There’s been a few times when I started my car to head to work and something appears on the dash board that reads ( Air bag malfunction) Then it’s gives me a hard time to steer the car. This has happened ample times. So when it does happen I have to shut the car off and then turn it back on so that the issue on the dash board disappears. I do this 2 to 3 times until it clears. (Very weird).. Every time it happens it’s when I turn my car on to head out to either go to work or do errands. Etc. But i usually shut the car off immediately when I see that it appears on the dash board. When I do , it usually goes away and I can again take control of the steering wheel and the pressure on the steering wheel go back to being normal and manageable. But I’ve noticed that when it does come on there’s a tremendous change in the steering Ps. It reads …. Airbag malfunction.

I was rear ended when I was braking hard to avoid hitting a dog in the street (where I live you can be sued for running over/injuring a dog). My car speed was about 10 mph give or take, and I was rear ended by a distracted driver (who admitted to using antidepressants on a daily basis) who I believe was going at least 45 mph. My car was pushed forward at least 6 ft and no airbags were deployed. I thought I died because I saw a flash of bright light enveloping my entire vision while my chest and forehead were whipped forward harshly and almost touched my steering wheel. My whiplash injuries are moderately severe and have actually put a few discs along my entire spine and cervical area off-center, continuing to cause extreme back/neck pain and discomfort. I have sharp intermittent pain in my head as well. Had the airbags went off from the steering wheel I strongly believe I would not be in this much pain, having to take time off work to seek treatment a few times a week. I am confused as to why the airbags did not deploy when my car was crashed into behind at such a high speed when viewing footage. Had this happened on the freeway I have no doubt I would be dead from a broken neck or in the hospital as a 'living vegetable' from a cracked spine. Toyota should be making airbag deployment in all types of accidents a priority. Individuals are just as prone to sustaining life threatening injuries when rear ended as during a frontal collision.

ONCOMING CAR CROSSED THE CENTERLINE ON A CURVE, BOTH CARS WERE MOVING. I WOULD DISPUTE THE SPEED OF THE OTHER CAR AS I BELIEVE IT WAS GOING MUCH FASTER THAN STATED IN THE POLICE REPORT. OUR VEHICLE MAY VERY WELL HAVE PERFORMED AS DESIGNED (TOYOTA HAS BEEN CALLED TO CONFIRM), WE ARE THANKFUL TO BE HERE, BUT FEEL THE INJURIES COULD HAVE BEEN MINIMIZED IF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. OTHER VEHICLE HAD AIRBAGS DEPLOY, BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER WALKED AWAY.

TWO WEEKS LATER THE SRS AIRBAG MALFUNCTION LIGHT STARTED TO ILLUMINATE AND THE REAR SEATBELT ALARM CONTINOUSLY SOUND OFF ALERTING ME TO FASTEN SEATBELTS WHEN NO ONE WAS SITTING BACK THERE. I TRIED TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON BUT WAS TOLD IT HAD TO BE TAKEN TO TOYOTA. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO TOYOTA, I FOUND OUT THE WIRING HARNESS HAD BEEN TORN AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME $4,900.00 TO FIX THE ISSUE. I WAS ALSO TOLD IF I WAS EVER IN AN ACCIDENT, THE AIRBAG MORE THAN LIKELY WOULDN'T DEPLOY. SINCE DISCOVERING THIS ISSUE, I HAVE NOT BEEN DRIVING THE VVEHICLEDUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE.

THE MAIN REASON WE WENT WITH THIS CAR IS THE SAFETY THAT WAS ADVERTISED. HOWEVER, DURING THIS CRASH NONE OF THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED FROM THE CAR AND HELPED MY WIFE (THE DRIVER) FROM GETTING THE SHOCK. SHE ALSO GOT NECK STRAIN DURING THIS INCIDENT. IF THIS DUE TO THE FAULTY AIR BAG, IT MAKES ME ANNOYED AS MY 8 YEAR SON WAS ALSO ON THE CAR WHEN THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED. IT MAKES ME WONDER WHETHER THIS CAR IS REALLY THAT SAFE AS IT IS GETTING ADVERTISED AND REQUIRE YOU HELP IN REGISTERING THIS COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA TO SEE WHAT WOULD BE NEXT STEPS.
