THE REST OF THE RACK DID NOT EXHIBIT THE SAME DEGREE OF CORROSION, SUGGESTING A MANUFACTURING OR ASSEMBLY DEFECT. THE CONDITION WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND BY TOYOTA TECHNICIANS. THE CERTIFIED MECHANIC STATES THAT THE CONDITION IS BEYOND NORMAL WEAR BUT THE TOYOTA TECHNICIAN DENIES THAT ANYTHING BUT A BOLT IS CORRODED.

WHEN SEARCHING THE INTERNET TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM I FOUND THAT IT WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE FOR ANYONE LIVING IN A AREA (NOT JUST IN THE USA) THAT IS A SNOW AREA WHERE SALT IS USED. TOYOTA CONSIDERS THIS A WEAR ITEM. THIS SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED A WEAR ITEM WHEN FAILURE CAN HAPPEN AT ANY GIVEN SECOND WHEN DRIVING AND NOT ALLOWING THE VEHICLES DRIVER TO BE IN CONTROL

THE LEAF SPRINGS ALSO SQUEAK AND I NOTICED AFTER THEY CHANGED MY FRAME THE LEAF SPRINGS WERE NOT CHANGE EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A RECALL ON THE LEAF SPRINGS AND IT WAS RUSTING? THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT STARTED TO MAKE THIS LOUD THUD SOUND WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS AROUND 5-10 MPH. THERE IS ALSO A RECALL ON THIS, BUT MY LOCAL DEALER SAYS THERE ISN'T ONE? WHY DOESN'T THE MAIN BRANCH TALK TO OR UPDATE THE SYSTEM FOR ALL TOYOTA BRANCHES FOR RECALLS? *TR

ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO I NOTICED MY BRAKE PEDAL FELT SPONGY. CHECKED FLUID LEVEL, PADS AND SHOES, OK. NO SIGN OF A FLUID LEAK. 1 WEEK LATER I WAS DOING 65MPH AND HAD TO COME TO AN EMERGENCY STOP. MY BRAKE PEDAL FADED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO BRAKING AT ALL, COULDN'T PUMP THEM UP AND STEERED FOR THE OPEN SHOULDER. I LIMPED HOME, CHANGED MY SHORTS AND LOOKED UP THE PROBLEM ON SEVERAL TACOMA FORUMS ON THE WEB. IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND NOBODY HAS AN ANSWER, PEOPLE HAVE REPLACED EVERY COMPONENT INCLUDING THE FLUID WITH NO LUCK. I HOOKED UP MY OBD2 READER THAT HAS ABS FUNCTIONALITY AND IT SHOWED NO FAULT CODES. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AND EVERYBODY IS JUST GUESSING WHAT CAUSES THE FAILURE. IT IS THE BRAKES!, THE MOST IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE ON ANY CAR. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN PARKED AND WILL STAY THAT WAY UNTIL SOMEONE (HOPEFULLY TOYOTA) FIGURES OUT WHAT IS WRONG AND WHY.

THE HORN IN MY 2011 TOYOTA TACOMA QUIT WORKING. I WENT TO USE IT MY HORN, AND IT DID NOT WORK. I'VE TAKEN MY TRUCK TO SEVERAL PLACES TO SEE IF IT COULD BE FIXED. I HAVE BEEN READING WHERE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR MANY TOYOTA OWNERS. ALSO, THE WHITE PAINT ON MY CAR IS STARTING TO FLAKE OFF. THE TRUCK ISN'T EVEN 10 YEARS OLD AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED. YET AGAIN, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF CONSUMERS AFFECTED BY THIS. APPARENTLY THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF WHITE PAINT THAT TOYOTA KNOWS TO BE AN ISSUE ON CERTAIN YEAR MODELS, BUT THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL. HAVING A PAINT JOB IS AN EXPENSE THAT MOST CAN NOT AFFORD! I COULD SEE IF IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS CAUSED FROM AN ACCIDENT OR THE OWNERS FAULT, BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS. MINE IS STARTING TO PEEL AND FLAKE ON MY PASSENGERS SIDE DOOR AROUND THE WINDOW. THERE WAS NO PRELIMINARY FLAKING OR PEELING OF THE CLEAR COAT, IT WENT STRAIGHT FROM WHITE PAINT TO GRAY. NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE WRITTEN IN ABOUT BOTH OF THIS ISSUES AND THERE IS NOTHING BEING DONE! THERE IS NO REASON WHY THEY CAN'T FIX OUR HORNS. I LIVE IN N.C. AND MY TRUCK WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION WITHOUT IT. THIS LEADS TO OTHER TICKETS AND FINES THAT SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE NEEDED MY HORN, AND IT DOESN'T WORK.

Aug 4, 2014

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2008-2014 FJ Cruiser and Tacoma vehicles equipped with accessory wheels and tires installed by Toyota or dealers prior to the vehicle's first sale. The affected vehicles may list incorrect spare tire size and/or cold tire inflation information on the tire placard. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, "Tire Selection and Rims for Passenger Cars."

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the spare tire is inflated to the incorrect pressure provided on the placard, tire failure may occur while it is being driven on, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: For the involved vehicles, overlay stickers to correct the tire placard will either be mailed to owners or provided to dealers for placement over the incorrect information on the placard. The recall is expected to begin in September 2014. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.

Aug 7, 2013

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Tacoma Access Cab vehicles manufactured September 14, 2004, through March 29, 2010; and model year 2011 Tacoma Access Cab vehicles manufactured July 1, 2010, through September 7, 2011. If the access doors are repeatedly and forcefully closed, the screws that attach the seat belt pre-tensioner to the seat belt retractor can loosen over time. If the screws loosen completely, the seat belt pre-tensioner and the retractor spring cover could detach from the seat belt retractor.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the seat belt pre-tensioner detaches from the seat belt assembly, the seat belt pre-tensioner will not perform as designed, increasing the risk of injury in a severe crash.

Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat belt assemblies. Based on the inspection, the seat belt assembly will be replaced or new pre-tensioner screws will be installed with thread-locking sealant and a retractor spring cover with stopper ribs to prevent loosening of the screws. These services will be provided at no cost to the owner. The recall began during February 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
