2024 Chevrolet Equinox

Between XXX, a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox RS experienced repeated sudden loss of engine power, throttle control, and steering control at highway speeds. Fuel management system, turbocharger, and catalytic converter failed repeatedly. GM-authorized dealer confirmed defects on multiple warranty repair orders. Breakdown 1: Nov 2024, interstate, rain, nighttime. Vehicle lost power and steering surrounded by semi-trucks on three sides with a ditch on the right. Towed to GM dealer. Breakdown 2: Dec 2024, [XXX], 2 miles from home. Same failure. Semi on driver side, vehicles fast approaching from rear, ditch on right. Crawled under 35 mph for 5 miles to next exit. GM OnStar app confirmed Engine/Transmission and Emissions System warnings. Independent scan confirmed P0299, P0171, P00C6. Check Engine FAIL, Emission Ready NO. Breakdown 3: XXX, [XXX] , 1 AM, winter storm. Same failure. Driver stranded. Sustained burns from superheated hood mechanism and fall injuries on wet pavement. Dealer confirmed turbocharger damage, blocked catalytic converter, and fuel rail pressure failures across multiple visits. On fourth repair attempt, dealer technician documented a component from a prior repair had fallen out and was not caught, directly causing the next breakdown. GM Technical Assistance Center was engaged. Same fault codes recurred across all four repair attempts. MyChevrolet app diagnostics, independent AutoZone scans, and dealer warranty repair orders confirm the recurring defect pattern. Vehicle was repossessed by lender in June 2025 following loan delinquency caused directly by extended repair periods and income loss from recurring defects. Vehicle no longer in owner's possession. The vehicle first experienced a serious malfunction on October 12, 2025, while driving on an expressway at 65 mph, and the same issue recurred on March 8, 2026, while driving on a 6-lane, busy highway at 45 mph. The condition involves the vehicle unexpectedly shutting down, rendering the acceleration pedal useless and causing the car to glide to a complete stop in traffic, creating a significant safety concern and rendering the vehicle unreliable for normal use. The vehicle has been at the Chevrolet dealership since March 8 2026 with them unable to replicate the issue. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem before the failure. I called OnStar both times it happened immediately after the incident, with neither time resulting in any negative results on the report.

The engine failed while driving on the highway on two separate occasions due a fuel pump issue. The first time it happened, it was just reduced power (could only drive maybe 40 miles an hour). I brought it to the dealership and they said that General Motors told them it needs a software update which they completed. However the second time it happened (4 months later) it was full engine shutdown in the left lane on a 65mph highway with my family (including my toddler) in the car. The first time it happened we were able to make it home by driving with the hazard lights on very slowly. But the second time we were doing the 65 mph speed limit in the left lane on a 3 lane highway. To avoid causing a pile up of cars or a deadly accident, we had to use the momentum of the speed we were going to try to safely drift across three lanes of congested traffic just to make it safely to the shoulder. We were then stuck on the side of the highway in the sun on an 80 degree day with a car with no power. I had to remove my two year old from the car so he didn't get heat exhaustion and stand on the side of the highway holding him in the little bit of shade we could find. The car then had to be towed back to my dealership over an hour away because it would not even turn on. The dealership was not able to replicate the issue the first time it happened, but did the software update that the manufacturer recommended. To my knowledge its only been inspected by the dealership. The only warning signs/messages/lights were the ones happening as the engine was failing/shutting down. There was no advanced warning. This care is less than two years old and its a leased vehicle from the dealership down repairs, I work from home there are less than 20k miles on i, this is not neglect on my part or over usage in anyway of the vehicle.

