AIR MATIC SUSPENSION MALFUNCTION ERROR MESSAGE WITH NO CODES. CAR HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF DEALERSHIP FOR PAST YEAR FOR THIS ISSUE. DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING CAR ISSUED WARNING THAT CAR HEIGHT WAS TOO LOW FOR DRIVING, MANUAL READ TO PROCEED WITH CAUTION. ONCE PARKED AND OFF, THE CAR COMPLETELY DROPPED TO THE GROUND CAUSING THE TIRES TO RUB AGAINST THE WHEEL WELL. ANOTHER OCCURRENCE, WHEN PLACING MORE WEIGHT IN ADDITION TO THE DRIVER CAUSES THE MALFUNCTION ERROR MESSAGE CAUSING A ROUGH RIDE AND THE SUSPENSION TO RAISE UNEVENLY. CAR HAS BEEN TO THE MB DEALERSHIP OVER 4 TIMES AND THEY CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE AIRMATIC SUSPENSION AS THE COMPUTER DOES NOT LEAVE ANY CODES FOR THEM TO FOLLOW. CAR IS BEING DRIVEN AND TESTED BY THE DEALERSHIP OVERNIGHT (THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THEY'VE MONITORED OVERNIGHT) AND OVER THE WEEKEND TO FURTHER MONITOR THE PROBLEM WITH A COMPUTER CONNECTED TO THE CAR TO DETECT THE MALFUNCTION. THE MALFUNCTION STARTED OCCURRING EVERY THREE MONTHS AND HAS PROGRESSED TO EVERY OTHER WEEK DURING THE PAST YEAR. THE CAR DOES NOT DRIVE AS CAR WITH AIR MATIC SUSPENSION SHOULD BUT RATHER A CAR WITH NO SUSPENSION AT ALL. SERVICE MANAGER SUSPECTS IT TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE COMPUTER SYSTEM (LAST RESORT REPAIR AS PER MERCEDES BENZ) WHICH IS CAUSING THE MALFUNCTION. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2006-2012 ML, GL, and R-Class vehicles. Please refer to MBUSA's recall report for specific vehicle model details. Moisture may accumulate and cause corrosion in the brake booster housing unit, which can result in reduced brake performance or brake failure.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Reduced brake performance or brake failure can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the remedy has been performed. Dealers will remove the rubber sleeve, inspect the brake booster, and as necessary, replace the brake booster. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 24, 2024. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MMUSA's number for this recall is 2024050001/2. This recall is an expansion of previous recall number 22V-315.
