Summary

THE PARKING BRAKE DRUM, IF SUBJECTED TO ABNORMAL HEATING AS A RESULT OF OPERATING THE COACH WITH THE PARKING BRAKE APPLIED OR ONLY PARTIALLY RELEASED, MAY BECOME CRACKED. THE WEAKENED BRAKE DRUM THEN BECOMES SUBJECT TO FAILURE.

THE BRAKE DRUM WILL BE INSPECTED AND, IF NECESSARY, WILL BE REPLACED WITH AN IMPROVED BRAKE DRUM.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRANSIT BUSES EQUIPPED WITH PROPELLER SHAFT BRAKE SYSTEMS.SYSTEM: PARKING BRAKES; BRAKE, DRUM.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: IF FAILURE OCCURS DURING PROP SHAFT ROTATION, THE DRUMWILL DISINTEGRATE, PROPELLING DRUM FRAGMENTS AT HIGH SPEEDS AND POSSIBLYRESULTING IN PASSENGER INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE.
