EXPERIENCED FREQUENT OCCURRENCES OF DEAD BATTERY (THAT WAS ONLY 8 MONTHS OLD). DEALER REPLACED BATTERY BUT I CONTINUED TO HAVE INTERMITTENT ISSUES OVER THE NEXT YEAR. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER IN AUG 2020 FOR ANALYSIS, WAS TOLD NO ISSUE, IT JUST ISN'T DRIVEN ENOUGH, AND RECOMMENDED BATTERY MAINTAINER INSTALL OR GEL BATTERY. ISSUE CAN OCCUR WHETHER CAR WAS DRIVEN YESTERDAY OR A WEEK AGO. WAS TOLD BY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT BATTERY INSTALLED AT DEALER WAS TOO WEAK SO I PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY IN FEB 2021 AND HAVE BEEN MONITORING VOLTAGE. WHILE I HAVE NOT HAD A COMPLETELY DEAD BATTERY SINCE THEN, THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW SLUGGISH STARTS. VOLT METER SHOWS BATTERY DROPS BELOW 12V WITHIN HOURS AFTER BEING DRIVEN. I ENSURE THAT NO LIGHTS ARE LEFT ON, NOR IS ANYTHING PLUGGED INTO CHARGING PORTS, TO MITIGATE DRAINAGE AND BELIEVE THERE IS PHANTOM DRAIN/ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION SOMEWHERE IN THE SYSTEM.
THE OEM BATTERY WAS FAILING TO HOLD A CHARGE AND DIED ONE DAY AFTER DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE. HAD TO HAVE A LOCAL TOW SERVICE COME AND JUMPSTART THE CAR. TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY NEEDED TO CHARGE THE BATTERY.
THE BATTERY PREMATURELY DRAINS WHEN DRIVEN FOR MULTIPLE SHORT TRIPS. IT ALSO DRAINS WHILE SITTING IF IT IS NOT FREQUENTLY DRIVEN FOR MEDIUM-LENGTH TRIPS.

FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH SUBARU AMERICA AFTER MY AUTOMOBILE'S BATTERY DIED FOR THE 4TH TIME.I HAVE APPROX. 21,000 ON THE CAR WHICH WAS BOUGHT NEW IN 2016. THE BATTERY DIES WHEN THE CAR SITS OVERNIGHT (IT IS GARAGED EVERY NIGHT). I KNOW THERE ARE CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS CLAIMING THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OVERWHELMS THE BATTERY THUS CAUSING IT TO GO DEAD. I BOUGHT THE CAR KNOWING THAT MY PREVIOUS SUBARU'S HAVE BEEN VERY RELIABLE. THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH THE 2016 SUBARU OUTBACK.
MY BATTERY DRAINS QUICKLY WHEN I HAVE THE CAR OFF AND THE HATCH OPEN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2016.
PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED COMPLAINT REGARDING MY SUBARU OUTBACK STALLING. I WAS ASSIGNED COMPLAINT NUMBER 11414502 (ATTACHED) BUT WHEN I DIDN'T RECEIVE THE EMAIL, I CHECKED AND IT DIDN'T PULL UP SO I'M RESUBMITTING.

THE CAR INTERMITTENTLY BUCKS/CHUGS WHILE DRIVING AND THEN STALLS. ALL THE LIGHTS FLASH ON. IT IS DIFFICULT TO RESTART. IT HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AND LOCAL STREETS. THE CAR INTERMITTENTLY BUCKS/CHUGS WHILE DRIVING AND THEN STALLS. ALL THE LIGHTS FLASH ON. IT IS DIFFICULT TO RESTART. IT HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AND LOCAL STREETS. IT ALSO IDLES VERY ROUGH WHEN AT STOPS OR IN PARK AND SHUDDERS LIKE IT WANTS TO STALL - SOMETIMES IT DOES. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 2 MONTHS NOW. THE FIRST TIME, I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND IT STALLED CREATING A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. MY MECHANIC HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT AND THEN HE HAS TAKEN IT TO THE LOCAL SUBARU DEALERSHIP WHERE IT HAS SPENT ALMOST 2 MONTHS OFF & ON WHILE THEY "FIXED" IT. THEY GIVE IT BACK AND IT IS BACK TO THEM WITHIN A WEEK WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE LAST TIME THEY REPLACED A MAP SENSOR AND SOME WIRING. THIS IS HAZARDOUS AND THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE. IT FEELS LIKE THEY JUST KEEP CLEARING OUT THE ERROR AND GIVING IT BACK TO ME.
SUBARU DEALER REPLACED DEAD BATTERY 10/2020. CAR PARKED FOR 20 DAYS (NO LIGHTS, ETC WERE ON DURING THAT TIME) AND BATTERY WAS DEAD. DEALER CHECKED BATTERY AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AND CLAIMED ALL WAS GOOD. HE DID SAY THAT IT IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR THEM TO GO DEAD IN 10 TO 14 DAYS. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS OCCURRED. THE 1ST TIME, …

Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2009-2013 Forester vehicles, 2008-2011 Impreza vehicles, 2008-2014 WRX vehicles, 2005-2014 Legacy vehicles, 2005-2014 Outback vehicles and 2006-2008 Tribeca vehicles equipped with a mechanical key ignition switch installed as a replacement part. If this occurs, the weight on the key ring and certain road conditions could cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position to the accessory position, turning off the engine.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: The engine turning off unexpectedly can increase the risk of a crash. If a crash occurs under this condition, the air bag may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the ignition switch, replacing the ignition switch, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began May 10, 2019. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WUF-91.
