HAVE THE CAR 5 YEARS, HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY NOW TWICE. ONCE AT 2 YEARS AND ONCE A YEAR AND A HALF LATER. I OWN A 2014 VW BEETLE AND STILL HAVE NOT HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY.
VEHICLE PURCHASED Q2 2020. BATTERY HAS COMPLETELY DISCHARGED TWICE DESPITE NOTHING BEING LEFT ON AND VEHICLE IN CONSTANT USE. BATTERY JUMP STARTER UNABLE TO DETECT ANY VOLTAGE AND COULD NOT JUMP BATTERY.

THIS CAR HAS HAD REPEATED ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE CAR IS ON IT'S THIRD BATTERY IN 4 YEARS. SUUBARU PAID FOR THE LAST "AFTERMARKET" BATTERY BASED ON MY REQUEST AND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS. THE SAFETY ISSUE CAME UP FROM THE LAST PROBLEM: THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THIS TOO IS A COMMON PROBLEM. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SENSOR IN THE GEAR SHIFT MECHANISM TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS OWNERS ARE POSTING WORKAROUNDS ON LINE TO GET AROUND THIS PROBLEM. THE WORKAROUNDS GET AROUND THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, BY DISCONNECTING WIRES THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED IN ANY POSITION, INCLUDING WHILE THE CAR IS IN GEAR AND MOVING. THAT IS CLEARLY A POTENTIAL PROBLEM. THIS REPAIR WAS MADE APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS AGO. TWO DAYS AGO THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEPLETED AND THE TAILGATE WOULD NOT FUNCTION. I BROUGHT THIS TO SUBARU'S ATTENTION. THIS TIME THEY SAID I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST (I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY ON THE IGNITION SWITCH AND BATTERY ISSUES). I BELIEVE THERE IS A FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM IN THIS GENERATION OF SUBARU'S THAT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. A SIMPLE SEARCH OF THE SUBARU OUTBACK FORUM FOR KEY RELEASE PROBLEMS WILL VERIFY MY ASSERTION. SUBARU NEEDS TO COME CLEAN ON THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING DEFICIENCIES IMPACTING SAFETY AND RELIABILITY.

CONTACTED SUBARU OF AMERICA MULTIPLE TIMES (AFTER THE FIRST TWO BATTERIES WERE REPLACED). THEY CLAIM THAT THE CAR WAS NEVER BUILT OR ADVERTISED TO BE USED ON IN-TOWN TRAVEL AND I MUST WASTE GAS ON HIGHWAY TRAVEL AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK IN ADDITION TO ALWAYS KEEPING BATTERY ON MAINTAINER. SUBARU HAS INSISTED THAT THIS IS NORMAL AND EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR OF A CAR. SUBARU SENT A FACTORY-FIELD TECHNICIAN OUT TO INSPECT THE CAR AND "FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE" AND SIMPLY ADVISED THAT AN EVEN LARGER BATTERY BE USED IN ADDITION TO ALL OF THE OTHER ADDITIONAL STEPS (KEEPING ON CHARGER/MAINTAINER AND WEEKLY HIGHWAY DRIVING).

REAR HATCH DOOR BEING OPENED DRAINED BATTERY TO THE POINT WHERE THE CAR HAD TO BE JUMP STARTED. THE REAR HATCH WAS ONLY OPEN FOR ABOUT FIVE HOURS WITH NO LIGHTS OR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ON. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT JUMP STARTING IT UNTIL A NEW BATTERY WAS INSTALLED. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 30,000 MILES.

Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2009-2013 Forester vehicles, 2008-2011 Impreza vehicles, 2008-2014 WRX vehicles, 2005-2014 Legacy vehicles, 2005-2014 Outback vehicles and 2006-2008 Tribeca vehicles equipped with a mechanical key ignition switch installed as a replacement part. The ball spring inside the switch may break, reducing the strength of the ignition switch. If this occurs, the weight on the key ring and certain road conditions could cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position to the accessory position, turning off the engine.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: The engine turning off unexpectedly can increase the risk of a crash. If a crash occurs under this condition, the air bag may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the ignition switch, replacing the ignition switch, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began May 10, 2019. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WUF-91.
