2017 Honda Civic

The fuel injectors failed at 73,000miles. It can be inspected at a Honda dealership for their hourly labor rate. The car starts to display the following warning messages and lights; Emission system problem, Brake system problem, Brake hold system problem, Power steering system (EPS) problem, vehicle stability assist (VSA) problem, Hill start assist problem and then it goes into limp mode. I couldn’t safely drive on the interstate highway I drive everyday to and from work. It is dangerous to be driving 70+mph and suddenly not be able to drive even 15mph. I have to merge through 4 lanes of traffic and I’m losing speed and power. I have to put my hazard lights on and other drivers are swerving around me and beeping their horns (and worse) at me. I bought a second set of injectors from a Honda dealership and they confirmed that they knew there are issues. This set lasted just over 18months (about 55,000miles). At that point the following warning messages and lights started coming on; Emission system problem, Brake system problem, Brake hold system problem, Power steering system (EPS) problem, vehicle stability assist (VSA) problem, Hill start assist problem and then it would begin going into limp mode again. I went back to the same Honda dealership to talk to them about this issue and they said Honda has a new part number and they cannot order the same injectors I currently have (my second set) and they couldn’t explain the difference between the “old part #” injectors and the “new part #” injectors. So they ordered me a new set and warned me that they are on back order and there is a list of people who have also ordered. I have been waiting for almost 2 months now and frequently call to inquire on the status of my order and they say they cannot tell me anything because they have not heard from Honda and have no information about the status of any of the orders.

My 2017 Honda civic has been having steering issues for a while. It’s very hard to keep straight on a highway and it feels like my steering is sticking when trying to correct myself in a lane on highway. No warning lights on the dash or anything like that.The problem started off minor and not noticeable but now it’s really bad to where I’m swerving left and right on the highway trying to keep straight but it’s almost impossible. It makes me feel unsafe and uncomfortable when driving. It almost feels like I’m going to get pulled over for looking like a drunk driver. I took the car to my local car Honda dealership and explained my problem to them and also told them my opinion saying it might be a steering rack issue since I see multiple problems that people post online with the same generation Civic. So they take my car in and run some test and say my car is all good and that they couldn’t replicate the problem. I think the most they did was align my car again which wasn’t really off. I take my car back and started driving for another week until I took the car back to Honda to see if they could take a look again because it just didn’t feel right. The second time I took it, same thing. Told me they couldn’t recreate the problem. I’m not sure if they checked the steering rack or not because I wasn’t told that they did and I’m assuming they didn’t because they would have to drop the whole front subframe. At that point I honestly didn’t know what to do. I tried taking it to a different shop (pep boys) to see if they could find anything and they couldn’t.

This car has 56,817 miles and in just the last 500 miles or so, we have noticed that the steering wheel seems to get “sticky” or “notchy” after driving for longer drives—maybe over 20-30 minutes. I don’t notice it on my short 10 minute drive to work. It seems to happen while driving straight. The steering wheel seems to get stuck making little steering adjustments jerky and causing frequent overcorrections instead of smooth steering. It’s annoying to a little unsettling, especially at higher speeds. I haven’t had it checked at the dealer but am an import auto mechanic of over 25 years.

2017 Honda Civic experiences random reduced steering maneuverability while driving. Steering wheel becomes briefly stuck in one direction while turning, usually requiring over-steering to correct the issue. Steering wheel becomes less responsive and difficult to turn. Vehicle is available for inspection. Problem has not been confirmed by dealership. No lights or messages displayed on dash or digital console.

At high speeds (over 55mph) the steering feels notchy and sticky. While making a long highway turn my steering wheel will stick turning in that direction until I correct. I do not have lane assist tech on board but this needs to solved. It’s inconsistent which could potentially proved to be dangerous or fatal. I just noticed this at 117k miles but have seen reports of some lower mileage. I’m scared to drive my vehicle.

1) What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? ANS: The steering sticks. Yes, it is available for inspection upon request. 2) How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? ANS: By overcompensating when changing lanes. This condition arises on Interstate driving. It has happened since I bought the car. Would have to research dates and mileage. Date/mileage shown below is approximate. 3) Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? ANS: Not to my knowledge. I mentioned it to Honda Cars of Katy 6/1/23. 4) Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? ANS: No. Honda does not acknowledge a problem. 5) Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? ANS: No. There are no warning signals when this occurs.

The steering on my 2017 Honda Civic frequently sticks while driving making it difficult to steer. I purchased the used vehicle along with an extended warranty from Carvana in 2020. I noticed the stickiness in the steering after having the vehicle for a week and I took the vehicle to an independent service center to have the issue repaired in 2020. They were unable to diagnose the problem and the stickiness persisted intermittently (about 50%- 60% of the time while driving). Since then, the frequency of intermittent stickiness in the steering has increased (about 90%-95% of the time while driving). I am concerned about the risk of an accident on an interstate or highway while traveling at speeds in excess of 55 mph. When steering around an extended curve or corner on the road, the steering will stick and I have to jerk the steering wheel in the opposite direction to unstick the steering and course-correct. This causes the vehicle to swerve a bit and affects the handling of the vehicle. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

Keyless entry problem on my car. I was unable to get into my car and when I used the key from the fob to enter the car, the car wouldn't start. I was stranded and needed to call for help. The car was jumped and started again to get it back to my house. In the morning, the car wouldn't start again so was towed to a local mechanic in my town called Desert Dawg and they were able to start the car again and it drove for about a week and then the same problem happened. They put in a new battery and worked again for about a week. The car then would start but wouldn't shut off without disconnecting the battery. Then one night the car just started beeping uncontrollably and the car would not shut off the beeping and key fob not recognized. Towed back to Desert Dawg and said it was a keyless entry problem but the part he needed to fix it was on National Shortage and could take 7 months or more to get the part. He told me to take it to the Honda Dealership to see if they could help me. Car towed again to Honda dealership and they said it was a keyless entry problem and the part called a body control module with Part number: 38809-TBC-A31 was on back order and on National shortage and the part may not arrive for 7 months or longer or never. I now have no car to get to work. I called the Honda Corporation and got the same answer of this part being on national shortage. How can people be left stranded. I live in Arizona and the temperatures get very hot and people could die if their car doesn't start. Please address this issue. thanks.

Car has a faulty board control module. Car randomly starts itself in accessory mode, even when key fob is not present or batteries are removed. Other times, car will click and not turn on, or show random error messages. Car will intermittently not start; shows “keyless start system problem.” Car alarm randomly goes off. Car will intermittently not turn off once started. Internet search reveals multiple other individuals with the same problem, sometimes covered under warranty and other times not. Honda of America is sometimes helpful and other times, not. Problems are intermittent and difficult to reproduce, necessitating additional diagnostics by dealers. Among other problems reported are problems with door locks, windshield wipers, and headlights. I have concerns that the electrical problems will lead to serious safety issues, such as: lights turning on or off while driving; inability to turn off ignition in an emergency; wipers not working during rain (wet conditions seem to correlate to more problems, for other drivers and for me, suggesting an issue with corrosion), or getting locked into/out of the vehicle in an emergency.
