Component/System failed: The electronic control module (ECM) and related wiring were compromised by a dealer-installed Lojack anti-theft system. The device was spliced into wiring near the airbag system and ECM, causing repeated faults. The component remains in the vehicle and is available for inspection. Safety risks: 1. Wiring near airbags may interfere with deployment. 2. ECM faults risk stalling, loss of power, or emissions failure. 3. Hidden wiring increases short-circuit risk, especially near coolant areas. 4. These conditions place driver and passenger safety at risk. Problem confirmation & inspections: The issue has been reproduced in multiple dealer visits. One Toyota dealer identified the improper Lojack installation as the likely root cause. Service records are available. Warning lamps: Yes. Check engine lights and warning messages appeared within months of purchase and continue intermittently. Summary: The car was sold as a Toyota Gold Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicle, advertised as thoroughly inspected and protected. In reality, it contained an undisclosed modification that created hidden defects, repeated ECM errors, and safety concerns. Concern: The ECM is covered by the 8-year/80,000-mile federal emissions warranty and the 7-year/100,000-mile Gold CPO warranty. Yet Toyota denied my arbitration claim as “ineligible.” If such cases are refused, it means dealers can install aftermarket systems, charge buyers, and avoid accountability. In that situation, the Toyota Gold CPO program becomes meaningless—a consumer deception rather than protection. Request: I respectfully ask NHTSA to investigate whether dealer-installed systems like Lojack pose systemic safety risks and whether Toyota’s warranty and arbitration processes are adequately protecting consumers.

The menu display for stereo does not work. There is a recall on the 12.5 inch display which a representative from Toyota stated it could cause the menu options and stereo not to work, but when I took my vehicle to be serviced, it was not part of the recall. Someone needs to look into Toyota about this situation.

One technician drove it and it did it for him. They performed software updates. Test drove it several times and said it did not do it for them. Paid over $800. On my way home it did it again, complete stop on its own when a car next to me stopped. Took the car back to Team Toyota the next morning. They did test drive and it did it several times with them. Team Toyota still has my car waiting on a regional field tech to come look at my car. I called Toyota Brand Engagement 800-331-4331 to report this and have a case number [XXX] and spoke with Jasmin there. Odometer Fraud. The contact owns a 2019 Toyota Camry. The contact purchased the vehicle from a private seller. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for service for a door latch replacement. The contact was informed of additional repairs that were needed to be performed on the vehicle. The contact later went back to the dealer and inquired about trading the vehicle. The dealer provided the Carfax report to the contact. The contact stated that according to the Carfax report, the latest odometer reading was reported at 297,742. The contact stated that when the vehicle was purchased, the advertisement indicated that the mileage was 112,000. The contact reviewed the Title of the vehicle and noticed that the odometer mileage reading on the Title was 197,742. The seller was not made aware of the issue. The contact attempted to contact the seller, but there was no response.

The auxillary for the music has a short in it and Everytime a bump is hit it knocks it loose and it shuts off the whole thing. The screen and maps and music. The screen also freezes and my maps and route stopped working. I had to pull off the road to turn my car off to reset it. I have to do this multiple times if I'm using my screen for directions/maps. It's frustrating and annoying when u expect a brand new vehicle to work properly. It started a few weeks after I took it off the dealership. It also wouldn't connect to Bluetooth very well that's why I had to use the cord. I keep my phone and cord stationary.With the Bluetooth it would just disconnect completely or have static or breaks in whatever I'm listening to. When I hit a bump and the whole system gets turned off sometimes and it doesn't want to come back on when I touch the button. It seems that the whole system is glitching and if u depend on maps/directions to travel it makes things difficult. The next issue i had is with the seatbelt. I couldn't get it to release so I can put it on. The car was started but we hadn't pulled out or put it in any gear and the break was not pushed in. We had to turn it completely off again and wait a few minutes and restart it again. This is dangerous. I hope that the company looks at these complaints and fixes them because they r very scary. U expect a brand new vehicle to not have any issues especially at the prices we pay for them. We bought our vehicle in 2022 and had to wait over 6 weeks for it to arrive because it was ordered. Right now it 08/2025 and we r just now hitting the 30,000 mile marker on our vehicle. We don't drive it much but when we do it's long distances because we live out in the country and it's 45-60 minutes to town and these things can't be happening. Also I use my maps often because these r curvy small back roads where I live and not well marked if I'm going to a new location and I need my auxillary system to work right.

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Avalon, Avalon HV, Venza, Camry, and Camry HV vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the drain hose for the air conditioning condenser may become clogged causing water to accumulate at the bottom of the air conditioning condenser unit housing. The accumulated water may then leak through a seam in the housing onto the air bag control module potentially resulting in a short circuit of the module.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A short circuit may cause the air bags to become disabled or inadvertently deploy. An inadvertent airbag deployment can increase the risk of injury or the possibility of a crash. An inoperative airbag can increase the risk of injury in a severe crash. The power steering assist could also become inoperable resulting in increased steering effort and can increase the risk of a crash at low speeds.

Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will seal the air conditioning condenser unit housing and install a protective cover on the airbag control module, free of charge. The recall began on February 5, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: UNDER SUCH A CONDITION, SHOULD A DRIVER FAIL TO MOVE THE SHIFT LEVER TO "PARK" POSITION AND ALSO FAIL TO ACTIVATE THE PARKING BRAKE, THE VEHICLE COULD ROLL AWAY DOWN A SLOPE.

BECAUSE THE PART IS AN EMISSIONRELATED COMPONENT A VOLUNTARY EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN WAS CONDUCTED.THE PREDOMINANT MODE OF FAILURE IS AN INABILITY TO START THE ENGINE,ALTHOUGH A STALLED CONDITION CAN OCCUR WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.SINCE THE REPORTED OCCURENCE OF ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES IS SMALL, AND THEREPAIR IS BEING CONDUCTED UNDER THE EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN, THELIKLEHOOD OF FURTHER ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES IS REMOTE.===
