Forward Collision AvoidanceVehicle Speed Control

The Forward Emergency Braking light has been on and off intermittently. The other days while driving on the highway at approximately 55-60 mph the light on the dash suddenly came on and the car applied the brakes by itself coming to a complete stop. There was not another vehicle in front of me and I almost got hit from behind.

My Nissan Armada is 4 years old with 42,000 miles and has needed two brake switches replaced on it to date. This is RIDICULOUS! This car is completely unsafe. It has failed to start more times than I can count, and it most recently broke down on my on New Years Day. I had to have it towed. I have reported this issue to Nissan and they have done nothing to help make this right! I am now starting a FaceBook group (of other Nissan Armada owners that are experiencing the same issue) to file complaints against Nissan for this. This is a serious safety issue and needs to be resolved.

The Display Control Unit (DCU) has failed in my 18 Armada. My VIN is not part of the recall with the other 18 Armada models. The safety features of the collision warning system does not work because the DCU has failed. The back up camera does not work because the DCU has failed. This is a pedestrian safety issue. The Navigation system does not work because the DCU has failed. None of the control panel buttons on dash or the steering wheels work because the DCU has failed including the cruise control. The Nissan dealership has confirmed it is the DCU but it is not under the recall with my VIN, however it appears all 18 Armada's have been recalled due to the same issue. No warning lights appears, the display screen stopped working only displaying the Nissan symbol. I would like my VIN added to the recall list for the DCU so the vehicle can become safe to myself and others.

SEVERAL TIMES THE ENGINE WILL NOT CRANK AND WILL NOT START. CAN TAKE UP TO 10 MINUTES SOMETIMES BEFORE VEHICLE WILL START, LEAVING DRIVER STRANDED. TWICE NOW THE BCI MALFUNCTION (BACKUP COLLISION INTERVENTION) ERROR CAME UP ON THE DASH ALONG WITH OTHER LIGHTS IMMEDIATLY AFTER ENGINE STARTUP. FIRST TIME AT 23,027 MILES, AND NOW RECENTLY AT 32,081 MILES. THE FIRST TIME, DEALERSHIP SAID THEY "COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM." THIS RECENT TIME, THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN TO REPLACE A STOP LAMP SWITCH (NTB20-065). WE'LL SEE IF THE PROBLEM IS ACTUALLY FIXED. THIS SHOULD REALLY BE A RECALL CONSIDERING THE SHEAR NUMBER OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. PLUS THE BRAKE LAMPS MAY NOT WORK CONSISTENTLY, ELEVATING THE RISK OF A COLLISION IF OTHER DRIVERS AREN'T AWARE THE VEHICLE IS SLOWING DOWN.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE HAS DISPLAYED AN INTERMITTENT TRANSMISSION SHUDDER AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. THIS OCCURS AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 20-40 MPH. THE SHUDDER CAN BE FELT THROUGH THE FLOOR INTO THE SEAT AND APPEARS AS IF THE TRANSMISSION IS SEARCHING FOR A PROPER GEAR. UNDER HARD ACCELERATION/FREEWAY DRIVING THE ISSUE DOES NOT PRESENT ITSELF. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO BOTH MY NISSAN AND INFINITY DEALER. BOTH TECHNICIANS WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE CONFIRMED FEELING THE SHUDDER. DRIVELINE SERVICE WAS PERFORMED AT NISSAN AND THE ECM RECEIVED THE MOST CURRENT UPDATE. NISSAN TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE ARMADA AND THAT THE SHUDDER IS DUE TO THE COMPUTER TRYING TO FIND THE OPTIMUM TRANSMISSION SHIFT POINTS FOR THE BEST FUEL ECONOMY. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO MY INFINITY DEALER AFTER LEARNING THAT THE ISSUE IS KNOWN TO EXIST IN THE QX56 & QX80 AS WELL AS THE ARMADA AS THE VEHICLES ALL SHARE THE SAME COMPONENTS. MY SERVICE TECHNICIAN DROVE THE VEHICLE AND ALSO CONFIRMED THE SHUDDER OCCURRING INTERMITTENTLY UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS. I REQUESTED THAT THEY SEARCH FOR THE MOST CURRENT UPDATE WHICH WOULD BE THE "E" UPDATE, UNFORTUNATELY THIS UPDATE ONLY APPLIES TO MODELS PRIOR TO 2018. SERVICE TECH ADVISED ME TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE NORMALLY AS THIS IS NOT A MECHANICAL ISSUE, BUT A SOFTWARE ISSUE. HE ALSO CONFIRMED THAT NISSAN / INFINITY ARE WELL AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND HAVE DONE LITTLE TO NOTHING TO PROVIDE A TSB, COMPUTER UPDATE, OR PERMANENT SOLUTION. HE FURTHER ADVISED THAT A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT, REBUILD, OR MAJOR SERVICING WOULD NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE AS IT IS SOFTWARE RELATED. IT IS DEEMED VERY COMMON. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE IN A $65,000 VEHICLE. NISSAN NEEDS TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE INSTEAD OF HAVING DEALERS ADVISING OWNERS THIS IS NORMAL. MY CONCERN IS A TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHILE DRIVING.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 Nissan GT-R and Taxi and Infiniti QX50, QX60, Q70, Q70L vehicles. The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge. The recall began November 11, 2019 and all affected VINs should be activated. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200.
