TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 US BUS SDX-3179 SCHOOL BUS. THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVERS SIDE CHASSIS HAD CRACKED AND SEVERAL REPAIRS HAD BEEN MADE TO THE VEHICLE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER RECENTLY ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND ALL REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE CONTACT STATED HE HAS ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER SEVERAL TIMES BUT TO NO AVAIL. UPDATED 06/15/10 *BF THE UPPER DOOR ROD WAS INOPERATIVE, THE HANDICAP LIFT HIT THE DOOR, WATER LEAKED INSIDE THE BUS, THE FLOOR JOINTS WERE CORRODED, THE ENTRANCE DOORS DID NOT OPEN ALL THE WAY AND THEY WERE NOT SEALER PROPERLY, THE LIFT WIRES AND HEATER HOSE WAS NOT STRAPPED PROPERLY AND THE FRONT KICK PANEL WAS EXTREMELY WEAK. CERTAIN 2001 THROUGH 2004 US BUS SCHOOL BUSES. IN EXTREMELY COLD WEATHER, THE MICROSWITCHES USED INTERNALLY TO POSITION THE SIGN IN THE OPEN AND CLOSED POSITIONS MAY MALFUNCTION, CAUSING THE SIGN TO OPEN OR CLOSE IN AN IMPROPER POSITION, OR TO NOT OPEN AT ALL.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: SHOULD THE STOP ARM NOT PERFORM PROPERLY, A CHILD OR PEDESTRIAN MAY BE ENDANGERED BY PASSING VEHICLES SHOULD THE MOTORIST NOT STOP AT THE CORRECT LOCATION.

Remedy: US BUS WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND SPECIALTY MFG. WILL PROVIDE FREE OF CHARGE A SERVICE KIT (PART NUMBER 005178) WITH A SWITCH PACK THAT IS NOT SENSITIVE TO EXTREME COLD WEATHER AND WILL INSPECT TO ENSURE THE MICROSWITCH HEATER WIRING IS PROPERLY CONNECTED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SPECIALTY MFG. AT 800-951-7867 OR US BUS 1-765-939-3984.
