AND SAID AN ENGINEER "HAPPENED TO BE THERE LOOKING AT ANOTHER VEHICLE SO THEY LOOKED AT MINE". NO ISSUE FOUND, BUT THEY DID A RESET OF THE SYSTEM. THE ENTIRE TIME THEY HAD THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DRIVEN A TOTAL 6 (SIX) MILES. ALSO, ADAPTIVE CRUISE IS SET AS A DEFAULT AND CANNOT BE CHANGED. IF YOU TURN THE "ADAPTIVE" FEATURE OFF, IT GOES BACK WHEN YOU START THE VEHICLE AGAIN. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON BARNSVILLE ROAD IN DICKERSON MARYLAND. I FELT THAT MY CAR DROPPED DOWN AND HEARD A SCRAPPING SOUND AND THE CAR VEERED TO THE RIGHT ON TO A FIELD. I GOT OUT AND FOUND THE ALUMINUM WHEEL ON THE GRASS WITH THE TIRE OFF THE WHEEL . WHEN THE TOW TRUCK CAME I SAW THAT THE CORE OF THE WHEEL HAD TOTALLY SHEARED OFF FROM THE EXTERIOR OF THE WHEEL. THE TIRE HAD NO SIGN OF PUNCTURE. I DID NOT HIT ANY OBJECTS OR POTHOLE. THERE WAS NO WARNING BEFORE THE EVENT. THE FORD DEALER BLAMED THE ALUMINUM WHEEL FAILURE ON A DENT IN THE WHEEL, WHICH DOES NOT EXPLAIN THE SYMMETRICAL TOTAL SEPARATION OF THE CORE OF THE WHEEL FROM THE EXTERIOR AS IF SOME ONE HAD TAKEN A SAW AND SEPARATED THE WHEEL. IT WAS THAT CLEAN OF A CUT. I HAVE THE WHEEL AND THE TIRE FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. *TR

20V692000 · Power Train:axle Assembly:axle Shaft

Nov 10, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Explorer, 2014-2015 Taurus and 2014 Edge vehicles equipped with 2.0L or 2.3L engines and front wheel drive. The support bracket for the front drive axle halfshaft may fail.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: The failed bracket could result in a loss of park function which can cause unintended vehicle movement, and loss of motive power while driving which increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the link shaft bracket, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. Owners received an interim notification detailing safety risk December 8, 2020. A second letter will be mailed when parts become available in January 2021. The recall began February 2, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S63.

15V005000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:delivery:fuel Pump

Jan 9, 2015

Ford Motor Company (Ford) notified the agency on January 8, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2014 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured April 15, 2014, to May 8, 2014, and 2015 Lincoln MKC vehicles manufactured April 21, 2014, to May 15, 2014. On April 30, 2015, Ford expanded the recall to cover an additional 45,505 vehicles, including certain model year 2014-2015 Ford Transit Connect vehicles manufactured November 11, 2013, to August 29, 2014, 2014-2015 Ford Fiesta vehicles manufactured April 10, 2014, to June 17, 2014 and 2014 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured April 30, 2014, to May 21, 2014. Improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in the fuel pump failing.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. The recall began on February 27, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S30.

14V393000 · Power Train:axle Assembly:axle Shaft

Jul 2, 2014

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 2, 2010, to November 30, 2013; 2013-2014 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured August 25, 2011, to November 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles manufactured September 12, 2011, to November 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S10.

PE15020 · Wheel Separation

Opened May 20, 2015 · Closed Jan 4, 2016

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Wheels:rim

On November 29, 2014, ODI received a complaint reporting the complete separation of an original equipment 22-inch alloy wheel rim mounted on the right front position of a model year 2014 Ford Edge vehicle (VOQ 10661278).The driver indicated that the right-front corner of the vehicle suddenly dropped while driving, causing the vehicle to go off the road to the right and into a field. The right-front wheel rim was found to have broken into two pieces. The owner said that there was no prior warning or wheel related problems with the vehicle. The vehicle had been driven approximately 8,500 miles at the time of the incident. On May 29, 2015 ODI sent an information request to Ford asking for detailed information related to the specific 22 inch alloy wheel used on the Edge as well as any peer vehicles which used the same type of wheel. On July 17, 2015 Ford provided ODI with the requested information. Ford's search showed that the single incident reported to ODI is the only instance of a wheel failure on the subject or peer vehicles. The failed wheel was sent to the National Transportation Service Board (NTSB) materials analysis laboratory for examination. The NTSB determined that the wheel failed because of a severe impact that caused a crack that rapidly propagated around the circumference of the wheel, The rim fracture surface had a predominantly rough appearance consistent with an overstress fracture (rapid fracture)There were no abnormalities or unique features associated with the fracture initiation site.Metallurgical analysis of the rim found that the material was within specification and no anomalies were identified that could have contributed to the failure.See the full NTSB report for more details.Based on the absence of additional failures and the results of the wheel material testing and failure analysis, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The Agency will continue to monitor complaints and other information relating to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles and take further action in the future if warranted. The following VOQ is associated with this investigation: 10661278
