2008 Nissan Rogue

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that air bag warning light was flashing and illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the air bag sensor needed to be replaced. The contact called an unknown local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V521000 (Air Bags, Electrical System). The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.

1.Frame bracket has rusted out and dealer only sells whole frame. VERY EXPENSIVE *It is obviously an issue which has not been addressed but has been *noted on internet. (went after market to repair still at $775!) 2. Airbags system light now on and was on recall in the past. Dealer will only look at it for $100. * Noted on internet as a continuous issue for some. 3. Cruise Control on past recall. Has not functioned since dealer fixed in recall. *Still turns on by itself and will not go off unless I turn vehicle off. **Definite safety issue** 4. Parking brake not functioning properly was also on recall. If I use it then it will not release all the way and continues to drag. USELESS. Have had repaired 2 times by mechanic since recall. 5. Transmission replaced on SILENT recall with extended warranty. Had issues from almost the start. WHY would I purchase another Nissan of any type? Vehicle 2008 Nissan Rogue is 13 1/2 years old with only 76,000 miles. No way should it have these issues. It has never been in an accident! I love the vehicle but not these issues. I will be replacing this vehicle in the future with a competitor.

The contact's stepsister called the dealer and was provided an estimate for the repair after being informed that her vehicle was not included in the recall. The contact then called and informed the manufacturer of the recall however, the manufacturer stated that they had no record of the recall. The manufacturer then referred him to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.

This happened a few years ago. I would always place my purse on the passenger seat when driving. The air bag deactivation sensor would be tripped due to a lightweight item being placed on the passenger seat. One day, approximately 4 years ago, I noticed the light warning that it was deactivating would not turn off. After a couple of months of this still being on, I took it into Coggin Nissan at the Avenues of Jacksonville. As I was getting signed in to the service department, they quoted me $150 just to look at the car. I recounted that it is an obvious safety hazard, as the air bags are involved, and there was a recall for the 2008 Rogue for that very issue. I asked for my car back and left. Then called to place a complaint. Nothing came of it, as the car was our second vehicle, and it is rarely driven. The car was purchased late in 2007, as a flagship Rogue. It has 125,000 miles, and should be able to be driven more often, especially when we have family visiting, but it sits unused except for little jaunts in the neighborhood, or if there is no other recourse.

The passenger airbag warning light shows the airbag will not engage when a passenger is in the front seat. I just bought this car used from a private party. The photograph below shows when the ignition is turned on and I am sitting in the front passenger seat with my seat belt on. The light never turns off when I’m a passenger or when I have a passenger in the front seat. I am afraid the airbag will not work in a front end collision.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ROGUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REVERSING, THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK UNCONTROLLABLY UPON DEPRESSION OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO SEVERAL INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO ALL LINKED HER FAILURE TO THE CVT TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO SEVERAL UNKNOWN DEALERS HOWEVER, EACH DEALER ASKED FOR A DIAGNOSTIC FEE WHICH SHE DECLINED EACH TIME. THE MANUFACTURER HAD YET TO BE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ROGUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT PASSENGER OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NOT OPERATE AS NEEDED. DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG REMAINED TURNED OFF WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN. THE CONTACT INITIALLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DON FRANKLIN LEXINGTON NISSAN (3360 RICHMOND RD, LEXINGTON, KY 40509) WHERE THE COMBINATION SENSOR WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. UPON RETURNING THE VEHICLE TO THE ORIGINAL DEALER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A DEFECTIVE OCS SENSOR AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V521000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA FOR ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.*DT*JB
