TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 FORD CLUB WAGON. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT ACTIVATED THE CRUISE CONTROL, WHICH RESULTED IN A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER FOR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF FAILURE WAS THE DISTRIBUTOR AND THEY MADE THE REPLACEMENT. APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED WHEN THE CRUISE …

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 FORD CLUB WAGON. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT ACTIVATED THE CRUISE CONTROL, WHICH RESULTED IN A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER FOR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF FAILURE WAS THE DISTRIBUTOR AND THEY MADE THE REPLACEMENT. APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE DISTRIBUTOR HAD FAILED AGAIN. AS OF JULY 3, 2007, THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 229,000. 06V286000 · Vehicle Speed Control

ON CERTAIN TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH SPEED CONTROL, GASOLINE OR NATURAL GAS ENGINES, THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH MAY OVERHEAT.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: OVERHEATING COULD RESULT IN SMOKE OR BURN AND AN UNDERHOOD FIRE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A FUSED WIRING HARNESS INTO THE SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 7, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-866-436-7332. (NOTE: ALSO SEE RECALLS 05V017 AND 05V388)
