What owners actually said
429 reportsSudden loss of power while driving on highway after a few hours. Car cannot exceed 40 MPH.
I bought Rogue on the 17th of Sept, 2021. 5 days later something in front on passenger side made noise and my steering wheel went to the right. Mechanic said it was rack and pinion that came loose. It was 2 miles after I got off freeway. I could have killed someone! Or myself.

The air bag deactivation sensor would be tripped due to a lightweight item being placed on the passenger seat. This happened a few years ago. I would always place my purse on the passenger seat when driving. The air bag deactivation sensor would be tripped due to a lightweight item being placed on the passenger seat. One day, approximately 4 years ago, I noticed the light warning that it was deactivating would not turn off. After a couple of months of this still being on, I took it into Coggin Nissan at the Avenues of Jacksonville. As I was getting signed in to the service department, they quoted me $150 just to look at the car. I recounted that it is an obvious safety hazard, as the air bags are involved, and there was a recall for the 2008 Rogue for that very issue. I asked for my car back and left. Then called to place a complaint. Nothing came of it, as the car was our second vehicle, and it is rarely driven. The car was purchased late in 2007, as a flagship Rogue. It has 125,000 miles, and should be able to be driven more often, especially when we have family visiting, but it sits unused except for little jaunts in the neighborhood, or if there is no other recourse.

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving approximately 5-10 MPH, she heard an abnormal intermittent banging sound coming from underneath the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the strut assembly needed replaced. The contact stated the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who test drove the vehicle but could not determine the cause of the failure. The mechanic performed a front-end alignment on the vehicle. The contact stated after the front-end alignment was completed, the abnormal banging sounds increased significantly. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the driver’s side front subframe was corroded and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.

The passenger airbag warning light shows the airbag will not engage when a passenger is in the front seat. I just bought this car used from a private party. The photograph below shows when the ignition is turned on and I am sitting in the front passenger seat with my seat belt on. The light never turns off when I’m a passenger or when I have a passenger in the front seat. I am afraid the airbag will not work in a front end collision.

The transmission shudders, jerks, whines, roars loudly. Yes it’s available for inspection. I was driving up a hill with my grand children in the car, and it started shuddering. Didn’t seem to be getting gas at all. The tank was full. Then it started rolling backwards down the hill. Needless to say my grand children were scared to death as I was also. No I haven’t spoken to anyone about the problem, as I don’t know who to talk to? Nobody has looked at it yet. I figured the transmission went, so I haven’t bothere$ with reaching out, until a friend told me hers did the exact same thing. So we looked it up. Yes it seemed to be shuddering before but never lost power and rolled backwards. There were no warning lights, or signs of it quitting. There was no acceleration at all. Just slowly lost power. It was still running but when you push the gas pedal you got nothing. Not even the reving of the motor!03/29

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2009 ROGUE VEHICLES. A SCREW IN THE STEERING GEAR HOUSING COVER MAY LOOSEN OVER TIME AND COULD FALL OUT. AS IT LOOSENS, THE STEERING RESPONSE OF THE VEHICLE MAY BE COMPROMISED BUT THE DRIVER WILL RETAIN STEERING CONTROL.
Consequence & remedy

DEALERS WILL ALSO INSTALL A COVER PLATE TO PREVENT THE SCREW FROM POSSIBLY COMING OUT OF THE STEERING GEAR. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, IOWA, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, MARYLAND, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WASHINGTON D.C., WEST VIRGINIA AND WISCONSIN. THE MATERIAL IN THE NUT USED TO SECURE THE SENSOR-TRANSMITTER OF THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) MAY CORRODE AND POTENTIALLY CRACK IN AREAS WITH HEAVY CONCENTRATIONS OF ROAD SALT. IF THIS OCCURS, THE NUT MAY COME OUT OF THE SENSOR-TRANSMITTER AND THE TPMS LAMP WILL ILLUMINATE.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: IF THE TPMS LAMP IS DISREGARDED AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO BE DRIVEN IN THIS CONDITION, THE TIRE WILL QUICKLY LOSE AIR PRESSURE AT A CONSISTENT RATE RESULTING IN A FLAT TIRE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE TPMS NUT WITH A NEW, MORE ROBUST NUT. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE NOVEMBER 9, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 AND INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.
