The Power Take Off Assembly (PTU) failed. I had it replaced a a Ford Dealership with a genuine Ford PTU. After driving less than 125 miles the PTU failed again and my right front half shaft disengaged without notice on the high when traveling at highway speeds. Upon return to the dealership they noted that the PTU failed and it was replaced at no cost. However, they charged me for the replacement of the Right Front Axel. I contacted Ford Customer Service and contend that recall 14S10 should apply especially after the new PTU failed. They denied my claiming stating that the dealership claimed a torn CV Boot was the cause of my axel disengaging. However there was no mention of a torn CV Boot in the dealerships multipoint inspection of my vehicle when originally brought in. Ford Customer Service and the dealership denied my claim.

I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR ABOUT 40 MINUTES AROUND 35 MILES PER HR, ON A STREET. I SLOWED DOWN TO CHANGE LANES TO ENTER THE FREEWAY RAMP.THEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, IT WOULD BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND LOSE POWER. THE WRENCH ICON APPEARED, BUT WAS ABLE TO STEER, AROUND A FEW FEET, INTO A SERVICE STATION . THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I KEPT THE ENGINE RUNNING BUT THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION. WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR THERE WAS NO ACTIVITY. I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. MAYBE ONE MINUTE LATER, I RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE STARTED RIGHT UP. THE ACCELERATOR WORKED PROPERLY. INSTEAD OF ENTERING THE FREEWAY I TOOK ANOTHER ROUTE HOME,WHICH WAS ABOUT 15 MILES AWAY. I HAD THE VEHICLE TAKEN TO A FORD DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY WHICH WAS 4/11/2019. AFTER INSPECTING IT,FORD STATED THEY COULD NOT IDENTIFY ANY PROBLEMS. I HAVE AROUND 76,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I AM VERY MUCH AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE, BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY DANGER THAT IT POSE. I AM RETURNING IT BACK TO FORD FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY WARNING BEFORE THE VEHICLE LOSS ACCELERATION. I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID A CRASH, IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE USUAL TRAFFIC OR IF I WOULD HAVE ENTERED THE FREEWAY AS PLANNED.

I HAD BEEN DRIVING (TRAVELING NURSE) BACK AND FORTH 3 X WEEKLY TO A NURSING JOB. THE LOW TIRE LIGHT. I AIRED THE TIRE FOR SEVERAL DAYS UNTIL I COULD CARRY IT TO A TIRE SHOP. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE RIM. THE RIM WAS REPAIRED. SIX MONTHS LATER THE LOW TIRE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN. I CARRY IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE RIM IS CRACKED AGAIN. ONCE AGAIN IT IS SENT OFF FOR REPAIR. FEBRUARY THE LOW TIRE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN WITH THE AIR LOSING 3 - 15 POUNDS OF AIR A DAY (I'M A TRAVELING NURSE) AND MY CAR GOES BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE GUY TELLS ME IT IS A FRACTURE IN THE VERY SAME RIM. HE TELLS ME THAT THE ONLY WAY IT IS FRACTURED IS IF I HIT SOMETHING BUT I HAVEN'T HIT SOMETHING. HE TELLS ME THAT THE BACK TIRE IS PRONE TO BEING FRACTURED AND I TELL HIM I ONLY HAD THE TIRES ROTATED 4 DAYS EARLIER. HE TELLS ME IT WILL COST ME $1400.00 PLUS A NEW TIRE AND I TELL HIM I DON'T HAVE THAT. I'VE SEEN THEM ON AMAZON FOR $400. HE TELLS ME HE WILL HAVE TO CHARGE ME FOR A NEW TIRE. I TELL HIM MY TIRES HAVE ROAD HAZARD SOMEWHERE ELSE. ALL 4 RIMS HAVE BEEN ON MY CAR SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. THIS RIM HAS NOW BEEN FRACTURED TWICE AND FORD WILL NOT HONOR IT'S OWN WARRANTY. THEY HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH A NEARLY 60 YEAR OLD NURSE DRIVING 100 MILES TO CARE FOR SOMEONE DYING WALKING OUT TO A FLAT TIRE EVERY SINGLE DAY.

SCARED AND SHAKEN I WAS TRAPPED IN THE CAR WITH TREES BLOCKING THE FRONT DOORS. I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR BY CLIMBING INTO THE BACKSEAT WHERE I WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE AND HAD TO BE TOWED. THIS ACCELERATION IS VERY SCARY AND I WILL NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING THIS CAR AGAIN! WHAT IF CHILDREN WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE WAY?

