ON CERTAIN FOLDING CAMPING AND TRAVEL TRAILERS, THE HUB WELD IS INSUFFICIENT TO HOLD THE SPINDLE TO THE AXLE TUBE.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: SPINDLE SEPARATION FROM THE AXLE TUBE CAN OCCUR, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: STARCRAFT IS WORKING WITH LIPPERT TO REPLACE THE AXLES ON THE AFFECTED TRAILERS. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. OWNERS MAY CONTACT STARCRAFT AT 1-260-593-2550..

STARCRAFT HAS FILED CAMPAIGN 06V-460 TO ADDRESS 88 (1) 2007 MODEL YEAR FOLDING CAMPING TRAILERS AND (2) 2007 MODEL YEAR STARCRAFT S/T TRAILERS THAT MAY HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED WITH DEFECTIVE AXLE - SPINDLE WELDS BEFORE THESE AXLES COULD BE INSPECTED BY THE AXLE SUPPLIER, LIPPERT COMPONENTS, FOR THE SUSPECT CONDITION.STARCRAFT HAS REPORTED NO ADDITIONAL FAILURES SINCE THE TWO INCIDENTS REPORTED IN JULY 2006 THAT LAUNCHED THIS INVESTIGATION.ODI WILL MONITOR STARCRAFT RV FOR THE NEXT SIX MONTHS (UNTIL MAY 2007) FOR ANY AXLE - SPINDLE WELD PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS AND WILL INITIATE FURTHER INVESTIGATION IF ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS ARE REPORTED.
