The seatbelts in the second passenger captains chairs will appear to be latched/locked in, and then when driving will unlatch. We have our daughters tug on them to assure proper locking and they will appear locked and still come unlatched frequently while we are driving. This problem has been going on and off since we owned the vehicle. It definitely puts the safety of our children at risk as they seatbelts clearly have a defect and I'm scared to think what would happen if this occurred during a car wreck. It often cannot be reproduced, which is why we haven't taken it to a dealer. There's no rhyme or reason as to when/why it occurs. It probably happens 3-4 times per month. In reading on-line forums with other owners of this vehicle, dealers are not willing to fix it due to its inconsistency. The seatbelts warning light does not always come on when this happens.

Due to a recall that Hyundai has not fully resolved, I am unable to use the OEM tow hitch that I paid for when I purchased my car because there is not an updated fuse for the trailer hitch. Hence, trailers won't have lights, making them illegal and unsafe. The Hyundai dealership "resolved" the recall by removing the fuse several months ago, but never replaced it. Furthermore, the dealership never told me that I was unable to use the tow hitch. I was only told that the recall was resolved.

Research indicates KNOWN ISSUE with 2020-2021 Hyundai Palisades - TSB22-SS-001H issued for PART of the problem but no recall. Hyundai clearly knows about it but not issuing needed recall because it is a warranty item, hoping customers don't realize it until out of warranty. Mine still in warranty, 48K miles. Rear- self leveling shocks appear to be the issue along with upper insulator piece. See Forum: [XXX] ) Another KNOWN ISSUE with cracking windshields same model. Mine cracked [XXX] while parked under cover - no apparent cause, Hyundai wanted over 1K to replace - had to use insurance to replace it. Current mileage is 51,130. When slowing down to come to a stop;the engine shakes, vehicle stalls out, cuts off, and goes into park. No service or warnings lights where on the dash. I am able to re-start the engine after it stalls out. This has happened several times and now the engine is shaking and trying to idle down under normal driving conditions. There is also a tapping sound coming from the engine. Thankfully there was not much traffic the times the engine stalled, but this could have been a dangerous situation. If this would have happened during high traffic, a crash would have been inevitable. I went to my Hyundai dealership and service rep Chance (unsure of his last name), took vehicle for a test drive and he experienced above mentioned issues. The dealership was unable to give me a service appointment due to being very busy. No available appointments until May 13, 2024. I have viewed several Hyundai Palisade forums online where several people have had the same issue with the 2020-2021 Palisade from the engine having excessive oil consumption issues. If this is a known problem, Hyundai needs to make an effort to rectify it.

PE24021 · Inadvertent Seat Belt Unlatch

Opened Aug 7, 2024 · Closed Dec 12, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Seat Belts

On August 7, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE24021 to investigate complaints alleging inadvertent unlatching of seat belts in model year (MY) 2020-2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles manufactured by Hyundai Motor America. The complaints alleged that, without warning, the seat belts sometimes inadvertently unlatch, increasing the risk of injury due to full loss of seat belt protection in the event of a crash. As a result of information exchanged as part of the investigation, on April 3, 2025, Hyundai initiated a warranty extension policy for seat belt buckles on model year 2020-2025 Palisade vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.  Hyundai subsequently initiated a request for warranty parts returns to support further analysis by the buckle supplier, ZF Lifetec. The warranty extension (reference “Z06”) noted that certain 2020 – 2025 model year Palisade vehicles may experience abnormal seat belt buckle(s) operation.   Hyundai extended the warranty coverage for the seat belt buckle under this condition to 15 years/150,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the date of original retail delivery or date of first use.  This action is valid for original and subsequent owners. On September 11, 2025, Hyundai filed recall 25V-607 for certain 2020-2025 Hyundai Palisade vehicles.  Hyundai explained in its recall filing that the subject vehicles are equipped with seat belt buckle assemblies in the front row and second row outer seating positions that may contain out-of-specification components manufactured by the supplier.  These components can cause interference within the latch channel, potentially increasing friction, particularly under cold ambient temperatures. Improperly produced seat belt buckles, combined with slow insertion of the seat belt tongue plate, may prevent the seat belt buckle from fully latching. The recall remedy is currently under development. In view of Hyundai’s recall action, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation, but will continue to monitor the issue as a remedy is developed and implemented. ODI will take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
