Appears a tire belt(s) failed. Karrier KR35 ST205/75R14 103/99M tire, date code 1619. Tire appeared to have a balding spot at first rest stop, but 4 hours down the road it was worn through the belts. Driver side tire, and wear on outside shoulder was less pronounced, but you could see 10" of metal where the inner most tread groove should have been. All tire wear elsewhere was good. Other side was balanced. These tires are removed and inspected annually, with side swapping every year to help balance out a misalligned frame (the passenger side spring mount is 1/2" closer to the front than the driver side). Rotation with spare is not done for cosmetic reasons (different wheel). Spare is the same model, just date code 0619. Tire and wheel were dismounted in campground and spare installed. All brake and bearing checks (external) were good (free spin, no grinding, no burrs or hangups). Passenger side wheel brake was a justed to reduce brake drag (make the spin the same as the driver side. Passenger side tire is evenly worn in all respects.
