2002 EXPLORER STARTED OUT WITH ALOT OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND NOW DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH YOU PUSH IN THE GAS PEDAL THE TRANSMISSION STARTS SLIPPING. JUST LIKE ALOT OF OTHER COMPLAINTS. I KNOW OF OVER 900 CASES OF THIS FIRST HAND AND SOMEONE NEEDS TO GET FORD OFF THEIR BUTT AND DO SOMETHING. NOONE CAN KEEP PUTTING OUT 3500.00 FOR A REBUILT TRANS WHILE THEIR STILL PAYING ON THE VEHICLES. ALL OF THEM GO BAD RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY RUNS OUT. BEING IN LAW ENFORCEMENT I SEE THIS EVERY DAY AND ITS NOT SAGE FOR FAMILY'S IN THESE VEHICLES. IF SOMETHING ISN'T DONE ASAP SOMEONE GOING TO GET HURT OR DIE. THEY SLIP ALL THE TIME WHEN YOU BACK UP YOUR SITTING IN THE ROAD FOR 10 SECONDS WAITING FOR IT TO GO IN DRIVE THEN DRIVE SLIPS UNTIL YOU GET TO 35 MILES AN HOUR THEN THEIR FINE UNTIL YOU STOP AGAIN. CALL FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY JUST SAY SORRY CANT HELP YOU SHOULD HAVE GOT THE EXTRA WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE. MY FIRST CAR WAS A 2000 FORD EXPLORER AND I COULD NOT BE MORE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH I HAVE HAD THE CAR NOW FOR A FEW YEARS, IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THERE HAVE BEEN SOME MINOR ISSUES WITH THE CAR THAT ARE EXPECTED WITH NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. HOWEVER AT ONLY ABOUT 60,000 MILES I STARTED HAVING VERY BAD TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THE O/D LIGHT FLASHES NEARLY EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR AND THE TRANSMISSION (AUTOMATIC) SKIPS EVERY TIME AFTER FIRST GEAR. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I REALIZED THAT THIS IS NOT A RANDOM OCCURRENCE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS FORD EXPLORER OWNERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM AND FORD HAS YET TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND HELP FIX THIS PROBLEM. I INITIALLY THOUGHT THAT IT WAS JUST MY CAR POSSIBLY GETTING OLD, HOWEVER AFTER SPENDING HOURS RESEARCHING MY PROBLEM I QUICKLY REALIZED THAT THIS IS NOT AN AGE ISSUE. I ALSO DO NOT HAVE THAT MANY MILES ON MY CAR. UNFORTUNATELY I DO NOT HAVE THE $2000+ TO COMPLETELY REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION WHICH APPARENTLY SEEMS TO BE MY ONLY OPTION. IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE EVERY TIME I TURN IT ON AND START DRIVING THESE PROBLEMS OCCUR. *TR

II PURCHASED A 2003 EXPLORER, 2-11-03. KEPT HAVING PROBLEMS SHIFTING OUT OF REVERSE, AND FINALLY, 3-8-04, AND AGAIN, 9-13-04, AND WAS TOLD BY DEALER THE PROBLEM WAS NOT VALID, AND WOULD EVENTUALLY GO AWAY, WITH NO DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. I CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS, ON AND OFF, AND NOW HAVE OVER 89,000 MILES ON VEHICLE, AND IT IS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE. SOMETIMES, I HAVE TO CONTINUE CUTTING THE ENGINE OFF, RESTART, AND KEEP TRYING TO GET THE TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT OUT OF REVERSE. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION, EITHER FROM FORD, OR DEMPEWOLF, THE DEALER. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, BUT, ENOUGH TO MAKE ME NERVOUS THAT ONE DAY IT MIGHT NOT BACK UP AT ALL. WHEN IT DOES SHIFT, THE FORCE ALMOST THROW ME OUT OF THE SEAT. IT IS A SCARY SITUATION. I ALWAYS TOOK MY VEHICLE TO DEMPWOLF FOR SERVICING, AND TO TRY AND GET THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM RECTIFIED. I HAVE MY MAINTENANCE RECEIPTS, ALL OF THEM! *TR
TRANSMISSION LEVER DID NOT WANT TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. EVENTUALLY, IT DID RELEASE, BUT THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE. THERE ARE ALSO TIMES WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE IT DOES NOT FEEL LIKE THE LEVER IS FULLY "SEATED" INTO THE CORRECT POSITION. *TR
