2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I am writing to make you aware of a safety issue that I have encountered with my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. On August 21, 2026, the gas pedal/throttle control just fell off as I was driving myself and infant on a busy three lane thoroughfare in [XXX]. I went to slow down the car by braking, but it was very difficult. I went into an empty bus lane so as not to get rear ended or crash into something. Finally, the car systems ceased. No warning lamps came on ever or any messages. I had no problems with the car prior to this occurring. As I said previously, I had my infant in the car with me at the time and never expected for a gas pedal/throttle to literally fall off. I didn't think that cars would be made for this to ever happen. This could've been a major tragedy. I usually commute to work on major highways with tractor trailers and trucks, but I was off that day luckily. We could have been killed. I had to have a flatbed bring it to a Jeep dealer in Nanuet, NY where they took possession of the car and car part. I did take phots of the part though. It was a clear day as I arrived at work. While pulling into a parking spot, the Jeep suddenly accelerated over a curb and into a tree. I was able to turn the wheel upon seeing the tree, which helped me avoid hitting other vehicles on the opposite side of the island. I had to depress the brakes multiple times before the vehicle finally stopped just short of another tree. During the incident, I was on a conference call. The attendees confirmed that there were no warning sounds from the vehicle—only the sound of the impact. Notably, the airbags did not deploy. The front driver-side area sustained extensive damage, causing the driver’s door to jam. Fortunately, I did not suffer any physical injuries. The vehicle was towed to an auto body repair shop. When connected to a scanner, no error codes were detected. Repairs took nearly five weeks. Although the front sensors were replaced, they still did not function properly. The shop consulted a technician who remoted in and advised them to replace all the sensors again and inspect the wiring. Although the vehicle has been repaired, I remain fearful of driving it. I’ve read similar reports on this board suggesting these issues may be related to the electrical system. I plan to contact the dealership to ask whether they have experience with such cases and if they can inspect the systems.

After crashing into the tree, the vehicle continued to accelerate forward and began to increase speed. The contact shifted the transmission shifter to the park position, and the vehicle was stopped. During the incident, no injuries were reported, a police report was taken the next morning, and the vehicle was towed to a nearby towing facility. The vehicle was later examined by an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the failure was caused by a computer malfunction. No further information was available. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was 64,000.

After the incident, it was discovered that the front brakes had seized and the vehicle was undrivable. The contact indicated that during the crash the collision avoidance feature did not active. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer. A police report was taken at the scene. No injuries were reported. The manufacturer was notified of the crash and an engineer was sent to examine the vehicle. No further information was available. The failure mileage was 35,800.

Hello dear….I suffer from a problem when I’m driving my truck and it’s as follows: when the gear is on D and my truck stopped ,and I stomp the gas pedal with a little force my truck keep going I can’t stopped for 40 seconds after which return to the normal driving state,this situation happened to me 5 times,I don’t know if the speed control cable can interfere with the speed control servo pulley and not allow the throttle to return to idle when disengaging the speed control (a stuck throttle could result)..,,

The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that after refueling and attempting to drive out of the service station, the vehicle independently accelerated to 60 mph. The contact was able to shift into neutral and drove the vehicle into a field and the vehicle returned to normal function. Additionally, the gear shifter was not operating as intended. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The mechanic located the wiring that failed and was able to return the vehicle to normal function. The contact also wanted to state that the dealer was unable to specify what caused the vehicle to independently accelerate. The gear shifter was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,000.

PURCHASED NEW IN SEPTEMBER. CURRENTLY HAS 2100 MILES. CRUISE CONTROL "STICKS" AND FAILS TO DISENGAGE AT THE CONTROLS. WHEN THE ACCELERATE CONTROL IS DEPRESSED AND RELEASED, THE VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT CAPPING THE INCREASE IN ACCELERATION UNTIL THE SYSTEM IS DISENGAGED WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL. VERY DANGEROUS! THIS SCENARIO OCCURS BOTH AT LOWER AND HIGHER SPEEDS OVER 55.

HOLDING THE "+" BUTTON DOWN FOR MORE THAN A SPLIT SECOND CAUSES THE SPEED TO QUICKLY INCREASE IN 5 MPH INCREMENTS. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH, I PRESSED THE "+" KEY AND WITHIN SECONDS THE SPEED CONTROL SETTING JUMPED TO 95 MPH. I HIT "CANCEL" AS FAST AS I COULD. IN JEEP'S 2017 AND 2019 MODELS THAT I OWNED THE SPEED INCREASED GRADUALLY WHEN THE "+" KEY WAS DEPRESSED. TH SELLING DEALERSHIP CHECKED OUT THE VEHICLE AND REPORTED TO ME THAT IT WAS WORKING AS DESIGNED. SEE ATTACHMENT.
