While driving at normal speed, my 2022 Hyundai Palisade suddenly lost power without warning. Multiple warning icons appeared on the dashboard at the same time. The vehicle immediately slowed down and became unsafe to operate. After pulling over, the vehicle would not restart and had to be towed. This created a dangerous situation on the roadway. I am reporting this because I wonder if other owners may have experienced similar sudden power-loss events with this model year. It was fortunate that I was on a secondary road and not on the highway when this happened because it could have resulted in fatalities.

Radiator failed, replaced. Subsequent visits showed hoses loose, retightened. Continued visits had upper radiator hose replaced. Leaks every winter requiring service visits. Hyundai has been slow with these fixes. Also recalls issues have been slow and parts generally not available long after recall issued.

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle shuddered and jerked significantly. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, a message advising of an unknown error was displayed. The contact stated that the check engine warning light started flashing. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, and the dealer performed approximately four oil consumption tests and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the engine; however, the engine failures persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle jerked while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure was related to the cold weather. The dealer replaced the spark plugs; however, the jerking failure increased while driving, and the vehicle felt as if the vehicle was going to stall. Additionally, the vehicle was experiencing excessive coolant consumption. The contact stated the message "Engine Overheating" was displayed while driving. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road for an hour, and coolant was added to the coolant reservoir. The vehicle was driven to the dealer at slow speeds on the expressway, but the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle could not be serviced, and the contact was advised that the vehicle could be driven to the residence because coolant was added to the vehicle. The vehicle was driven and parked at the residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was awaiting a call back. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

Needs to be re-started each time. Pinging noise when accelerating. The car is brought into Parkway Hyundai in Wilmington, NC. Oil was below dipstick. This lack of oil causes the engine to misfire. I asked why the "low oil" light doesn't appear. I am told that he didn't know but the light only goes on when its completely out of oil. That doesn't seem safe at all. At this point, I am told by Service agent that this is a known problem with Hyundai and the recommend bringing the vehicle in for oil checks every 1,000 miles Dec 15, 2025. Mileage = 86,597. The first incident, my SUV failed to start, per Roadside Assistance, I replaced the battery. No diagnostic testing done. On 12/26/25 my SUV STOPPED COLD while driving. Red battery light and other warning indicators on dashboard lit up. Radio went dead; loss of steering assist; loss of vehicle power; dashboard went black and SUV SHUT DOWN. It would not start again. Towed to Hyundai for diagnostic test. I leave my home at 4:30 a.m. every morning driving 30 miles on the beltway to work. Imagine the danger, Stopping Cold on the beltway, in the dark alone with no power for emergency lights to warn approaching traffic of the danger. I travel with my family in my SUV on the beltway daily. I no longer trust this vehicle, and I’ve requested to be reimbursed; my vehicle is my livelihood and it’s my life and the lives of my family each day that I get into this SUV. SUV is paid off. Rockville Hyundai’s finding was a faulty alternator and battery. The original battery was in the SUV with the first incident, still I’m terrified to drive this SUV. I researched possible causes for my SUV performing in this manner and my research yielded, and I quote:  “Electronic troubles with the 2022 Palisade Calligraphy often involve dashboard warning lights, driver-assist malfunctions, instrument cluster failures, and even engine shutdowns, frequently linked to issues like a faulty alternator, low battery voltage, or problems with the instrument cluster itself (Recalls), with some owners reporting dangerous situations like loss of steering assist or vehicle power loss on the highway.” On 1/6/26 on the beltway, the battery light and other warning indicators lit up; radio went dead, all warning indicators on the dashboard lit up; experienced loss of steering assist; and the dashboard went black instantly. I reached home, and parked; lights on the dashboard came back on, and I turned the engine off. On 1/7/26 I drove to Hyundai for another diagnostic test. 1/21/26 SUV still in service.