I WAS DRIVING ON BARNSVILLE ROAD IN DICKERSON MARYLAND. I FELT THAT MY CAR DROPPED DOWN AND HEARD A SCRAPPING SOUND AND THE CAR VEERED TO THE RIGHT ON TO A FIELD. I GOT OUT AND FOUND THE ALUMINUM WHEEL ON THE GRASS WITH THE TIRE OFF THE WHEEL . WHEN THE TOW TRUCK CAME I SAW THAT THE CORE OF THE WHEEL HAD TOTALLY SHEARED OFF FROM THE EXTERIOR OF THE WHEEL. THE TIRE HAD NO SIGN OF PUNCTURE. I DID NOT HIT ANY OBJECTS OR POTHOLE. THERE WAS NO WARNING BEFORE THE EVENT. THE FORD DEALER BLAMED THE ALUMINUM WHEEL FAILURE ON A DENT IN THE WHEEL, WHICH DOES NOT EXPLAIN THE SYMMETRICAL TOTAL SEPARATION OF THE CORE OF THE WHEEL FROM THE EXTERIOR AS IF SOME ONE HAD TAKEN A SAW AND SEPARATED THE WHEEL. IT WAS THAT CLEAN OF A CUT. I HAVE THE WHEEL AND THE TIRE FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. *TR

Nov 10, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Explorer, 2014-2015 Taurus and 2014 Edge vehicles equipped with 2.0L or 2.3L engines and front wheel drive. The support bracket for the front drive axle halfshaft may fail.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: The failed bracket could result in a loss of park function which can cause unintended vehicle movement, and loss of motive power while driving which increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the link shaft bracket, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. Owners received an interim notification detailing safety risk December 8, 2020. A second letter will be mailed when parts become available in January 2021. The recall began February 2, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S63.

Jan 9, 2015

Ford Motor Company (Ford) notified the agency on January 8, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2014 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured April 15, 2014, to May 8, 2014, and 2015 Lincoln MKC vehicles manufactured April 21, 2014, to May 15, 2014. On April 30, 2015, Ford expanded the recall to cover an additional 45,505 vehicles, including certain model year 2014-2015 Ford Transit Connect vehicles manufactured November 11, 2013, to August 29, 2014, 2014-2015 Ford Fiesta vehicles manufactured April 10, 2014, to June 17, 2014 and 2014 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured April 30, 2014, to May 21, 2014. Improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in the fuel pump failing.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. The recall began on February 27, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S30.

14V393000 · Power Train:axle Assembly:axle Shaft

Jul 2, 2014

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 2, 2010, to November 30, 2013; 2013-2014 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured August 25, 2011, to November 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles manufactured September 12, 2011, to November 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S10.

PE15020 · Wheel Separation

Opened May 20, 2015 · Closed Jan 4, 2016

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Wheels:rim

On November 29, 2014, ODI received a complaint reporting the complete separation of an original equipment 22-inch alloy wheel rim mounted on the right front position of a model year 2014 Ford Edge vehicle (VOQ 10661278).The driver indicated that the right-front corner of the vehicle suddenly dropped while driving, causing the vehicle to go off the road to the right and into a field. The right-front wheel rim was found to have broken into two pieces. The owner said that there was no prior warning or wheel related problems with the vehicle. The vehicle had been driven approximately 8,500 miles at the time of the incident. On May 29, 2015 ODI sent an information request to Ford asking for detailed information related to the specific 22 inch alloy wheel used on the Edge as well as any peer vehicles which used the same type of wheel. On July 17, 2015 Ford provided ODI with the requested information. Ford's search showed that the single incident reported to ODI is the only instance of a wheel failure on the subject or peer vehicles. The failed wheel was sent to the National Transportation Service Board (NTSB) materials analysis laboratory for examination. The NTSB determined that the wheel failed because of a severe impact that caused a crack that rapidly propagated around the circumference of the wheel, The rim fracture surface had a predominantly rough appearance consistent with an overstress fracture (rapid fracture)There were no abnormalities or unique features associated with the fracture initiation site.Metallurgical analysis of the rim found that the material was within specification and no anomalies were identified that could have contributed to the failure.See the full NTSB report for more details.Based on the absence of additional failures and the results of the wheel material testing and failure analysis, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The Agency will continue to monitor complaints and other information relating to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles and take further action in the future if warranted. The following VOQ is associated with this investigation: 10661278
