The conditions at the time were as follows: • Outdoor temperature: approximately 85°F — well within normal operating range • No prior chips, cracks, or visible damage to the glass before the incident • No external impact, projectile, vandalism, or theft attempt of any kind • No vehicles or people were in the immediate area at the time of failure • The only action taken was a normal, gentle closing of the car door This was not a minor crack. The window shattered completely and without warning. Flying glass debris posed a serious safety hazard to myself and anyone nearby. We were fortunate no injuries occurred. Door failed to open from inside. Vehicle was used to travel approximately 6 miles from my home to a store. Upon arrival, the vehicle was placed into park. The door would not open from the inside and I was unable to exit the vehicle. Attempts were made to lock and unlock the door, in addition to pushing on the door with my body while holding the door handle in the open position. Only after placing the car into reverse and back into park did the door open normally. At the next stop, the door opened from the inside, but only after a few seconds and two attempts. The problem has not repeated itself in the 5 to 10 trips since.
