A/C STOPPED WORKING AND THE DEALER SAID THE COMPRESSOR NEED TO BE REPLACED. FOR A LESS THAN 5 YEAR CAR TO HAVE A FAILED COMPRESSOR IS STRANGE. WHEN WE ARE TALKING, THEY MENTIONED THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR TOYOTA WITH THIS MODEL. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT POSSIBLE OF RECALL, THEY SAID THEY DON'T THINK THERE WILL BE A RECALL BECAUSE IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. WHY IS IT NOT A SAFETY ISSUE? THERE COULD BE HARMFUL AIR AND METAL PARTICLE BLOW INTO CAR CABIN. NOW I REMEMBERED THAT BEFORE THE A/C STOPPED WORKING, THERE WAS AN VERY SHORT EPISODE OF "BURN SMELL" AND THERE WAS SOME TINY PARTICLE BLOWN INTO MY FACE. HOWEVER, I DIDN'T THINK TOO MUCH ABOUT IT BACK THEN BECAUSE THE A/C DIDN'T STOP WORKING RIGHT AWAY.

INITIALLY I THOUGHT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE AS THERE WAS A LOUD CRACKLING SOUND THAT I COULDN'T LOCATE. SOON I REALIZED THAT THE SUN ROOF HAD SHATTERED, AND HUNDREDS OF MINUTE SLIVERS OF GLASS WERE RAINING IN TO THE CAR--COVERING HALF MY HEAD AND BODY, THE CENTER CONSOLE, AND THE PASSENGERS SEAT. I SHUT THE ROOF PANEL UNDER THE SUNROOF AND DROVE HOME. ALTHOUGH THE SUN ROOF SHATTERED, IT STAYED PRETTY MUCH INTACT.

WHEN ATTEMPTING TO GET IT FIXED WITHIN A 51 MILE RADIUS ON JUNE 13, I WAS TOLD BY THREE DEALERS THAT TOYOTA DOES NOT HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE. ACCELERATED PROBLEM: I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM HAVING MAINTANCE WORK COMPLETED ON CAR. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT TOYOTA HAD DONE SOME THING THAT CREATED THIS PROBLEM. I WAS COASTING AND BRAKING COMING UP TO STOP LIGHT, WHICH WAS RED, I WAS GOING ABOUT 1-2 MILES PER HOUR, WHEN RPM'S WENT VERY HIGH. COULD NOT STOP CAR WITH ONE FOOT ON BRAKE, NEEDED TO USE BOTH FEET ON BRAKE PEDDLE TO GET CONTROL OF CAR, ALMOST HIT CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS ABLE TO STOP CAR APPRX 1-2 FEET FROM CAR IN FRONT OF ME. BRAKES OR TIRES WERE MAKING VERY LOUD NOISE. MY WIFE SAID THAT TACT WAS STRAIGHT UP, WHICH IS IN THE AREA OF 7-8 THOUSAND RPM'S. MOTOR WAS VERY LOUD. ONCE I HAD CONTROL OF CAR I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND CAR WAS STILL ROARING, I TURNED THE MOTOR OF. WHEN LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND CARS IN FRONT OF ME PULLED AWAY, I AGAIN STARTED MY CAR UP AND APPEARED TO RUNNING NORMAL. THE ONLY THING THAT I SAW WAS DIFFERENT WAS A SYMBOL CAME ON DASH BOARD, IN BOTTOM RIGHT SIDE. IT WAS IN YELLOW WITH A CAR AND WAVY TIRE TRACKS WHICH I WAS TOLD WAS THE ABS SYSTEM. THIS LIGHT STAYED ON FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AND WENT OUT. ON 01/17/2011, I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO TOYOTA OF LAKE CITY AND THEY SAID THAT EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT AND COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM WITH CAR AND COULD NOT GET TO DUPLICATE AGAIN. I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD TAKE CAR HOME, BUT FOUND OUT LATER THAT ACCORDING TO TOYOTA RULES, I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE CAR HOME. TECH WAS TRYING TO GET A HOLD OF TOYOTA HEAD QTRS, BUT I FOUND OUT LATER, TOYOTA HEAD QTRS WAS CLOSED. NOT HAPPY WITH THIS AND ASKED FOR FURTHER TESTS. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK AGAIN ON 01/26/2011 AND WAS TOLD THAT FIELD TECHNICIAN RAN FURTHER TESTS ON CAR, TOYOTA HAD THE CAR FOR 2 DAYS. I WAS TOLD THAT EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT AND NOTHING FURTHER COULD BE DONE. THEY NEEDED THE CAR TO ACCELERATE AGAIN, WHILE TOYOTA HAD THE CAR TO DETERMINE WHAT WENT WRONG.