I was on a road trip and halfway through my check engine light came on and notified me that engine power was reduced while on a 70mph highway. My car the slowed itself down to not exceed 45 then 25mph. I was in a remote area and very far away from a Chevy dealership. I was forced to drive for a long distance to make it to a Chevy dealership that was willing to work with me. Come to find out my fuel pump failed and the car is only 2 years old with only 58,000 miles. This same issue happened a few months ago and I was told by my dealership that it was just update codes required by Chevy that did not update correctly. I’ve had several other issues like this and have been told it’s because the new cars are “basically giant computers”. This car also got a new battery after one year because they stated a faulty or crappy manufacturer battery they put it went bad. My local dealership then tried to charge me for it until I reminded them of my warranty. I take my car for regular oil changes under the 6,000 miles to keep my Warranty Forever. I was terrified driving on highway roads when my car wouldn’t exceed the required speed limit causing other motorists to navigate around me all because I needed to make it to a Chevy dealership willing to work with me.

While the vehicle was in park and still running it started sputtering and idling erratically and the engine shut off. While trying to restart, the car was having a hard time starting, eventually starting with the same problem. While driving, the car was sputtering, had reduced engine power, and felt like it was going to shut down. The check engine light was on the entire duration of the incident. This has been a recurring intermittent problem that first occurred approximately three months ago. Car has been to the dealer before but the problem didn’t occur and they were unable to diagnose the issue. When taking the car to the dealership on 09 March, the dealer confirmed the problem and said it was a faulty fuel pump that will cost over $800 to repair. After a brief internet search, I found safety bulletin NS2450160 that includes 2023-2024 Chevy Equinox vehicles for this exact problem but it doesn’t include my VIN.

September 2025, January 2026 and March 2026 on the freeway heading into the caldecut tunnel and the car jerked check engine light came on and the engine went into reduced engine power. All three times the car had to be towed into the dealership, all three times the fuel pump has been replaced. This is a 2024 Equinox. Anyone living in the bay area knows what the traffic is like, my son could have been killed any of these times due to faulty parts being replaced into a new vehicle. Contacted GM and they refuse to buy it back. I see there is a class action suit for faulty fuel pumps but they seem to keep replacing the same faulty parts.

My 2024 Chevy Equinox went into limp mode on 2-15-26 and gave me engine codes P228C and P0089. I encountered limp mode once before this date but no check engine light went on. It lost acceleration while driving. I took it to Henna Chevrolet in Austin, TX and they told me that I am outside of the warranty window even though the vehicle has less than 60K miles. They told me that it would have been under the basic 36,000 mile warranty.

At 5 am in the morning the car suddenly failed and indicated it was an engine or transmission failure in the middle of a four lane major intersection in a downtown area. It was dangerous due to the darkness, and poor visibility. I had to abandon the vehicle as it was dangerous to stay with it while waiting for police. I could have been injured (as could others) due to its sudden failure in the intersection of a busy roadway. Chevrolet dealership states it is the fuel pump driver module. The car is currently at the dealership for repair. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure until the car suddenly lost power. Once it lost power the engine light lit up and shortly after I had exited the vehicle, I began receiving messages from "On Star" telling me that there were engine or transmission problems. Meanwhile I stood in the pouring rain in an unsafe neighborhood, leaning out into traffic to try and stop cars from running head on into my car for over 30 minutes waiting for police.

As I was parked with the car running, my 2024 Equinox suddenly shut down and the check engine light came on. I tried to start it, but it didn’t. Someone tried to jump the battery, thinking it was that, but it wasn’t. I had it towed to the dealership and after 2 days they said the Fuel Pump Power Control Module needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, GM did not have the part, but the dealership found one in another state and we had to wait several days for it to be mailed to them. After a week, once the part was replaced, they tried to start the car and realized that the original issue fried the battery, so they had to replace that as well. I was told that they had seen several customers with the same issue and wouldn’t be surprised if GM eventually issues a recall. They also said they couldn’t be sure the replacement part wouldn’t have the same issue. I did some research and found that GM has had this issue with 2019 - 2024 vehicles. Some customers reported that they were driving and almost got hit by other vehicles when theirs shut down. My car only had 18000 miles when this occurred. I no longer feel safe driving my car.
