The contact then pressed the Off button to turn off the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to turn off until the battery was completely drained. The vehicle was jumpstarted and taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The battery was recharged. When attempting to close an open sunroof, something failed and the sunroof will no longer move. I had to drive 2 hours at highway speeds with the open panoramic sunroof, which caught a lot of air and which I was worried would blow off or be damaged by debris since it was now raised up and exposed. A mechanic has looked at the sunroof and is unable to operate it manually or electronically. Alfa Romeo does not have a manual method to close the sunroof in case of failure, and the electric motor only makes a flapping sound when used, as if the cable connecting the motor and the sunroof had snapped. There were no warnings or indications that anything was wrong or that any issues were developing. I normally do not use the sunroof and opened it for the first time when this happened. The cost to repair this issue seems excessive, on par with a full turbocharger replacement.

Something very similar happened back in May of 2022. The Alfa Romeo dealer replaced the fuel pump in September/October of 2022. Stalling happened again yesterday. This is a very dangerous and known issue and Alfa Romeo manufacturer is not doing any recall or addressing this issue. Yesterday’s incident would have custard an accident which would have lead to injuries or even worse fatality When I called Alfa Romeo manufacturer’s customer service all they had to say was that the vehicle is not under warranty and they won’t cover the repairs. Please do a major recall on Alfa Romeo vehicles and make the manufacturers be responsible for the issue and make them to do a recall & repair. This is a very serious issue with Alfa Romeo cars. On 7/13/2023 while driving at about 40 mph with a half tank of gas the engine shut down and the car rolled to a stop. It took about 3 or 4 tries to restart the car over a span of 10 minutes. I initiated an out of warranty claim through the dealer because I believe this is a quality defect, during follow-up correspondance I learnt from dealer that the manufacturer acknowledged this is a known issue. Online vehicle owner communities have also had numerious reports on similar failure, some of which left the sunroof open and vehicle undrivable. The manufacturer agreed to cover 50% of repair cost but had declined to cover the repair in full.

Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the fuel delivery module, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed October 7, 2025. The tire pressure and size information on the tire placard and manufacturer labels are incorrect. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Incorrect tire information can result in under-inflated tires or installing the incorrect-size tires, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: FCA will mail corrected tire placards and manufacturer overlay labels. Owners may bring the labels into a dealer for free installation. On January 8, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation (PE24003) to assess allegations of loss of motive power resulting from low-pressure fuel pump failures in certain MY 2017–2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia vehicles. The subject vehicles are equipped with 2.0L 4-cylinder and 2.9L 6-cylinder turbocharged engines and manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US LLC (FCA US). Reports received by ODI alleged stall and loss of motive power at speeds above 25 mph, with several reporting that the condition resulted in permanent disablement of the vehicle. Many reports described recurrence of the failure after an initial repair. During the investigation, ODI determined that the subject vehicles were equipped with fuel delivery pumps supplied by Vitesco Technologies Germany GmbH. ODI also confirmed that MY 2018–2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio vehicles were equipped with the same pump. ODI’s analysis identified an elevated failure rate associated with the original pumps installed in the subject vehicles. The failure mode involves interruption of fuel flow, resulting in fuel starvation and an unexpected loss of motive power, typically with little to no advance warning. In responses to ODI Information Requests submitted in April and June 2024, FCA US reported 2,162 customer reports (complaints, field reports, and legal claims) and 464 warranty claims related to the alleged defect. Combined with ODI’s data, the investigation identified 1,900 unique VIN experiencing failures. Review of the combined data confirmed one crash and no injuries, fatalities, or fires. On September 9, 2025, FCA US filed recall 25V-586, covering 29,467 MY 2017–2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia vehicles and 24,382 MY 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio vehicles, all equipped with the suspect Vitesco fuel delivery pump. FCA US reported that the remedy is under development, with dealer notifications planned on or about September 16, 2025, and owner notifications scheduled to begin on or about October 29, 2025. The recall action initiated by FCA US addresses the alleged defect identified in this PE. Accordingly, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances, including an evaluation of the remedy once available.
