VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SCOOTERS. DURING FULL COMPRESSION OF THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM, THE FUEL SHUT-OFF VALVE ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE FUEL TANK, WILL COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE ENGINE HOUSING OF THE VEHICLE. THIS CONTACT CAN CAUSE A STRESS CRACK FRACTURE TO THE PETCOCK NIPPLE TO THE FUEL TANK JOINT.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE A FUEL LEAKAGE. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.

Remedy: AMERICAN SUNDIRO IS INSTRUCTING OWNERS TO CONTACT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO HAVE THEIR SCOOTER REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE.

ODI HAS RECEIVED TWO FUEL LEAK COMPLAINTS ON 1999 MODEL SUNDIRO MANTIS II SCOOTERS.BOTH OWNERS ALLEGE THAT THEY DISCOVERED THE FUEL TANK LEAK AFTER THE MOTORCYCLE WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT AND THAT THE TANKS WERE HALF EMPTYMORNING.FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCTE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD START A FIRE.
