IN THE 1999 VW NEW BEETLE, THE FRONT (BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER) HEAD RESTRAINT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT DOES NOT ALLOW THE RESTRAINT TO DROP DOWN TO THE TOP OF THE SEAT CREATING INSUFFICIENT HEAD PROTECTION ESPECIALLY FOR SHORTER PEOPLE. BOTH 1998 AND 2000 VW NEW BEETLE MODELS ALLOW THE HEAD RESTRAINTS TO BE ADJUSTED ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP OF THE SEAT. ONLY THE 1999 MODEL HAS THIS PROBLEM. I HAD CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO COULD NOT PROVIDE ME WITH AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY ONLY THE 1999 MODEL WAS DESIGNED THIS WAY. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE. ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH MAY MALFUNCTION.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: IF THIS HAPPENS, THE BRAKE LAMPS COULD BECOME INOPERATIVE; OR THE LAMPS COULD COME ON AND STAY ON, EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS PARKED.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCHES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN SEPTEMBER 26, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT VWOA AT 1-800-822-8987.