THE 2010 RAV4 ROLLS BACKWARDS WHILE IN DRIVE. I FIRST NOTICED THIS WHILE STOPPED A RED LIGHT IN TRAFFIC. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE CAR PROCEEDED TO ROLL BACKWARDS AND DID NOT STOP UNTIL I APPLIED BRAKE PRESSURE. I'VE ALSO EXPERIENCED THIS WHILE STOPPED TO REMOVE MY MAIL FROM MY MAIL BOX AND THE CAR ROLLED BACKWARDS INTO THE ROADWAY WHILE IN DRIVE. IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY THE CAR WHILE IN DRIVE ROLLS BACKWARDS, FREELY, WITH NO SIGN OF STOPPING UNTIL I APPLY BRAKE PRESSURE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND UNEXPECTED WHEN IT HAPPENS. MY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS CAR. FRANKLY, I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN THE CAR. THANKFULLY, NO ONE HAS BEEN INJURED WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I'M NOT SURE IF THE FAILED COMPONENT IS THE DRIVE TRAIN, THE TRANSMISSION OR THE HYDRAULICS. THIS REALLY NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO BY SOMEONE BEFORE ANYONE IS KILLED OR INJURED.

Aug 12, 2016
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2006-2011 Toyota RAV4 vehicles manufactured October 31, 2005, to September 7, 2010, and 2010 Lexus HS250h vehicles manufactured July 6, 2009, to August 26, 2010. The affected vehicles have rear suspension arms (rear tie rods) with adjusting lock nuts that may have been improperly tightened after servicing. As a result of being loose, the arm may have thread damage and may rust, possibly leading to the failure of the arm and an abrupt change in the vehicle's alignment.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Failure of the rear tie rod could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners and dealers will replace both rear suspension arms and encapsulate the locknuts, free of charge. The recall began on September 30, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are G0V for Toyota vehicles and GLK for Lexus vehicles. Note: This recall supersedes recall 13V-383, in which some vehicles were only inspected, sealed, and did not have both arms replaced. The affected vehicles were previously recalled under 13V-383, but did not have both rear suspension arms replaced at that time. Those vehicles need to have both arms replaced as part of this recall remedy.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2009-2012 RAV4 vehicles manufactured October 27, 2008, to December 19, 2012 and 2012-2014 RAV4 EV vehicles manufactured July 24, 2012, to August 29, 2014. In the affected vehicles, water may drip onto the joint that connects the wiper linkage to the wiper motor.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Over time, the dripping water may cause corrosion and wear at the joint, potentially resulting in the separation of the wiper linkage. Once this occurs, the wipers would not function, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the water diverter channel. In addition, a new wiper linkage with a wiper motor crank arm will be installed. The wiper linkage will have a protective cover over the wiper linkage joint to minimize water splash and a retainer ring to prevent the wiper arm from separating from the wiper motor. The recall began on November 7, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service number at 1-800-331-4331.

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2006 through 2011 RAV4 and 2010 Lexus HS250h passenger vehicles manufactured from October 2005 through September 2010. If the nuts for adjusting the rear wheel alignment are improperly tightened during service, the rear suspension arm (rear tie rod) may develop unwanted movement and rust leading to thread damage and eventual failure. Failure of the rear tie rod will cause an abrupt change in the vehicle's alignment.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Failure of the rear tie rod could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tie rods and replace any that have rust or corrosion on the alignment adjustment threads. All of the rear tie rods will then be encased in an epoxy to prevent future environmental damage. Due to limitations in parts, the recall remedy will be launched in phases from September 2013 through mid-April 2014. All owners will receive notification of the recall, with most receiving second notifications when parts are available in their area. IMPORTANT: This recall supersedes Toyota and Lexus recall 12V-373. All vehicles that have been inspected and remedied under the previous recall need to be re-inspected and have the appropriate remedy applied.

TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 AVALON, MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 CAMRY, MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 COROLLA, COROLLA MATRIX, RAV4, MODEL YEAR 2010 HIGHLANDER, MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 SEQUOIA, AND MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 TUNDRA VEHICLES. DUE TO THE MANNER IN WHICH THE FRICTION LEVER INTERACTS WITH THE SLIDING SURFACE OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL INSIDE THE PEDAL SENSOR ASSEMBLY, THE SLIDING SURFACE OF THE LEVER MAY BECOME SMOOTH DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. IN THIS CONDITION, IF CONDENSATION OCCURS ON THE SURFACE, AS MAY OCCUR FROM HEATER OPERATION (WITHOUT A/C) WHEN THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY IS COLD, THE FRICTION WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS OPERATED MAY INCREASE, WHICH MAY RESULT IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECOMING HARDER TO DEPRESS, SLOWER TO RETURN, OR, IN THE WORST CASE, MECHANICALLY STUCK IN A PARTIALLY DEPRESSED POSITION.
Consequence & remedy
