System/Component Failed & Inspection: The vehicle suffers from recurring failures across the engine, powertrain, electronic throttle control, and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control systems (DTCs P0524, P0642, P2118, P022100). The vehicle is fully available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: While driving, the vehicle suffered a complete, sudden loss of motive power on an active highway entrance ramp. The engine stalled in moving traffic with zero throttle response, creating an immediate collision hazard before requiring a tow. Confirmation by Dealer: Technicians formally confirmed these defect patterns. In May 2026, diagnostics logged major engine and emission/EGR control codes, but corporate refused goodwill repair. In August 2026, the highway stall recurred. Diagnostics confirmed active low oil pressure and throttle failure codes, which the dealer resolved by applying 4 factory ECU software updates under TSB 25-01-010H. Service personnel explicitly confirmed these engine control issues are manufacturing defects, not wear-and-tear or mileage-related. Inspections: Inspected, diagnosed, and serviced by authorized dealership service department technicians during both the May and August 2026 failure events. Warning Symptoms & History: Engine issues began at 341 miles when purchased new (settled). In May 2026, check engine lights returned with diagnostic codes for engine and EGR/emissions systems. In August 2026, total power loss occurred, preceded by check engine, forward collision camera, and radar sensor warnings.

The blind spot warning went off and locked all the brakes up. We were not able to move the vehicle and could not even pull off the road out of traffic. There is no way to disable the brakes when the computer or sensors are malfunctioning. We had to get the vehicle towed.

A week ago, I was driving my 2022 Tucson Hybrid Limited on the highway on my way to work around 7:50 a.m. It was a bright day, good weather. I was in the center lane when my car suddenly braked HARD and came to a stop on the highway! My foot was still on the gas pedal, but the Automatic Emergency Braking light was on. I panicked because I had no control over what the car was doing. Thankfully, I was not rear-ended and didn't cause an accident. I put on my hazard lights, shifted into park on the highway's center lane, then back into drive and it seemed fine. There was not really any traffic in front of me that I remember, but there were some cars on either side and behind me that had to swerve around me. I don't trust this car anymore. It is going to get me or someone else killed. I took it to the dealer 2 days ago and the initial inspection didn't show any problems or error codes. They told me I could have it back since there didn't seem to be a problem or they could give me a loaner car and keep testing my car. I have a loaner. I hope they find something wrong with the car, otherwise, I am afraid of my car getting me or someone else killed. I am especially scared after reading about all the others here who have had this same issue.

Forward Collision Avoidance

While driving over 50 mph the emergency brake has initiated 3 times in a 4 month period. There are no cars in front of my vehicle and it is not the collision warning but it will flash on the dash the the emergency brake is engaged in red, it will make a warning beeping noise and the car will brake on its own.

Driving at night when it snows is unsafe. The forward collision warning sensor is covered with snow within minutes and so are the headlights. They are placed in the front bumper and covered with snow because by their design they are not flush with the bumper. They are sitting deep within the bumper which creates a trap for snow and slush. I hade to stop every few minutes to clean the headlights from snow because they were covered and I couldn’t see anything in front. It’s a design flaw.

My vehicle takes over my breaks and completely takes control of my vehicle away from me (the driver). It does this randomly. I had a hit and run in a parking lot due to this issue. I am greatly concerned for my safety.

The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition.
