2024 Lexus Nx

The driver's side door on my 2024 Lexus NX 350h has completely seized and will not open from either the inside or the outside. The vehicle is equipped with the electronic e-Latch system. Even the emergency mechanical override fails to release the latch. This is a severe, life-threatening safety hazard. In the event of an accident, fire or emergency, I would be trapped inside the vehicle with no way to exit from the driver's seat. An authorized dealership (Lexus of Tustin) has kept the vehicle for over two weeks without resolving the issue. They failed to diagnose the electronic latch failure properly and instead presented a retail estimate of $781.88 just to "attempt" a repair, while officially advising in writing to take this 2024 vehicle to a third-party bodyshop because their technicians cannot properly access the component. The manufacturer and the dealership are refusing to treat a critical structural latch failure as a safety defect, leaving a 2024 vehicle grounded and completely unsafe to operate. This is a known, recurring problem across the e-Latch platform that heavily impacts vehicle safety.

DOOR LOCK SYSTEM FAILURE - LOCKOUT AND ENTRAPMENT HAZARD. In late xxx, during a single sub-zero weather event in the [XXX] area, the door lock system on this 2024 Lexus NX 450h+ failed on two separate occasions within the same week. On both occasions the vehicle could not be unlocked or entered by any means available to the owner (smart key fob, digital key, remote unlock) and we were locked out in sub-zero temperatures. Lexus Roadside Assistance was dispatched both times and each time took more than three hours to reach us, for more than six hours total stranded outdoors in sub-zero conditions. When the Roadside Assistance technician gained access, he confirmed the defect also prevents the doors from being unlocked from the INSIDE. Had occupants been in the vehicle when the failure occurred, they would have been trapped with no means of egress (fire, submersion, post-collision, medical emergency, hypothermia/heat stroke risk). The vehicle was stationary and no crash, fire or injury occurred. Prior to the lockouts, the remote start and digital key had stopped working. The lock failure was reported to the Lexus Brand Engagement Center on XXX and the vehicle was serviced at the selling Lexus dealer on XXX, where remote start/digital key failure and a defective battery were logged; the lock defect was not resolved. The vehicle was returned to the dealer on XXX and the dealer provided a repair estimate rather than performing the repair under warranty. The vehicle is under three years old and under 22,000 miles, within the 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty. A written demand for a no-cost repair has been sent to Lexus. The vehicle and Roadside Assistance dispatch records are available for inspection on request. This failure appears related to the vehicle's electrical/body-control system and may affect other 2024 NX vehicles. This vehicle has the standard headlights. No headlight cleaners included. Live in Colorado. When it snows, the front end of the car attracts snow to the point all the safety features shut down and the headlights pack up with snow so bad you cannot drive the car at night. You can’t see the road and other drivers flash their headlights to tell you the lights are not on, even though they are. Only solution is to pull over in the storm and brush the snow off the headlights. That last about 5 miles. This is a severe safety issue in which Lexus should be recalled to add headlight washers as part of the standard headlights.