We have tried to get our local dealership to replace the seatbelt in reference to Hyundai major safety recall 283. They have not provided a remedy to my families daily driver. We scheduled an appointment to make the repairs on 12/18. My wife took the vehicle there just for them to tell us they did not have the parts to make repairs. She was told this on the phone as well when she called on 1/7, 1/15, and 1/19. We also contacted Hyundai directly and was told our case would be expedited. Our concern has not been important to every entity that we have contacted due to it not being there families at risk. Other families have been able to get rental vehicles provided by the dealership but my family has not been that fortunate. Thanks in advance and any help is appreciated.

PE24021 · Inadvertent Seat Belt Unlatch

Opened Aug 7, 2024 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Seat Belts

On August 7, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE24021 to investigate complaints alleging inadvertent unlatching of seat belts in model year (MY) 2020-2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles manufactured by Hyundai Motor America. The complaints alleged that, without warning, the seat belts sometimes inadvertently unlatch, increasing the risk of injury due to full loss of seat belt protection in the event of a crash. As a result of information exchanged as part of the investigation, on April 3, 2025, Hyundai initiated a warranty extension policy for seat belt buckles on model year 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.  Hyundai subsequently initiated a request for warranty parts returns to support further analysis by the buckle supplier, ZF Lifetec. The warranty extension (reference “Z06”) noted that certain 2020 – 2025 model year Palisade vehicles may experience abnormal seat belt buckle(s) operation.   Hyundai extended the warranty coverage for the seat belt buckle under this condition to 15 years/150,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the date of original retail delivery or date of first use.  This action is valid for original and subsequent owners. On September 11, 2025, Hyundai filed recall 25V-607 for certain 2020-2025 Hyundai Palisade vehicles.  Hyundai explained in its recall filing that the subject vehicles are equipped with seat belt buckle assemblies in the front row and second row outer seating positions that may contain out-of-specification components manufactured by the supplier.  These components can cause interference within the latch channel, potentially increasing friction, particularly under cold ambient temperatures. Improperly produced seat belt buckles, combined with slow insertion of the seat belt tongue plate, may prevent the seat belt buckle from fully latching. The recall remedy is currently under development. In view of Hyundai’s recall action, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation, but will continue to monitor the issue as a remedy is developed and implemented. ODI will take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

On August 15, 2022, Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) filed a safety recall (NHTSA Recall 22V-627) of 122,919 model year (MY) 2020-2021 Hyundai Palisade vehicles produced from April 10, 2019 to November 30, 2020. This recall addressed windshield wipers that may function intermittently or stop functioning when impeded by the accumulation of snow and/or ice at the bottom of the windshield. Intermittent or inoperative windshield wipers could reduce driver visibility while operating the vehicle in inclement weather, increasing the risk of a crash. On December 2, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Recall Query (RQ) after receiving 6 consumer complaints alleging windshield wiper failures while driving during wintry precipitation in MY 2021-2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles (subject vehicles). These vehicles were excluded from Recall 22V-627. At the time of opening the RQ, the root cause and recall remedy were still unknown and under investigation. Thus, the RQ was opened to assess the scope and remedy of Recall 22V-627.In its February 10, 2023 response to ODI's information request on the RQ, Hyundai provided 17 customer complaints and 75 warranty claims related to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. Hyundai stated that the wiper systems in the subject vehicles are equipped with a different wiper motor design than the earlier-built Palisade vehicles included in Recall 22V-627. Hyundai also stated it does not believe there is an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety in the wiper system in subject vehicles. On March 17, 2023, Hyundai filed a new safety recall (NHTSA Recall 23V-180) of 167,085 MY 2021-2023 Palisade vehicles produced from December 1, 2020 to November 22, 2022 when a design change was implemented. The design change, as well as the recall remedy (for both Recalls 22V-627 and 23V-180), is a redesigned driver-side wiper arm that allows for additional snow accumulation between the wiper arm and the cowl, thus reducing the load on the wiper motor and circuit breaker activation. In view of the recall action being taken by Hyundai, ODI is closing this RQ. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. The ODI complaints cited above can be viewed at NHTSA.gov under the following ODI identification numbers:11521365, 11517359, 11512295, 11509965, 11509253, 11508868, 11502146, 11501278, 11497343, 11494119, 11458548, 11450975, 11450045, 11449381, 11443330.
