A few months ago, my ABS and Traction Control lights began to come on and off randomly. Then, new lights would pop up, such as Check Engine and the Brake light. These lights would come on, and then go off very sporadically. In the last week, it had gotten much worse. My tire pressure light and EPS light had came on as well, totaling about 6 or 7 lights that are on and won't go off. Then, my steering wheel became increasingly hard to turn, I' m guessing because the EPS was off. Then, my speedometer completely stopped working, and my gas gauge was jumping up and down after I had filled it to a full tank. I pulled the code, and got code for a wheel speed sensor. I replaced the wheel speed sensor, and no lights went off. I then inspected the fuses, noticed that the ABS fuse was blown, and decided to replace it. I replaced it, and the ABS module (or pump) started to smoke badly. The car had a heavy electrical smoke smell and I didn't think it was safe to drive for a while. Hyundais have had recalls for ABS modules smoking before, but never for a 2013 Hyundai Veloster, and I believe that is something that should be investigated because I believe I could have been injured.

I BOUGHT MY 2013 VELOSTER IN SEPTEMBER 2012. SOMETIME BETWEEN 2016 AND 2017(NOT QUITE SURE), MY PARKING BRAKES LOCKED UP WHILE PARKED. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO HYUNDAI. I BOUGHT MY 2013 VELOSTER IN SEPTEMBER 2012. SOMETIME BETWEEN 2016 AND 2017(NOT QUITE SURE), MY PARKING BRAKES LOCKED UP WHILE PARKED. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO HYUNDAI. HYUNDAI WANTED $900 PLUS TO REPAIR. MY CAR WAS PASS THE 60K WARRANTY SO I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, WHO REPAIRED THE BRAKES BUT THEY NEVER WORKED. SO I DECIDED TO JUST DRIVE WITHOUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKES UNTIL LAST YEAR, 2019 WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I COPIED AND PASTED THE FOLLOWING COMPLAINT POSTED BY ANOTHER HYUNDAI OWNER ON THIS SITE: REAR BRAKE CALIPERS STICK CAUSING THE TIRES NOT TO TURN SINCE THE BRAKES ARE ENGAGED THIS IS DUE TO THE CALIPER BEING. STUCK. THE DEALER FIXED MINE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BUT NOW THE PROBLEM IS IN THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT BECAUSE THE CAR HAS 63280 MILES ON IT (3280) OUT OF WARRANTY. THE 2012 MODEL OF THIS CAR HAD THE EXACT PROBLEM AND WAS RECALLED BUT HYUNDAI REFUSES TO FIX MY 2013 FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. WHY. LOOK UP "VELOSTER STICKING BRAKES" ON THE INTERNET AND SEE THAT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM AND HYUNDAI KNOWS ABOUT IT (2012) BUT REFUSES TO FIX THE LATER MODELS WITH THE PROBLEM LIKE MINE. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE THE BRAKES ON ONE OF THEM STICK AND CAUSE A WRECK. MY CAR HAS TWO HUGE WORN OUT SPOTS (MUST REPLACE) ON THE TIRE DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE HAVE THIS PROBLEM FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED DUE TO INVOLUNTARY STUCK BRAKES. I ENCOUNTERED THE SAME THING, BUT MORE. LAST YEAR, 2019 MY BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN WHILE DRIVING BUT SINCE I KNEW I HAD NO PARKING BRAKES, I DECIDED TO HAVE MY BRAKES CHECKED. BF GOODRICH CHECKED MY BRAKES AND REPAIRED MY REAR BRAKES BUT INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULD NOT FIX THE EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKES. IT COST ME ABOUT $900 AGAIN. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION OF THESE REPAIRS, BUT I AM UNABLE TO SCAN AND UPLOAD THEM NOW. PLEASE PROVIDE AN EMAIL ADDRESS SO I CAN SEND THEM,

I NOTICED SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD FAILED. IT WAS NOTED THAT THE ENGINE HAD A LOUD TICKING SOUND THAT IT DID NOT HAVE PRIOR TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE. THE ENGINE IS GOING TO BE REPLACED WITH COST SHARE FROM HYUNDAI. THIS IS NOT A UNIQUE ISSUE AND HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME EXACT SAME ISSUE IN THE KIA SOUL WITH THE 1.6L ENGINE. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IN FULL BY THE MANUFACTURER.

REAR LEFT CALIPER STICKING WHEN IN REVERSE. BACK LEFT TIRE DRAGS. DRIVING FORWARD IS FINE, NO ISSUES. START IN MARCH THIS YEAR (2019). NOT SURE WHY THIS ISN'T PART OF THE RECALL, AS I'VE READ SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS AS WELL.
