On December 13, 2021 the windshield wipers failed while we were driving at about 55 mph on a highway in heavy rain and wind. The passenger side wiper arm over-traveled and jammed behind the driver side wiper arm leaving us with no windshield wipers. We pulled onto the shoulder and unjammed the wipers several times but each time they jammed again within a few minutes. We drove without wipers to the nearest exit where we spent the night on the side of the road. The next morning after the rain stopped we drove to an independent RV repair shop where the technician: "Inspected all linkages, pivot points and mounting points. Found motor linkage bent. Straightened bracket and tightened passenger side spline mount." The next time we drove in the rain, on December 29, 2021, the same thing happened after using the wipers for less than an hour. We exited the highway and drove on a secondary road to our destination in the rain without wipers. We cannot drive the vehicle in the rain in this condition again. We will contact a Thor authorized service center to arrange an inspection and repair.

HAPPENED TO ME TWICE ON THE FREEWAY PRIOR TO HAVING THE RECALL COMPLETED AND THE DAY OF HAVING THE RECALL COMPLETED IT HAPPENED ON THE WAY HOME. AFTER TALKING WITH FORD ,THEY SAID IT IS A THOR PROBLEM. I THEN TOOK IT TO A FORD TRUCK DEALER AND THEY SAID THE TOE WAS OUT SO BAD ,THEY CANT BELIEVE I GOT IT TO THEM. THOR SAID ITS IN THEIR WARRANTY MANUAL TO HAVE THE FRONT END ALIGNED. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS A STRAIGHT AXLE SUSPENSION AND NOT A INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION. THEIR IS NO CASTER - CAMBER ADJUSTMENT, JUST TOE. AFTER TALKING TO TOM OVERTON AT THOR HE SAID THEY WILL NOT COVER THE COST TO ALIGN THE FRONT END. SO I ASKED HIM TO SWITCH ME OVER TO A MANAGER AND HE HUNG UP ON ME. ACCORDING TO THE WEB THEIR IS THOUSANDS OF MOTORHOMES ON THE ROAD WITH BAD ALIGNMENTS WAITING TO CAUSE ACCIDENTS. THOR REFUSES TO RESPOND TO ANY CALLS OR WRITTEN MAIL, MAYBE YOU CAN HAVE BETTER LUCK.

ON APRIL 28 AND 29, 2016, MY HUSBAND AND I EXPERIENCED A WIPER FAILURE ON OUR NEW THOR HURRICANE PURCHASED MARCH 29, 2016. WE WERE COMING DOWN A MOUNTAIN ON INTERSTATE 77 OUTSIDE CHAROLETTE, NORTH CAROLINA WHEN, IN A HEAVY RAIN STORM, THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER ARM TRAVELED BELOW THE LOWER PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD ALSO CAUSING THE DRIVER SIDE NOT TO WORK AS WELL. IT WAS A HORIFIC EXPERIENCE AND SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED ON SUCH A NEW VEHICLE. WE STOPPED BY A REPAIR FACILITY AND HAD THE WIPER LINKAGE HARDWARE TIGHTENED AND ADJUSTED BUT EXPERIENCE THE SAME THING THE NEXT DAY ON APRIL 29. WE CONTACTED THOR, WHO TOLD US THIS WAS VERY UNUSUAL AND WE WERE THE ONLY ONES TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN. THEY ORDERED A COMPLETE WIPER ASSEMBLY AND WE HAD IT INSTALLED ON JUNE 6, 2016. SINCE THEN WEVE EXPERIENCED THE WIPER BLADE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NOT STAYING ON, AND HAD TO PAY FOR A REPLACEMENT EVEN THOUGH THOR REPLACED THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY TO INCLUDE ARMS AND BLADES. WE HAVE PHOTOS AND A VIDEO AFTER THE 2ND FAILURE SHOWING HOW THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER ARM WILL SLOWLY MOVE FARTHER DOWN PAST ITS NORMAL RESTING PLACE AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE DRIVERS SIDE TO NOT FUNCTION

Thor Motor Coach (Thor) is recalling various 2003-2018 recreational vehicles, equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. See a list of the affected trailer models at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V758-5764.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy: Thor will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. Owners may contact Thor customer service at 1-877-500-1020, or Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information.

1PE20021 · Trimark 060-1650 Door Latch Failures
Opened Nov 23, 2020 · Closed Dec 13, 2024
Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Equipment
On November 23, 2020, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE20021 to investigate allegations of inoperative Trimark THP 060-1650 door lock/latches originally equipped on model years (MY) 2015-2017 Class A and Class C motorhomes.ODI received forty-six Vehicle Owner’s Questionnaires (VOQs) describing consumers being locked in or out of their vehicles. The door latch, containing a die-cast zinc plunger, was produced by Equality during calendar years 2014-2016. The die-cast may become porous and brittle over time and can break without warning, causing the vehicle owner to be unable to open the recreational vehicle door equipped with the latch. If the motorhome does not have any other doors such as some Class A models, occupants could be trapped inside, needing to climb out using the emergency exits. If locked out, owners would be unable to easily get in and retrieve children and pets. ODI analyzed the data provided by Trimark in response to its January 27, 2021 information request letter.Although an elevated failure rate was evident on a specific combination of plunger bolt, door lock/latch assembly and door, the data showed that most failures occurred within the first two years of service on the affected 2015-2017 vehicles. This data suggests that component failures generally would have already occurred.Further, ODI data reflects a downward trend in complaints after calendar year 2018 and for post- MY 2016 vehicles. This downward trend may be attributed Trimark's actions in 2016 such as changes in the manufacturing process of its zinc plunger component for the relevant population and its 2016 decision to switch to a steel plunger. In view of the nature of early-life failure, and failure rate trending downward for model years 2017 and newer, this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
