YAMAHA FOR 2013 REDESIGNED THE FRONT PLASTIC COWLING IN A MANNER THAT PROHIBITS THE USER OF THE MOTORCYCLE TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE BATTERY OR FUSES. THIS IS A SAFETY AND MANUFACTURING DEFECT. YAMAHA HAS RELEASED A "TECH EXCHANGE" TO DEALERS REQUIRING THE OWNER TO PAY FOR A NEW PLASTIC COWLING AND LABOR. THE TECH EXCHANGE NUMBER IS "M2013-13 10/25/13". I FEEL THAT YAMAHA SHOULD PAY FOR THIS DEFECT UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED AND THEY SAID NO. IT COST ME $188.10 AT MY LOCAL DEALER TO HAVE THIS PLASTIC REPLACED. YAMAHA CUSTOMER RELATIONS NUMBER IS 800/962-7926 , OPTION 0. THIS IS MY SECOND FJR1300 MOTORCYCLE PURCHASED FROM THEM, THAT DID NOT SEEM TO MATTER.

20V814000 · Exterior Lighting:brake Lights:switch

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain 2018-2020 MTT9GT (Tracer GT), 2019 MXTGTKL (NIKEN GT), 2017-2020 MT10, 2018-2020 XTZ12 (Super Ténéré), 2013-2020 FJR13, 2018 XV19B (Star Eluder), and 2018-2021 XV19 (Star Venture) motorcycles. The front brake switch can fail due to increased resistance from silicon oxide.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Failure of the front brake switch can cause the brake light to stay on constantly and/or the cruise control system to shutoff unexpectedly. Both situations increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Yamaha will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake switch, free of charge. The recall began January 20, 2021. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha's number for this recall is 990140. Note: Owners are advised not to operate their motorcycle until the repairs have been performed.
