CAR LOST ALL DRIVING FUNCTION WHILE IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET. IT BASICALLY DIED. THE SHIFTER ALWAYS SHOWS AN ERROR OF "NOT IN PARK" WHEN THE CAR IS IN FACT IN PARK.

WHEN I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK IT DISPLAYS THE "TRANSMISSION NOT IN PARK" LIGHT. WHEN THIS DISPLAYS YOU CANNOT LOCK DOORS PROPERLY. THE ONLY WAY TO ADJUST THIS IS TO EITHER TAP THE GEAR SHIFT BUTTON FOR STANDARD DRIVE OR RESTART AND KILL THE CAR. SOMETIMES IT WORKS AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING OFF AND ON SINCE 30,000 MILES BUT OUT OF THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY. I AM BEING TOLD THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE SHIFTER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM . THEY ALSO TELL ME IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR.

WHEN PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK IT DOES NOT REGISTER THE PARK POSITION. AFTER TURNING IT OFF IT PULLED FORWARD, BUT NORMALLY IT WILL STAY PARKED. I HAVE A VIDEO OF THE PARK NOT ENGAGING, BUT IT IS BIGGER THAN 5 MB. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS, WILL BE TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP.

ON APRIL 3, 2018, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2014 FORD EDGE. AS SHE WAS ENTERING A CURVE AT 35 MPH, THE 'LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON' AND SHE IMMEDIATELY LOST THE CAPABILITY TO EASILY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, AND THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN RAPIDLY. FORTUNATELY, SHE WAS NOT ON A FREEWAY OR SHE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. SHE REALIZED THAT EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT WORK. I CALLED PLANET FORD IN HOUSTON WHERE WE PURCHASED THE CAR AND I ROUTINELY HAVE THE CAR MAINTAINED. ANTHONY, THE QUICK LANE MANAGER, TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR IN. BY THEN, WE HAD CHECKED THE INTERNET FOR SIMILAR OCCURRENCES AND WE HAD FOUND THAT THERE HAD BEEN THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR REPORTS AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS PAID BY FORD IN LAWSUITS. ANTHONY TOLD ME THAT HE WOULD FIX THE CAR AT NO COST AFTER I EXPLAINED THE DETAILS AND TOLD HIM THAT THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A 'RECALL ISSUE'. THEY HAD SERVICED THE CAR LESS ONE MONTH EARLIER. ON TUESDAY, APRIL 10TH, I CALLED AND FOUND THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN MOVED TO THE REGULAR SERVICE AREA. IT STILL WAS NOT FIXED. BRAD ZOOK, THE SERVICE MANAGER, TOLD ME THAT I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH I TOLD HIM THAT ANTHONY SAID IT WOULD BE FREE.LATER THAT DAY, IT WAS 'REPAIRED' AND WE PICKED UP THE CAR. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE 'ETB' WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THE INTERNET REFERRED TO. I CALLED BRAD ON WEDNESDAY AND ASKED HOW THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM. HE SAID IT WAS A COMBINATION OF CODES (STRANGE) AND MY DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM. HOW DO I KNOW THAT THIS WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN, OR SOME OTHER MALFUNCTION THAT WASN'T A RECALL, WILL HAPPEN NEXT!?

I HAVE INFREQUENT LINKAGE CONCERNS WHILE TRAVELING AT SLOWER SPEEDS USUALLY IN PARKING LOT TYPE TRAFFIC WHERE BRAKING AND LIGHT ACCELERATION ARE CONSTANT. AFTER COASTING, IN DRIVE, THERE IS A SLIGHT HESITATION WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED, THEN A NOTICEABLE, SOMETIMES HARD, ENGAGEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION.

Nov 10, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Explorer, 2014-2015 Taurus and 2014 Edge vehicles equipped with 2.0L or 2.3L engines and front wheel drive. The support bracket for the front drive axle halfshaft may fail.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: The failed bracket could result in a loss of park function which can cause unintended vehicle movement, and loss of motive power while driving which increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the link shaft bracket, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. Owners received an interim notification detailing safety risk December 8, 2020. A second letter will be mailed when parts become available in January 2021. The recall began February 2, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S63.

Jan 9, 2015

Ford Motor Company (Ford) notified the agency on January 8, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2014 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured April 15, 2014, to May 8, 2014, and 2015 Lincoln MKC vehicles manufactured April 21, 2014, to May 15, 2014. On April 30, 2015, Ford expanded the recall to cover an additional 45,505 vehicles, including certain model year 2014-2015 Ford Transit Connect vehicles manufactured November 11, 2013, to August 29, 2014, 2014-2015 Ford Fiesta vehicles manufactured April 10, 2014, to June 17, 2014 and 2014 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured April 30, 2014, to May 21, 2014. Improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in the fuel pump failing.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. The recall began on February 27, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S30.

14V393000 · Power Train:axle Assembly:axle Shaft

Jul 2, 2014

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 2, 2010, to November 30, 2013; 2013-2014 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured August 25, 2011, to November 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles manufactured September 12, 2011, to November 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S10.

PE15020 · Wheel Separation

Opened May 20, 2015 · Closed Jan 4, 2016

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Wheels:rim

On November 29, 2014, ODI received a complaint reporting the complete separation of an original equipment 22-inch alloy wheel rim mounted on the right front position of a model year 2014 Ford Edge vehicle (VOQ 10661278).The driver indicated that the right-front corner of the vehicle suddenly dropped while driving, causing the vehicle to go off the road to the right and into a field. The right-front wheel rim was found to have broken into two pieces. The owner said that there was no prior warning or wheel related problems with the vehicle. The vehicle had been driven approximately 8,500 miles at the time of the incident. On May 29, 2015 ODI sent an information request to Ford asking for detailed information related to the specific 22 inch alloy wheel used on the Edge as well as any peer vehicles which used the same type of wheel. On July 17, 2015 Ford provided ODI with the requested information. Ford's search showed that the single incident reported to ODI is the only instance of a wheel failure on the subject or peer vehicles. The failed wheel was sent to the National Transportation Service Board (NTSB) materials analysis laboratory for examination. The NTSB determined that the wheel failed because of a severe impact that caused a crack that rapidly propagated around the circumference of the wheel, The rim fracture surface had a predominantly rough appearance consistent with an overstress fracture (rapid fracture)There were no abnormalities or unique features associated with the fracture initiation site.Metallurgical analysis of the rim found that the material was within specification and no anomalies were identified that could have contributed to the failure.See the full NTSB report for more details.Based on the absence of additional failures and the results of the wheel material testing and failure analysis, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The Agency will continue to monitor complaints and other information relating to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles and take further action in the future if warranted. The following VOQ is associated with this investigation: 10661278
