When shifting into park after coming to a stop in a parking space the “SHIFT INTO PARK” warning appeared on the dash. It took driving back and forth between reverse and drive to finally get the car to go into park without the warning indicator.

167 reportsWhen shifting into Park the “Shift to Park” message comes on even though the vehicle is in Park. This problem started about 6 months ago and now happens almost every time we drive it. It is a safety issue because we don’t want to get stranded or not be able to lock the vehicle.
Upon shifting vehicle into park and shutting off vehicle, "SHIFT TO PARK" is displayed on the vehicle information center. Recent purchase of vehicle, owned by me less then 2 weeks and this has occurred multiple times already.
After shifting to Park and turning the vehicle off a message of "Shift to Park" appears on the information screen behind the steering wheel despite the car already being in park.
The transmission is shifted into park mechanism does not work. Can’t turn off the engine.
Computer keeps saying shift into park after the car is in park and I’m trying to shut the car off. I then have to jiggle the throttle into park in order for it to recognize it’s already in park.

The transmission is shifted into park mechanism does not work and is available for inspection. The Shift Into Park notice in the Driver Information Center lights and chimes as long as the system does not believe the transmission is not in park. This will cause the battery to go dead, or in some instances you can't turn off the engine nor leave the vehicle until this error is cleared. It has been confirmed by a dealer (Henna) whose service contact said they had the same problem on their 2019 Traverse plus many, many comments about this problem for this and other GM models which have been posted on the Internet. The vehicle nor the component have been inspected by others, but another dealer will be attempting to fix the problem under one of serveral TSBs created by GM. No other warnings nor symptoms happened before this started.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that after coming to a complete stop and shifting the vehicle into PARK, the "Action Required Shift to Park" warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was turned off however, the instrument panel lights remained powered on. The contact exited the vehicle and an audible alert was sounded indicating that the vehicle was still on and running. The contact was also unable to securely lock the vehicle. The contact was unable to start the vehicle the following day because the battery had drained overnight. The contact stated that the failure occurred three times previously however, the battery had not been drained on those occasions. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer, where it was not yet diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 32,400.

Intermittently after I put the Trans. in park and shut off the engine I get a message to shift trans. to park. I repeat the process of starting and stopping engine and shifting in and out of park several more times. I can't leave the vehicle until the message stops appearing. If I get out and shut the door the radio keeps playing and doors will not automatically lock. I'm concerned that I have an electrical short and might catch fire. I park in a garage at home and could lose my home or life if it caught fire I have an appointment with my dealer 2/7/2022. As of this date I have not reported the issue to anyone. The problem started just before Christmas and stopped for several weeks and now it's back again. There are no pre-warnings before the issue occurs.

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2010-2015, 2017 Buick Enclave, 2010-2019 Chevrolet Traverse, and 2011-2016 GMC Acadia vehicles. The side curtain air bags may not be properly attached.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Unsecured side curtain air bags may not perform as intended, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, realign or replace the weld nuts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 24, 2021. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Chevrolet Cruze and Buick LaCrosse, 2018-2020 Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Terrain, 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, 2019-2020 Buick Encore, Buick Enclave, Cadillac XT4, Chevrolet Blazer and GMC Acadia, and 2020 Cadillac XT6 vehicles. The start/stop accumulator endcap may have missing bolts.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Missing bolts on the start-stop accumulator endcap could result in a transmission oil leak and may progress to a loss of propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. A transmission fluid leak in the presence of an ignition source may increase the risk of fire.
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the start-stop transmission accumulator and replace it if any bolts are missing, free of charge. The recall began December 15, 2020. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267, Buick Customer service at 1-866-608-8080, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006.
