The tubing that is used to connect the windshield washer reservoir to the nozzles that deliver the washer fluid to the windshield is prone to rodent activity. This tubing has been punctured by rodents twice now - with one intervening tube replacement. I have to replace the tubing again today. It has been less than two weeks since I last replaced the tubing. The replacement tubing was purchased from a Hyundai dealership. It appears that this will be an ongoing issue that will impact the operational safety of the vehicle.

I purchased a 2024 Ionic 5 on January 29th on a day without rain/snow. The first time it rained I found out that there was no rear wiper. I assumed there to be one as its a SUV with a slanted back window, not straight up and down. When it rains or snows the water/snow just sits on the back window, making it impossible to see out the back window. I know every Ionic 5 is like this. On researching the 2025's now have them due to customer feedback. I don't believe this is a convenience issue, but a safety one not being able to see out the back window.

I took my 2024 limited Ioniq 5 to the dealership [XXX] to have a TSB looked at and because on [XXX], I took out the cabin air filter out of the car, as I have been noticing a smell of chemical in the cabin of the car. I noticed that the filter was covered in blue windshield wiper fluid and smelled of the same chemical smell as what my wife and I had been smelling and what I believe has been giving us headaches on long trips when driving to San Antonio, Texas to visit our grandson over the last two months. The Technicians at the Hyundai Dealership where I took my car had conducted an inspection and found the filter was covered in windshield fluid and noted that it is most likely caused by a defect in manufacturing or design within the vents where the fluid drains. Which also means that rainwater or water from washing the car could also be going into the cabin air filter housing. The dealership informed me that they have taken pictures and will forward to Hyundai as part of the process however they believe that this could result in a recall, as they noted that there is not a fix, they can provide to stop the fluid from going into the housing and that it is a health risk among other things. They noted that they believe this to be on the new 2024 models as they have not had the issue on the 2022-2023 models. I am concerned that drivers such as myself are being exposed to the effects of inhaling these fluids which include Headaches, blurred vision, vomiting and other unpleasant effects related to inhaling the vapors from this fluid. I only have this one car and cannot simply avoid driving it in weather where I would have to use my wipers and fluid. I would like to have this defect corrected ASAP to avoid any long-term health effects. The dealership was unable to provide a loaner vehicle and I have to wait until Hyundai is able to work a solution or more people complain about it. PE23011 · Loss Of Motive Power

Opened Jun 8, 2023 · Closed Apr 17, 2024

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Electrical SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V Battery; Electrical System:propulsion System:dc/dc Converter

On June 8, 2023, the Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) opened PE23011 to investigate allegations of loss of motor power on model year (MY) 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles. Some consumers reported loss of motor power immediately after a warning lamp illumination or reduction of motive power while the vehicle was in motion. This investigation found that the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may be subject to various conditions such as overcurrent, overvoltage induced at the end of charging, and certain thermal loading during operation that can damage its internal components and open the ICCU fuse, resulting in an inability to charge the 12-volt battery. The vehicle could eventually lose all motive power, increasing the risk of a crash. In July 2023, Hyundai issued a service campaign to address certain MY 2022-2023 Ioniq 5 and MY 2023 Ioniq 6 vehicles that may have low 12V auxiliary battery charging occurrences due to an ICCU fault and may set the DTC P1A9096 “DC/DC Converter Input Voltage Sensor Fault”. On March 15, 2024, Hyundai filed Safety Recall 24V-204 for 98,878 MY 2022-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 vehicles and MY 2023-2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6, Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70 “Electrified” and Genesis G80 “Electrified” vehicles. The recall remedy provides an inspection, and if necessary, a replacement of the ICCU and the associated fuse. The ICCU software reduces the risk of overcurrent and implements voltage peak reduction at the end of EV battery charging. The recall also includes a software update that revises the electric water pump operational threshold to reduce thermal loading during charging and driving. In view of the recall action being taken by Hyundai, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
