2022 RAM Promaster

I am submitting a safety complaint regarding my 2022 Ram 3500/Thor Class B RV, VIN [XXX], with only approximately 6,858 miles, which I brought to a dealer in the Inland Empire for Recall [XXX]. Before taking my truck to the dealer, there was no known coolant leak. The vehicle was in good condition and operating normally. I left the truck with the dealer specifically for the recall service. After approximately two days, the dealer called me and said they had found a coolant-system leak and that I would need to pay approximately $1,500 for repairs. I was surprised because there was no known leak when I delivered the vehicle. I immediately contacted MOPAR for assistance and asked whether the leak could be related to the recall service or whether the repair should be covered. Unfortunately, MOPAR did not resolve my concern. I declined the $1,500 repair. The dealer told me they could not guarantee there would be no leaks after the recall repair was completed. When I picked up my truck, the dealer did not tell me that the coolant leak was still present or warn me about driving the vehicle. I drove the truck home. After getting home, I opened the hood and discovered a long screwdriver left inside the engine compartment. I am not claiming that the dealer caused the coolant leak. However, I am concerned about the timing of the leak, the recall service, the $1,500 repair demand, the lack of warning at pickup, and the screwdriver left in the engine compartment. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether this coolant leak may be related to Recall 67C, the recall repair, an improper repair, or another safety defect. NOTE: I am now seeing on your website that it appears the Recall 67C repair has not been recorded as completed for my vehicle. I have uploaded a screenshot of the information shown on the website for your reference. Please review this discrepancy as part of my complaint. This is a very serious situation. No one should be able to drive a vehicle with this kind of problem. This recall was issued several months ago, I think from October 2025. This van has a camper made in it by Thor Twist and sold by Camping World in Arkansas. We bought it to travel around the country we retire. What a nightmare. We have a granddaughter who lives with us and goes camping with us most of the time. We also have a handicapped daughter who also travels with us sometimes. She has never been able to walk. What if the van catches on fire while she is with us? My wife and I are in our mid [XXX] . We have been losing sleep thinking about this The people we bought it from said it’s not their responsibility, same as Thor Twist. They say it’s a chassis problem and we need to call Chrysler Corporation. I called the Chrysler Corporation the Dodge dealership near our location. Recall notice states “The remedy for this condition is not currently available. We can’t plan any vacation time due to this recall. We now have nightmares about traveling anywhere in this van. We paid over $100,000 for this van and cannot use it. We are requesting that we return the van and get all our money back. We have had nothing but problems with this van and worry about making any trips in it in the future. We have had it in the shop 4 times for recalls and several other times for malfunctioning issues. My vehicle is subject to Safety Recall 67C for an engine-compartment fire risk involving the cooling fan module and inadequate fuse protection. I contacted an authorized Ram dealership and Stellantis corporate. Both confirmed that the recall is open and that no repair remedy is currently available. Stellantis has confirmed in writing (Case #95056397) that there is no interim safety solution available for affected owners while this recall remains unresolved. This vehicle is my primary residence. Stellantis has offered rental reimbursement, but this does not provide a safe or realistic interim solution for a vehicle that functions as both transportation and housing. The manufacturer has acknowledged a fire risk but has provided no interim safety guidance or accommodation for owners who cannot reasonably stop using the vehicle while awaiting a remedy. I am reporting this as a safety concern due to the lack of a remedy and the absence of interim safety guidance for affected owners. Stellantis has issued a stop-sale on affected vehicles, confirming the seriousness of the defect, while existing owners remain without a viable safety alternative.

I purchased this Ram Promaster 3500 in 2022. In 2023 I was in Canada and went to have a spare key made. The dealer was unable to program a key to the vehicle. When I returned home to the Seattle area I took the vehicle to a Seattle Ram Business link dealer. They were also unable to program a key. May of 2025 I took the vehicle in for work and asked them to continue investigating the key issue. They were still unable to do so and said that I needed a new RFH. This repair did not fix the problem and made it impossible to start the engine. They also replaced the PCM. This did not correct the problem. A tech was called from MOPAR who found a STAR ONLINE PUBLICATION for mopar which states that between Ram vehicles ( I don’t know if it is specific to ProMasters) manufactured between the dates of 11/29/2021 and 12/23/2021 had an “incorrect encryption software being programmed to the immobilizer modules.” If you type the VIN into the Service Library you can verify that S2208000129 is applicable. I was not made aware of this until I picked up the vehicle from the dealer with the old parts reinstalled. My concern is that I don’t know what else this problem in terms of the electrical and safety systems.

The contact owns a 2022 Ram Promaster 2500. The contact stated that while driving at 25 MPH in the rain, the power steering and check engine warning lights illuminated. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle however, the warning lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, and the dealer became aware that there was water inside the power steering connector and determined that the steering rack and wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 26,602.

The chassis battery keeps dying after a few days. There was a recall for awning to correct issue because it would open on its own. We did recall now there is another one for seatbelt. But no one is addressing the battery that keeps draining. We replaced battery already once. Dodge said it will go dead after a week no matter what. Ours don’t even make it 4 days. This is a safety issue because of the awning opening but it affects the battery. We would get stuck and no one to jump us.

On November 3, 2023 I was driving the van on the NYS Thruway. I had stopped at a rest area to use the facilities. When I returned to the van about 5 minutes later the vehicle was smoking profusely and objects were falling out of the engine area. By the time i got to the van there were flames coming out of the engine area and the entire front of the van was engulfed in flames. Luckily someone had called the fire department and the flames were extinguished quickly. In the meantime I had removed 2 Alpacas from the rear of the van with the help of witnesses. There were no warning signs of an issue with the engine. No warning lights and not burning odor. So, yes, I feel the I, my alpacas, and others safety were put at risk. I am so thankful that the fire started while I was stopped at the rest area and not while driving on the thruway and avoided a real tragedy. The van is a total loss.The incident has been reported to insurance and currently under investigation and are waiting a final report.
