This vehicle experienced an engine overheating failure while driving, five days after a cooling-system repair (radiator hoses, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs) had been completed at the dealership. The dashboard displayed an explicit "Engine has overheated" warning, and the vehicle could not continue to be driven. The vehicle was returned to the dealership. Per their own written statement, there were "no signs of engine damage related to the overheating concern" at that time. The vehicle's own mileage record shows it did not leave the dealership's lot for nearly a month afterward, despite a written claim that the shop foreman had personally test driven it before release. After that release, a fractured metal bracket was found in the engine compartment near the serpentine belt, along with multiple additional loose, missing, or unseated fasteners throughout the engine bay. The dealership's technician stated he had no reason to have inspected that area. The cause of the fracture and the discrepancy with the technician's account have not been resolved. Separately, the vehicle's Lane Keeping Assistance/Lane Departure Warning system has been non-functional, was twice described by the dealership's technician as "working," and both times disproven by independent testing showing the system displaying "system off." The vehicle has also been producing smoke while driving and idling, consistent with a fluid leak burning off a hot engine component, accompanied by a worsening chemical/exhaust-like odor in the cabin, not yet diagnosed. This is reported given the overheating history, the undiagnosed cabin odor with possible carbon monoxide exposure risk, and engine-bay damage discovered following dealership service, in case relevant to safety monitoring of this repair pattern.

While driving the engine simply stops and won't restart. When this happens, the key fob won't lock the car or unlock the trunk. The trunk opening button won't open the trunk. It just flashes the parking light and gives a sound.

At 63,230 miles the engine oil pressure light would illuminate on my 2017 Genesis G80. I took it to the dealer and the technician found the oil pressure switch on my car went bad and in the words of the mechanic was leaking internally. This is a known issue by Genesis/Hyundai as they are performing repairs in Korea (where this vehicle is built and assembled) for this very problem. But in America they are refusing to honor the warranty which under powertrain is valid for 10 years/100,000 miles. Proper function of the engine is clearly a part of the powertrain. The warranty further goes on to state that under engine, "gaskets and seals" are covered. The repairs I had to have performed at great expense for a failed oil pressure switch seemed clear to me under the warranty. Not only a known issue and covered where the car is made, but they seem to know they have a huge issue based on Genesis Forums and their complaints the numbers are large; they don't want to have to make it right for the owners.

The hyundai genesis and the genesis G80 have an oil pressure sensor defect. Practically, everyone i know with a genesis, in particular the 3.8 L engine, has this issue. I stressed to them that I was worried about my car and that I have a child that is always in the car with me. They told me to keep looking on google and that google would tell me when there is a fix. I would like a different car or my money back but it seems like they will not do that for me.
