Fuel was found to be leaking from the rear passenger side wheel well. A secondary flame source could cause a significant fire risk. Issue is being investigated by local VW dealer. There are no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure. Dealer recommends a replacement of the charcoal filter and N80 valve in order to have the ability to test the fuel pressure and fuel pump. My particular VIN number is not part of an existing recall on the fuel pump where fuel leak, bad charcoal canister, and N80 valve are symptomatic (secondary failures) of a bad fuel pump (primary failure). I question if the parts under the existing recall should be expanded to include a larger population.

At 80. 7k miles the car began to smell heavily of gasoline and I found gasoline leaking from the back right bumper just in front of the tire. I took the car to the dealership the next day and today they've told me that it could be a number of parts but what we have on order is the evap canister and the n80 purge valve. If this does not fix it then it is the entire gas tank, very expensive. There were no warning lamps and this issue was reproduced at the dealership. They've told me there's no recalls or warranties but I have read that many other people in the local VW group have had this issue. Volkswagen needs to own up to their previous emissions hang-ups.

I was driving my 2016 Volkswagen Golf on a roadtrip from Pennsylvania to North Carolina on 8/13. I did the 60k mile service and had my mechanic do a safety check before the roadtrip. I spent the night of 8/13 in Richmond, VA. I went to put gas in the car the next day and it was not taking the gas instead it was propelling it out of the car. The gas station attendant managed to get some gas in the tank and chalked it up to the new pumps. I stopped in NC to get more gas and none would go in. I noticed there was gas coming out of the car on the passenger side, right behind the rear tire. I had to get the car towed to my destination in NC. A dealer in NC looked at the car and diagnosed that there was a problem with the evap system. They tried this "to start with the remedy of the fuel issue on the golf we will need to start by replacing the charcoal canister -AND LDP valve (one unit) N80 purge valve. Now if it came down to replacing that fuel tank (a rough idea) there may be some additional parts we could need with replacement of the tank because it is an updated unit compared to the original. that is a big job, the rear subframe does need to be removed and in doing so the car will need to be aligned afterwards. you could be looking at an additional..." At no part in the journey were there any warning lights that indicated something was wrong with the car. at 80.7k miles the car began to smell heavily of gasoline and I found gasoline leaking from the back right bumper just in front of the tire. I took the car to the dealership the next day and today they've told me that it could be a number of parts but what we have on order is the EVAP cannister and the N80 purge valve. If this does not fix it then it is the entire gas tank, very expensive. There were NO warning lamps and this issue was reproduced at the dealership. They've told me there's no recalls or warranties but I have read that many other people in the MK7 group have had this issue. Volkswagen needs to own up to their previous emissions hang-ups

I’ve read is the suction pump but for some reason my car is not listed on this recall and is happening to me now. Is very dangerous because is gasoline pouring in the ground plus I can’t put any more gasoline in the tank. It just won’t let me. I have videos of the problem. Tried contacting VW dealers but they told me that there’s no recall on this for my vehicle. Online there’s a recall for this exact same problem and my car has it. I don’t want my car to catch fire or something.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. "Volkswagen" is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Volkswagen Golf, Golf SportWagen, GTI, Audi A3 sedan and A3 Cabriolet vehicles. Due to a problem with the suction pump inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions "EVAP" system. VW is not honoring the recall in my vehicle because it notes that my VIN number is not associated with the defected part, but this is the same issue that happened to my vehicle.

(Volkswagen) is recalling certain front-wheel drive 2015-2020 Audi A3 Sedan, 2015-2019 Audi A3 Cabriolet, 2019-2020 Volkswagen Jetta GLI, 2018 Golf Sportwagen GP, 2018-2019 Golf Sportwagen A7, 2015-2017 Golf Sportwagen, 2015-2020 Golf GTI, and 2015-2020 Golf A7 vehicles. Due to a problem with a suction jet pump seal inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system and possibly leak out of the charcoal canister.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the suction pump, free of charge. Final owner notification letters for Audi owners were mailed on July 25, 2024. Final owner letters for VW owners were mailed on August 13, 2024. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 or Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's numbers for this recall are VW: 20UF/Audi: 20YF. Vehicles that were previously recalled under 16V-647 will need to have the new remedy completed. This recall expands and replaces previous recall number 16V-647.

During air bag deployment, the front passenger air bag may explode or deploy improperly.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking occupants, resulting in serious injury or death. An improper air bag deployment may not properly restrain the occupant, increasing their risk of injury in a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the front-passenger air bag module, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 16, 2022. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2012-2016 Eos, 2012 Passat, 2012-2016 CC, 2015-2016 e-Golf, 2011-2015 Touareg, 2012-2015 and 2017 Tiguan, and 2011-2016 Golf and 2011-2013 GTI vehicles. Modifications made while the vehicles were in an internal evaluation period may cause the affected vehicles to not comply with all of the applicable regulatory requirements.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If the vehicles do not meet all regulatory requirements, there could be an increased risk of a crash, fire, or injury.

(Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2016 Jetta vehicles manufactured October 31, 2015, to January 21, 2016, 2016 Passat vehicles, equipped with 1.8T engines manufactured November 13, 2015, to December 9, 2015, and 2016 Golf vehicles manufactured November 5, 2015, to November 11, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the fuel rail may detach from the cylinder head and result in a fuel leak.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, can result in a vehicle fire.

On December 12, 2023, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened RQ23-007 to investigate the remedy repair effectiveness and scope of Volkswagen (VW) recall 16V-647. Recall 16V-647 was issued on September 2, 2016, for a defective suction jet pump (SJP) inside the fuel tank. Failure of the SJP could lead to a fuel leak from the vehicle. This recall covered certain model year (MY) 2015-2016 Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3 passenger car vehicles. The recall remedy repair replaced SJP Version 1.0 with an improved version, Version 1.1. The SJP is designed to purge fuel from the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system. VW’s recall filing stated the SJP may have been damaged during assembly, which could potentially allow fuel to flow directly into the EVAP system. Over time, the fuel could accumulate in, and cause a leak from, the charcoal canister filter element. ODI received consumer complaints of SJP failure leading to a fuel leak, refueling spit back, refueling shutoff, and/or fuel odor in vehicles previously repaired under recall 16V-647. Additional complaints alleging SJP failure leading to the previously stated outcomes were received in vehicles outside the scope of recall 16V-647, including MY 2016-2020 VW Golf and Audi A3 vehicles. VW issued recall 24V-110 on February 14, 2024, to address issues with SJPs Versions 1.0 and 1.1. The recall remedy replaces the SJP Version 1.0 or 1.1 with an improved version, Version 2.0. Recall 24V-110 covers certain MY 2015-2020 VW Golf (including Golf GTI), 2015-2020 Audi A3, and 2019-2020 VW Jetta GLI vehicles, including vehicle previously repaired under 16V-647. Vehicle owners were notified of this recall in April 2024 and VW’s projected date for owner notification of recall remedy availability is August 2024. In view of the recall being conducted by VW, ODI is closing this Recall Query (RQ). The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
