My 2017 Genesis G80 3.8L, VIN [XXX], has approximately 43,840 miles and intermittently slips or shifts improperly between approximately third and fifth gears while driving and causes harsh jolts forward. Jenkins Genesis confirmed the condition, stated that the transmission was slipping from the 3–5 clutch area, and recommended complete transmission replacement. The malfunction is unpredictable and creates a risk of sudden loss or interruption of propulsion while merging, crossing an intersection, changing lanes or driving at highway speed. A driver may press the accelerator but not receive the expected forward power. A [XXX] infant is regularly transported in the vehicle. The vehicle also has a faulty right-front ABS wheel-speed sensor, a passenger seat-belt safety-system communication fault, and intermittent electrical or sensor warnings. Genesis TSB 21-AT-010HG-1 applies specifically to the 2017 G80 and addresses shift flare or harsh shifting during the 2–3, 3–4 and 4–5 shifts. It requires transmission-solenoid, wiring-harness and fluid inspection procedures. TSB 19-AT-014HG also addresses harsh or delayed shifting in 2017–2018 G80 vehicles and provides electronic shift-data testing. The written repair estimate does not establish whether all applicable TSB diagnostic procedures were completed. The model also has electrical recall history, including NHTSA recalls 24V-107 and 21V-161. I am not claiming the recalls caused the transmission failure, but the concurrent transmission, ABS, seat-belt and electrical faults warrant investigation. I request that NHTSA examine similar G80 complaints involving slipping, shift flare, delayed shifting and loss of propulsion.
